His Cowboy Heart
Montana Men #6 By: Jennifer Ryan Releasing February 21, 2017 Avon Books
Bound by honor and by love…
That’s a Montana Man Ford Kendrick has often dreamed of the day that Jamie Keller would come home to Montana. After high school, she needed to leave—and he, duty-bound to rescue his family’s ranch, pushed her to go. The Army made Jamie a hero, but Ford still sees the gorgeous, loving woman who lit up his whole world. Every day since she left, Jamie has longed for Ford. One glimpse confirms it: the sexy, dangerous-looking cowboy left a hole in her heart that nothing else can fill. Yet the battle scars she bears—inside and out—won’t let her trust anyone enough to get close. Ford wants to bring Jamie back to the life they dreamed of building. But locked somewhere in her memories is a dark truth that threatens her safety. It’s a battle Ford won’t let her fight alone, not when he’s determined to keep her by his side, now and always…
My heart broke about hundred times while I was reading this story. The torture, the agony, and the pain Jamie Keller lives with, the PTSD she has, was written with such authentic, intense, real way, I felt the raw pain, both physical and mental, of the anguish Jamie lived with. The distress of her soul was enormous, as she seemed lost inside of her terrifying memories.
Ford's presence was the only thing that could pull her out of the living nightmares, just a word or a gentle touch pull her out of the past, and calmed her mind for the moment. As many times as my heart broke for Jamie through the story, as many times it was mended as well because of the love Ford had for her. The devotion, caring and protection Ford give to her was amazing. I absolutely adored Jamie and Ford together. The sweetness, the tenderness, the chemistry, the connection between them was wonderful and delightful. There were so many emotions in scenes with them, it just took my breath away. It was easy to love both Jamie and Ford, to relate to them, to wish them well. They don't dwell on their past mistakes with their relationship, the decisions they made at the young age, but clear the air and move on. Both of their characters proclaimed all that is good, decent, and admirable in human beings, the kindness, caring, gentleness of their souls, and the big hearts to help others, the need for a family, and the support for their friends. The fact that Jamie can't remember the last moments of the battle that changed her life brings another kind of tension and danger to the tale. There are reasons why the army wants her account of the events, and there are reasons why the only other surviving team member is willing to do anything for Jamie to forget it for good. The year of their lives the story shows us, the struggles, the growth, the change, the development of their relationship, and the healing of both body and soul is a touching, gut-wrenching, and beautiful tale. It pulled all the emotions from me as I was reading it, and I couldn't put it down until I was at the end, then reluctant to let them go. Definitely a story that will give you the book-hangover, a tale where your mind lingers for a long time after finishing it ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
