I imagine any parent can identify with Janie and Burke for wanting the best possible outcome for their child. And that is what I liked about the story, the realness, and rawness, the sincere and authentic way to see the near desperation of the parents, the feelings of sinking with the responsibility, yet finding the hope and guts to go for the better chances, even if it means there's a possibility to humiliate yourself in front of the nation. The character development, the lessons they learn about life, and the ability they have of roll with the punches were beautifully done and the center focus of the story. Yes, there was lots of cooking and a little romance, but the survival of the two parents, the child's healing from a devastating loss, the challenges of a special needs parent, all took the attention and focus on my mind while reading. This is a story that it is easy to sink into, and forget about everything around you. I felt for the characters, I sympathized with them. I responded to their pain and worry, I felt like I was in their shoes while reading the story. It is a beautifully done, touching tale of two months in life that will change the future of two families forever, an alluring study of love with its many faces. ~ Five Spoons
