"I'm not dead."

The voice mail rocks deputy sheriff Jax Crockett to his core. A year ago, Paige was murdered by the Moonlight Strangler. Yet his ex-wife just showed up at his ranch—out of options and out of time.

There are only two reasons Paige would come back to Texas with a killer hot on her heels: Jax and their toddler son. Faking her death was the only way to keep them alive.
But now it's Jax who's risking everything to protect his family. The cowboy lawman is also reawakening a powder keg of desire.
A desire that's primed and ready to explode. Giving in will up the ante, igniting the embers of a love they may not live to claim.

A sharp and energetic story filled with fast action, mysteries, attacks, and a new chance on making a future together, if they just stay alive long enough to consider it.
The atmosphere of the story is intense from the start, not only the threats and attacks are making the situation tense, but the return of Paige from death, the anger, disappointment, fear, and resentment, all mix with the relief and joy of seeing her again.
The romance stays more on the back burner on this novel, even though when giving it a chance it boils rabidly and passionately. Paige and Jax have enough on their hands, just trying to survive, to spent much time on talking about relationships, past and present. But the connection between them is obvious, the old feelings flaming again palpable, and the attraction between them is unavoidable.
The action is vivid, violent and vicious. The constant attacks, the life and death situations, all the possible culprits, the lack of clues, and danger to the whole family all makes the suspense poignant and fierce.
This story and the series has captured my mind, and the family has won me over in every story. They hold together, support each other, and don't fold when the world around them starts to crumble, but fight to make it right. I'm enthralled!
