Shelby Lynn Collins left Phoenix fifteen years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a country music singer. Now the two-time Entertainer of the Year is back in Phoenix for a concert that will put the exclamation point on her career. Until she receives an e-mail from a deranged killer, and becomes a target. Even worse, the Detective assigned to the case is the man she left behind. It's bittersweet torture being protected by the only man she's ever loved, and the only man who has the power to break her heart.
Mike Hanson is an ex-Marine turned Homicide Detective, with an ingrained ability to find the bad guys. When a body turns up that points to a connection to the famous singer in town for a concert, he has no choice but to get involved. As the killer get more violent, Mike gets closer to the one woman who makes him feel again. Now he's going to pull in every favor owed, and push himself harder than ever to protect the woman who broke his heart, because he can't imagine a world without her. Even if she leaves him again.
Horrific serial killer/stalker on a crime spree, leaving behind no evidence, just a ghastly scene, that makes even the most seasoned homicide detectives take a step back and try not to breath.
Here we have a thriller that flows out of the pages and is impossible to put down. I have loved this series from the book one, the stories are all so very different, but filled with suspense, action, the brotherhood of the marines, and the sweetest, passionate, forever kind of love. I love how they call upon each other at the time of need, and know they will be there for them. And that all the previous characters get to visit on the new stories, in a natural, fitting way. The villain is insane, mutilating women, and targeting Shelby Lynn. The fear is constant, the tension is high. Time is running out, and desperation to save yet another woman, not to mention Shelby Lynn, is tangible. The collection of the clues, the team work, the puzzle of clues, like little pieces, are scattered around the town, that they are finding, was fascinating and true to life. The action with its intensity gets your heart rate up, and on the edge. The love between Mike and Shelby Lynn is adorable. The hurt from the before is there, but I am so glad they didn't hold on to it too long, or didn't create any unnecessary angst and drama. Their hearts were willing to forgive and forget, and move on. The time there had to rebuild the relationship was well fitted into the tale, amongst all the chaos from crime and murders. Mike and Rebecca together just melted my heart. Big alpha men and kids, just does it for me, I guess. Sickening serial killer, multiple murders, well twined together to create creepy terror and fast action, mixed with a charming cast of characters, deep brotherhood of the marines, and dreamy, dazzling love story, and I was sold ~ Five Spoons
