Welcome back to charming Blue Arrow Lake as temptation sizzles in a glittering new romance from USA Today bestselling author Christie Ridgway...
Blue-collar landscaper Brett Walker has no interest in the Hollywood vacationers flocking to his hometown in the California mountains. But the scarred ex-soldier does have a duty to protect Blue Arrow Lake—and the family ski resort—from a serial burglar. So when he suspects a break-in, he takes action…and ends up catching sinfully tempting down-on-her-luck heiress Angelica Rodriguez. She reminds him of trouble, but he can't deny her a safe place to stay—in one of his cabins. Angelica has plenty of reasons to distrust—losing her money to her father's legal woes being one of them. Getting up close and naughty with rough, tough and sexy Brett tempts her out of her comfort zone and into the arms of a man who's not from her wealthy world. She's after safety and he's chasing justice, but the fire between them might reveal that all they want is each other.
This story is lovely and warm visit to the Blue Arrow Lake during the autumn, when most of the people from 'down the hill' have left, and the mountain community is settling down for the upcoming winter.
The Walker family, or siblings, are a close-knit, fun bunch. I love the way they took care of each other, looked out for each other, and completely get into each other's business. Brett, grouchy like a mountain bear, is known for his serial-dating habits, he has lost his ability to trust, care or love, according to himself. But everything he does speaks the opposite. Angelica, even though grew up privileged financially, has not had it easy. All she ever wanted was a place where she belongs, people she could love and accept her, and would do the same for her. Now, thanks to her father stealing her savings, she is broke, homeless, in a desperate situation. But thanks to Brett, she soon has jobs to support herself, and a place to live. Brett and Angelica are drawn to each other, the attraction is strong, the lust filled thoughts leaving them on a shaky ground. Every time they take a step closer together, find intimacy with each other, or share a moment with each other, Brett backs off, barking. And every time he does that, he comes back with an apology, and even more intimate moment with 'angel face'. Both Angelica and Brett have issues they have to work through from their past, and together they would be perfect for each other, if Brett would just allow it. At the same time, Angelica's best friend, Glory, is going through her own struggle, deciding about her future, and about her feelings towards Kyle. Addition to all the emotional turmoil in the small town, the press starts to hunt Angelica about her father's criminal action, and a mysterious burglary spree in town puts everyone on their toes. The story has lots of interesting elements, characters with charisma and depth, little mystery in town, and lots of living. It's lovely and lively, even though it moves on a bit slowly, it's like visiting old friends in a small town. ~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
