A renegade cop seeks justice…

After his daughter’s brutal murder, former NYPD detective Kadin Tandy opens Wyoming’s Dark Alley Investigations to bring violent criminals to justice. Romance is the last thing on the sexy PI’s troubled mind.

That is, until feisty ad exec Penny Darden asks for his help. Now he’s investigating her estranged boyfriend’s frightening link to a murder.

And despite her relationship status, Penny’s fierce independence and frank flirtation revive Kadin’s damaged heart.

But as an untraceable killer closes in on them, they rely more on each other as the stakes become more harrowing. Not only are their lives at risk, but also their best shot at love…

There were  lots of things happening in this story, both from the mystery side and from the personal, the romance side. The intense beginning of the book pulled me in, and took me for a wild, at times scary, ride.
The mystery is well built, there are several twists in the plot, things that brought lots of tension and scare into the tale. The suspects, as well as cases, kept piling. And deadly confrontations, attempts to kill both Penny and Kadin kept happening. The question of 'who done it', who was behind the murder, and who was covering for it kept going on in my mind, well built suspense, indeed.
The romance was heartbreaking, because both Kadin and Penny had baggage, that they haven't dealt with. Yes, they were attracted to each other, physically, but were they healed enough to have a lasting relationship, and could they ever be?
I loved how well they worked together, trying to solve the cases, how they were there for each other, despite everything else going on between them.
I also liked that there was not an easy solution to their conflict and issues, but they actually worked on them, talked to people about them, faced the fears, uncomfortable confrontations.
There were a couple things I was surprised about, like unprotected sex, and a woman drinking wine while pregnant, just health issues I wanted to point out, no more no less.
Well built thrilling suspense, and a romantic saga filled with drama, passion, and family issues, providing solid entertainment
