Inseverable
A Carolina Beach Novel (Book One) By: Cecy Robson Releasing June 21, 2016 Self-Published ![]()
How can you imagine forever with someone who's leaving everything behind?
Callahan, a former army sniper, wants to make an escape from his past and everything he experienced at war, but most of all, just not feel. Feeling leads to pain and he's suffered enough. When he inherits a house on South Carolina's Kiawah Island, he packs his bags, lured by the peace and seclusion he thinks it will bring. But, Callahan never counted on meeting anyone like Trinity . . . Trinity has always been the cute, and funny one, who most guys overlook in pursuit of her "hot" friends. She became used to being everyone's pal, until the day the young man she was attracted to, was drawn to her in return. He became her first great love, and first crushing heartbreak when she found him in bed with one of her closest friends. To move forward, and to carry out her commitment to helping those in need, Trinity enlists in the Peace Corps, but not before returning to Kiawah for one last memorable summer. She just never imagined it would be so unforgettable. Callahan doesn't want to get close to anyone-let alone Trinity. He finds her perkiness insufferable and her attempts to entice a smile distracting. After all, he's in Kiawah to leave all feelings behind. But when it comes to Trinity, who feels everything, it's hard not to feel something. Neither expected to fall in love. And no one could have predicted how inseverable they'd become.
An astonishing story about growing, growing as a human being, to be the person you are meant to be, growing in a relationship, as you hopelessly, helplessly, and utterly are falling in love. Such a beautiful tale, it took my breath away, and left me in awe, needing a moment to regroup myself.
The story is told in first person, and from both, Trinity and Callahan's point of view. As often with the 1st POV, the angst, the tension is high. You feel the pain, the hurt, the joy, the fear, and you feel it so much more intensely. And there's lots of the pain, that both Trinity and Callahan carry with themselves, though very different kind. Trinity's self esteem was low, because of her past relationship and the way it ended, with betrayal and lies. Callahan, he is in pieces after his experience in the war, as a sniper. Together, they grow, their wounds heal, the feelings get deeper, and love blooms, so fragile, yet there. But it isn't all smooth riding, without any waves. The story, it doesn't only break the heart, it felt like it shattered the soul, and then brought it back again, anew, better, healed, stronger. There are moments of such deep pain, sorrow, hurt, yet they are balanced with joy, glee, lust, and passion. There's heat, that makes you blush, and moments that got a deep belly laugh out of me. Laugh that just continued on and on, because Trinity, her mother, and really Sean as well, all provide some comic relief at times. I loved the respect the author paid to the servicemen and women, the pain and wounds they carry after their experiences, are deep, and often overlooked. I loved how the necessary care for them, and their needs, were highlighted in the story. The bonding between Callahan and Trinity's father was beautiful, as two men, who has faced the unthinkable, helped each other heal, deal with the past, and be whole again. This is a story, that no two people will read the same tale, one will see it as an incredibly hot and sexy love story, that it is. Other, will see it as the story of a wounded soldier, the healing process that is needed after all the pain and death of a war. There's the fun summer on the beach, lifeguards, the human interactions, the poor boy falling in love with the rich girl in the south, and the consequences of that, the reactions of their families. There's so much in this story, that it truly filled my mind, my heart, did good for my soul. ~ Five Spoons
Prologue
Callahan Three days. That’s all I have left until this shit ends. Three days shouldn’t feel like forever, not compared to the eight years I’ve bled to the Army. Thing is, good men have been killed in less time. In as quick as a blink, a squeeze of a trigger, or a small breath right before a grenade blows is all the time it takes to shove someone right out of life and well into death. That’s what makes three days as long as it is. Three days is plenty of time to die. My eyes tear when the wind picks up and shoots grime through the small hole of my lookout point. This blown out piece of cinderblock is only big enough to allow me a view of the street below, but not so small I don’t get smacked in the face with more filth. The tarp flaps above me as I spit out another layer of the dirt-sand mix spackling my teeth. Christ Almighty, I need a swig of the water resting near my elbow. But my thirst, like everything else has to wait. I have a job to do. I adjust my hips against the cracked cement of my bed, bathroom, and home all rolled into one, thankful that the agonizing ache stretching over the lower half of my body has settled into a now familiar numbness. Out of all the points I’d scouted, and all the accumulated years spent in this position, I should be used to it. And in a strange way, it should almost be home. Yet nothing ever has been home. But in three days, maybe something finally will be . . . I shove my thoughts away and breathe as my fellow Rangers stalk along the street. It’s then I see them, a mother and daughter walking straight toward my team. Less than one city block separates them from the men counting on me to keep them alive. The hell? How did they get past the other sniper unreported? Rogers is new on watch. But the quick paces these two are taking should have clued him in that something’s up. I train my scope on their faces; their expressions are blank, unreadable. ‘Cept that’s not what keeps my attention. The little girl can’t be more than five. So why the fuck isn’t her mother holding her hand? I lift my radio and bark a warning, dropping it beside me as I lock my scope dead center on the woman’s head. The radio crackles and Modreski chimes in, yelling at his team to hold their positions. He asks me what my plan is, knowing if something’s caused the short-hairs on my neck to rise, he and the boys damn well need to listen. But I don’t hear him, with a breath and a squeeze of the trigger, I leave a kid without a mother. Just beneath the sleeve of her abayah―the dress completely covering her body―I see it, a detonator that would trigger the explosives likely strapped to her chest. A few Rangers I know―Simons and Boreman, rush forward. I start to mutter a curse, pissed at her for making me shoot her in front of her kid. But the curse lodges in my throat when I see the kid isn’t looking at her mother lying next to her dead. She’s watching my advancing team as she lifts the detonator clasped tight in her hand. ![]()

A SAFE PLACE
Alexi Jordan moves to her family's crumbling Florida estate to start over. The house needs work, but that's exactly what she's looking for to get her life back on track after a disastrous marriage and an exhausting career. But after a series of unsettling phone calls and someone tampering with her lights, Alexi begins to fear that her home is far from a refuge. Her neighbor, Rex Morrow, insists on protecting Alexi. She can't deny that Rex is strong and sheltering, but the feelings she begins to develop for him are just as frightening as the series of scary events in her home. As the danger increases, Alexi must decide who poses the greater risk—her mysterious stalker, or the man who threatens to steal her heart… FREE BONUS STORY INCLUDED IN THIS VOLUME! Sheltered in His Arms by USA TODAY bestselling author Tara Taylor Quinn Ten years after doing the unforgivable and leaving Shelter Valley, Sam Montford returns home. But forgiveness proves hard to find…particularly with the one woman he loved the most and hurt the deepest: his ex-wife, Cassie Tate.
Strangers in Paradise takes place in the area that’s been my home my entire life—with all the good and the bad that come with living in such a paradise! I do love Miami, for all of her beauty, though I admit, of course, we have our problems. We’ve grown too big for our britches in my lifetime; we have crime, and we have craziness. But, still, there’s nothing like a sunset in the western sky, a sunrise, the Deco insanity of Miami Beach, and the beauty to be found in the coral shelves off our coastline. I am a diver—maybe that’s half the reason I love my area so much!
We’re entirely crazy; head down to Key West and you can hear a story about a man who married and lived with a beloved corpse for seven years. Look back a decade, maybe, and you can find a newspaper headline reading “Electric Chair Deemed Dangerous!” Yes, crazy. I see us as the New York City of this generation—we have people pouring in from the islands, South America, and beyond. You can hear just about any language . . . lol! Sometimes, even English! But, we are a great place where we are accustomed to embracing everyone, and that’s what I find most important as we move forward. This doesn’t mean it’s a giant love-in here. We still have our troubles with backgrounds and customs and so on—but we know that acceptance is what we need to grow, and we’re always trying to take those steps forward. I grew up here, and so, of course, I remember being a child and spying on some of the giant old Southern estates we have, even this far South! Hey, Miami might be comparatively new, but sad to say, the American army was down here battling in the Seminole Wars early on in the nineteenth century and there was a fort—Ft. Dallas—on the Miami River hosting officers during the Civil War. It can be hot—but, hey! We’re rarely into the nineties in summer while a lot of other places are hitting the 100 mark. Yes, we’re humid. Okay, you probably will sweat here! But, come on down. The diving is great. Beaches are wonderful. We’re a hop, skip, and a jump from the Florida Keys—and they truly are fabulous. A quick ride along the Tamiami Trail, and you’re in the Everglades. We even have a Venetian palace—Vizcaya! Museums and zoos and theater and art. And, of course, the sun. The golden sun, drenching us each day, and leaving us at night with an extraordinary palette of color. We all see something different in the world around us. But . . . . To me, yes . . . South Florida can truly be a bit of Paradise! —Heather ![]()

When the artist Marianne Glass falls to her death, everyone insists it was a tragic accident. Yet Rowan Winter, once her closest friend, suspects there is more to the story. Ever since she was young, Marianne had paralyzing vertigo. She would never have gone so close to the roof's edge.
Marianne -- and the whole Glass family -- once meant everything to Rowan. For a teenage girl, motherless with a much-absent father, this lively, intellectual household represented a world of glamour and opportunity. But since their estrangement, Rowan knows only what the papers reported about Marianne's life: her swift ascent in the London art world, her much-scrutinized romance with her gallerist. If she wants to discover the truth about her death, Rowan needs to know more. Was Marianne in distress? In danger? And so she begins to seek clues -- in Marianne's latest work, her closest relationships, and her new friendship with an iconoclastic fellow artist. But the deeper Rowan goes, the more sinister everything seems. And a secret in the past only she knows makes her worry about her own fate . .
Murders, manipulations, chaos in the family and art world. Nothing is, what it seems, and no one should be trusted, as they are.
A suspense story that turned out to be rather different than I expected, twists in the story, that were not possible to predict. A plot that is not possible to say much of, without giving it away. The writing of the story is beautiful, very English (naturally), and at times nearly poetic in nature. It flows nicely, sounds beautiful, but in a suspense story, can muddy the facts, the clues, and evidence, as the reader is building beautiful pictures in their mind. Yes, my mind was wondering quite a bit while reading this novel. There's a lot of characters. I wouldn't say they were difficult to keep track of, but at the beginning, as everyone is introduced, and the pieces of the puzzles are put into the table, it takes time with a big cast and crew, to get to the point of the matter, and built up the tension, the intensity, that I love, in a great suspense. The last fifth of the book blew me away. It left me pondering, and I am still not sure, what to think about it. But an excellent crescendo, with startling twists. As a huge romantic suspense fan, this wasn't quite my cup of tea, so to say, but that doesn't take anything away from the artfully crafted tale, that surely will make me wonder for a while. ~ Three Spoons ![]()

BIRTHRIGHT by Marie Johnston is the first book in her newest series, Pale Moonlight. Shifter Porter Denlan doesn’t know why the world around him is falling to pieces, but he knows one female whose birthright can make things right again. Maggie Miller was raised as a human but always knew she was “different.” When sexy Porter comes into her life, claiming he’s finally found the one who can help him, she doesn’t know what to believe. Unfortunately, Declan wasn’t the only one searching for her. If you’re a fan of thrilling, sexy supernatural romance, you’ll want to add this book to your collection.
Porter Denlan’s home is in turmoil, his pack lives in fear of their cruel leader, but he knows one female whose birthright can govern them without question. Unfortunately, his nemesis is also searching for her—and it isn’t to bring her back to the home she was taken from. Raised as a human, Maggie Miller wishes she could connect with her species. But when a sexy carpenter comes into her work making outrageous claims about her destiny, she blows him off—despite her intense attraction toward the rugged male. Hours after she watched his admirable backside walk out, three brutes attack her. Unable to stay away from her, Porter’s jumps to her aid; they barely escape. On the run, they learn what Maggie’s birthright truly is—and how it could tear them apart.
The throbbing in her skull urged her to slow down, keep her heartbeat from creating the cacophony behind her eyes.
She couldn’t; decreasing her speed meant opening a window of opportunity for Seamus. She was naïve about her world, but not enough to think the explosion had decimated him, or even better, blew his cruel face off. The van took the brunt of it, and Seamus was devious enough to escape the human’s concern over his injuries, or his resurrection from sure death. ![]() Marie Johnston lives in the upper-Midwest with her husband, four kids, and an old cat. Can Ellie put her life in Gil's hands? Or will his secrets get them both killed?
Raylan was smart enough to whisper. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m going to call Agent Trent.” The last thing she needed was a Federal Agent in her house where they might find a trace of her past, but she had no choice. Now was now. She wasn’t a criminal. She was a mother who needed protection for her son. “Why? And why did you turn off the light?” Raylan’s soft voice shook her from her momentary hesitation. She forced a smile down at her son. “We’re going to play a game. Like hide and seek, and I want Agent Trent to play with us, too.” She grabbed her cell and ushered Raylan through the kitchen. “Mochab, come.” With a low growl rumbling with the thunder, the dog followed them. They passed the living room and moved into her bedroom, where she locked them both in the bathroom, doing her best to keep her fear hidden from her boy. He’d had enough for one day. Hell, they both had. “Climb into the tub.” She flipped open her phone and searched for Gil’s number, and hit dial. Mochab sat down, staring at the door. Raylan picked up on her fear. “There’s no water, but then this isn’t hide and seek, either. Because you’re supposed to count, not hide with me.” Too perceptive. “What’s the matter?” She hugged him to her. “I’m afraid of the storm, and I want Agent Gil to come.” The lie flowed from her mouth. “Hello? Agent Trent, I mean, Gil, yes, this is Ellie Westfall. I thought I saw a man in the yard.” ![]()

A Summer to Remember
Tallgrass #6 By: Marilyn Pappano Releasing June 28, 2016 Forever ![]()
FIRST LOVE NEVER FADES . . .
It's been a long time since widow Fia Thomas felt the spark of physical attraction. But from the moment she meets Elliot Ross one stormy night, she yearns for a fresh start, for him to make her feel whole and well again. With his broad shoulders and a warm smile crinkling his dark eyes, he could finally offer her the solace she's been seeking. And she's willing to give him anything in return . . . except a promise that could break his heart. Now that Elliot is out of the Army, he's looking for a place to call home. Tallgrass was just a stop to stretch his legs, yet one look at Fia halts him in his tracks. In her sweet, sassy company, he finds the soul mate he never thought he'd have. But Fia is holding something back-something that keeps her from making any plans. Elliot's new mission: gain Fia's trust...and convince her that summer's end can mean a new beginning.
“Go on. Sing more.”
He did, and she listened with her eyes half closed. The tones were sweet, the emotion fierce, the quality hands-down better than the singer on the radio. Everything she learned about Elliot was adding up to an extraordinary man. While she remained plain, average Fia. With “issues.” “Beautiful,” she responded when the song ended. At about the same time, he turned into her driveway. He came around and held hands with her to the stoop and up the steps, where he propped open the storm door with his boot while she unlocked the door. She set her purse on the floor inside the door, then faced him. “I’m not going to invite you inside because you’ve got to get up early.” “Darn.” He moved a step closer, fitted his hands to her waist, and leaned toward her. She met him in the kiss, her mouth parting, her hands sliding around to the back of his neck, combing through his silky hair. Dear Lord, she’d forgotten how good a kiss could be. She nibbled at his lip, pausing only when his tongue thrust between her teeth, invading, exploring, rousing a long-unsatisfied need deep inside. Moving intuitively, her hands glided over soft cotton that covered the lean muscles along his spine. When they reached the rougher texture of jeans and leather belt, the tips tingled, like the briefest touch of a live wire, singeing and searing and sparking pleasure through her body. When she stroked a few inches lower to slide her palm over his erection, his breath caught, and so did hers. It had been so very long . . .would be so very easy . . . back up one step, don’t let go, take him to the bedroom or, better, the couch, strip off their clothes . . .So easy. So perfect. So wrong. Even the thought of that last word was wrong. It jangled in the midst of nerves humming with need. It pulled her out of the haze of what she could do, of the incredible satisfaction she could have, and brought back all the ugly uncertainty of her life. Elliot might be Prince Charming, but she was no princess, and her life was no simple, sweet fairy tale with a happily ever after. Tears seeped into her eyes—disappointment, weariness—and she opened her eyes to blink them away. Apparently sensing the change in her, Elliot ended the kiss with another tiny, sweeter kiss, then clasped her hands in his. For a long time, he studied her face with an intensity that rippled along her skin, then he took a step back, putting breathing room between them. When he spoke, he sounded as if he’d done a long hump with a heavy ruck on a hot day. “You never did tell me.” “What?” “Is Fia short for something?” “You never did ask.” She didn’t sound much better. “Sofia.” He laid his palm gently against her cheek, repeated her name, then backed away even farther. “Thank you, Sofia.” “For what?” “Being in that parking lot Friday night. For liking me and my dog. For kissing like—” Breaking off, he grinned and shook his head. “Damn.” “It takes two.” His grin strengthened, then slowly faded. “Good night.” Leaning against the door jamb, she watched him go to his truck, get in, and drive away with a final wave. Sighing deeply, she stepped inside the house, closed and locked the door, and stumbled, hitting the floor with a solid thud. ![]()

A Texas Ranger with everything to lose…
Going undercover to keep the former wife of a Texas crime boss alive is risky business for Texas Ranger Bryce Johnson. Kylie Scott may have evidence that could put her ex-husband's family away forever. If she lives long enough to testify. For five years, Kylie managed to stay off the mob's radar. With her cover blown, the former model is forced to flee the close-knit community that had embraced her. On the run again—this time with the seductive lawman who's risking his career to protect her—Kylie battles her powerful desire for Bryce. If they survive, do they stand a snowball's chance at a future together?
Mafia families, teen bride, death and destruction - the prologue gets the story into a fast and fiery start, with gun blazing and blood on the street. The tone, the speed, and the action never cease. It is constant, fatal, and riveting.
Bryce, with his sun burned back, eye glasses, and excitement of the first undercover mission, is a complete hunk. His kindness, considerate, gentlemanly, personality made me sigh. He is a person to be admired, his easygoing nature, his loyalty, the way he got along with everyone, just made him even more likable. Kylie had finally found home. That is all her heart had wanted, and now that it is hers, her past was back in the present, and threaten to take it all away. My heart went out for her, she didn't ask for pity or sympathy, she was a true survivor, not a victim, but you still wanted to take care of her, and make the world a little bit easier for her to live in. Their gravitation towards each other, was so natural. Like they had always known each other, being there for each other, and supported each other. There's so many moments in the story, between Kylie and Bryce, that their allure, adoration for each other is obvious, palpable, and so tender. The absolutely adorable couple, who obviously were meant to be together, are in the middle of a nasty mafia family dispute. The guns are blazing, the danger is ceaseless. Death and torture are nothing to those after them, and only a miracle, or a ranger, can save them from the situation they are in. Raging tale, filled with action, cutthroat moments, and fiery battles. ~ Four Spoons

DUTY, DESIRE AND WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE
As a Texas Ranger, it was Jesse Ryder's duty to protect her. As a man, it was all he could do to avoid the temptation of Avery Travis. The Snake Eyes Killer was on Avery's trail, but the independent deputy didn't want Jesse's help. And he couldn't blame her; he had walked away from her the night she'd offered him everything. Avery knew Jesse would always think of her as his best friend's little sister. However, she was fully capable of taking care of herself…and knowing what and who she wanted. Their lives might be in jeopardy, but the true tragedy would be to never have one more chance with the sexy Ranger.
Chilling, breathtaking action, mixed with the culprits evil insanity, and horrid torture. Not only is the matters the hunter is using horrible, but the after effects so frightful, I couldn't help but admire the hero and heroine, to be able to go on, and keep on after him.
The suspense, action, the danger, deaths, and the near impossible task Avery and Jesse are facing, left me gasping. The horror, the scare is palpable, and constantly present. There's not a moment you could relax, and forget what could be happening any moment. The Snake Eye Killer's breath is on them, his eyes seem to be everywhere, his reach unstoppable. His malice grim and ghastly, ways to torture unthinkable, yet creative. The history between Jesse and Avery isn't easy. The pain of past actions, the words said, and left unsaid, have made a wall in-between their easy friendship. They fit so perfectly together, work seamlessly as a team together, the chemistry is strong, positive, and supportive. They know each other better than themselves, the kicks, the irks, the pleasures. But the hurt and anger is standing there, like a third person in the room, and hindering them to open up, honestly face the past, and move on from it. And as they fight against the madman, maybe the opportunity to make it all good again, will never rise. It took me a moment to get into the rhythm of the story in the beginning, but after that, I felt like I held my breath in horrid fear through the tale. The danger is steadily there. There's no escape, no running from it. The angst and pain lingering around Jesse and Avery takes the turmoil into another level, as well. You want them to find each other again, romantically, but mostly you just hope they stay alive for the next scene. Both Jesse and Avery are easy to like, relate to. They are loyal, honorable, steadfast, and kind. I loved Avery's family's reaction to them as a couple, and I was cheering for them both professionally and personally, to end up as champions. From distressing and harrowing, dark moments of danger and fear, nail biting action and moments of sure death, to sweet, tender, fragile romance, that will fill your heart and make you smile. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side ![]()
Return to Haven Point, where New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne proves there's no sweeter place to fall in love
Protecting the streets of Haven Point isn't just a job for police officer Wyn Bailey, it's a family tradition. But lately she's found herself wanting more, especially from her boss—and overprotective brother's best friend—sexy chief of police, Cade Emmett. The only problem is getting Cade to view her as more than just a little sister. Cade's hands-off approach with Wyn isn't from lack of attraction. But his complicated past has forced him to conceal his desire. When Wyn is harmed in the line of duty, Cade realizes the depth of his feelings, but can he let his guard down long enough to embrace the love he secretly craves?
Heartfelt, honest, and raw story, that pulled me in from the first moment, until I was completely lost in it. The story touched every emotion, from tears, to smile, sigh, and swoon, until I was laughing out loud. The small town spirit, the support and love they offer to each other, just touched me to the core. The family, with all the drama and trouble, yet loving and supporting when needed. And the police force, the lives of the small town officers, the duties, trouble, danger, and service they provide. Really, a tribute to the force, that so willingly puts themselves in danger, so we would be safe.
I admit, the first 8% of the book, I was a sobbing mess. The danger and angst, the fear and unthinkable possibilities, had on the edge, holding my breath. The ambience the author has created is compelling. You want to be one of them, you want to share the danger, drama, troubles, and mundane tasks. Wyn and Cade, they have the connection, they have the chemistry, they are attracted to each other, and the feelings they have, are palpable. But also forbidden. Something they know they can't act upon, something to be hidden. My heart went out to them, the struggles were tough, the denials hurtful. The pain they both still carry for losing her dad, and his mentor, was raw and constant. So much healing still needed to take place. Characters you love, admire, and respect. Events that take you from lighthearted moment, to heart wrenching, to one filled with danger. I loved the flow in the tale, and how completely immersed I was in it (even though, my sunburn, skin might disagree :D) Marvelous tale, highly recommended! ~ Five Spoons
The Hang Up
First Impressions #2 By: Tawna Fenske Releasing June 13, 2016 Entangled Lovestruck ![]()
PR specialist Miriam Ashley makes her living cleaning up bad boys. Mountain climber-turned-CEO Jason Sanders should be an easy fix. And with a nephew to care for, he’s motivated. The problem? Every time she tries to help Jason get his head in the boardroom, they end up in the bedroom.
What the hell is she thinking? He’s the definition of off-limits. Not just because he’s a client—he spends his free time risking his life mountain climbing. The same thing that got her father killed. She’s not going to open her heart to a guy who could disappear at the drop of a…well, she’d rather not finish that thought. She needs to leave complicated alone, but every time she sees Jason, something tells her it’s her who might fall…
Oh, the glee and giggles, banter and jeer, joy and zeal, I enjoyed every moment of this very entertaining story, that embrace the invigorating outdoor adventures, living life to the fullest for every minute, and giving love and passion a chance and room in the swamped lives we live, filled with responsibility and hectic schedules.
Jason is such a stand up guy, he takes his responsibilities seriously. But when you work hard, you play hard, and for Jason it means outdoor adventures, and taking care of his family. Miriam never quite got over her father's death, or even her parents' divorce. She's a city girl all the way, loves to cook, and the biggest adventure she wants to take, is to wear high heals. They are completely opposite, but slowly they take place in each other's life. The exploits they have, are lively and entertaining. The lessons on table manners is unforgettable, the double talk on kayak introduction hilarious. Passion, connection or chemistry is not the problem they have. They like each other, they fit into each other's lives, with their friends and family, they respect each other, and their talents, but they have no time for romance, the pain, the possible failure, and rejection, their minds and hearts are not ready to take that leap. I enjoyed the awakening moments they had, as their got their lives, and priorities, lined. They had to grow, develop, and deal with their inner demons, until they were ready and able to admit their shortcomings, and take the leap for love. Perfect reading material for those warm, long, summer evenings, if you need a smile, or some great belly laughs ~ Four Spoons
“Tell you what,” he said. “You give me a few pointers on polish and professionalism, and I’ll give you free outdoor adventure tours.”
“Outdoor adventure?” She wasn’t surprised to hear that the words emerging from her mouth had the same intonation she’d use if she said “Pap smear” or “Ebola.” “Thanks, but no thanks,” she said, flipping open her laptop. “But actually, I can show you some of my favorite fashion websites if you want to get some ideas for professional attire and—” “Wait, why don’t you want an outdoor adventure?” Miriam stared at him and wondered whether to offer the real story or the one that seemed most obvious. “I’m a city girl through and through, in case you hadn’t noticed,” she said, settling for the surface story. “Right, but you’re a city girl who’s managing the account for the nation’s second-largest outdoor gear retailer,” he pointed out. “Don’t you think you should be at least a little familiar with our products?” “I am familiar with your products,” she said. “I did intensive market research using the reports from—” “No, no, no,” Jason interrupted. “Reports aren’t the same as actually experiencing it. When was the last time you played outside?” Miriam tamped down the panic that threatened to bubble its way up from her gut. It wasn’t his fault. He couldn’t possibly know she’d spent the last year avoiding all things outdoorsy. Especially men with an adrenaline habit. She swallowed hard and forced herself to answer his question. “I went outside on Saturday,” she said. “I walked out to get the mail.” Jason shook his head and looked at her like she’d lost her mind. “Come on, I’ll start you off easy. Maybe some spelunking or something.” “I don’t know what spelunking is, but unless it’s a drink, a sex act, or a fashion designer, I’m not interested.” He cocked his head to the side. “Wait, so you would be interested if spelunking was a sex act?” “I was being glib,” she said, tossing her hair and making note of the eagerness in his expression. “Whatever it is, I’m guessing it’s outside my comfort zone.” “Exactly why you should do it.” He grinned again. “Spelunking is cave exploration. I have all the gear, and there’s a really amazing cave I know of just a couple hours away. Come on, it’ll be fun.” “I think you and I have very different definitions of fun.” “I doubt that,” he said. His voice was low and molten, or maybe that’s just how Miriam heard it. Either way, it sent a shiver down her spine. ![]()

The Champion of Barésh
Star World Frontier #1 By: Susan Grant Releasing May 26, 2016 ![]()
RITA-winner Susan Grant is back with an all-new, stand-alone tale of two improbable lovers, their daring secret, and the gamble destined to alter the course of their worlds forever!
She was playing with fire... Jemm Aves battles to keep her dreams alive on a dead-end world. Working for the mines by day, she’s a successful bajha player at night, disguised as a male to be allowed to compete in the colony’s dangerous underworld where club owners will go to extremes to retain the best players. Every win puts her one small step closer to her goal: saving enough to escape Barésh with her family. When a nobleman from one of the galaxy’s elite families recruits her to be a star player for his team, it's because he doesn't know her secret. Her ruse proves to be her most perilous game yet when it puts both their lives—and her heart—at risk. Prince Charming he was not... Prince Klark is eager to reverse his reputation as the black sheep of the Vedla clan, a family as famous for its wealth and power as it is for being a bastion of male-dominated tradition. If his bajha team can win the galactic title it would go a long way toward restoring the family honor that his misdeeds tarnished. He travels to Barésh to track down an amateur who’s risen to the top of the seedy world of street bajha, offering the commoner a chance of a lifetime: a way off that reeking space rock for good. But his new player comes with a scandalous secret that turns his plans and his beliefs upside down. He sets out to win a very different prize—his champion’s reluctant heart.
“Don’t say nothing,” Nico warned. “Nothing at all.”
Jemm’s pulse boomed like the detonations of ore-charges. She let her hair spill forward to camouflage her face from the off-worlders. The crunch of several pairs of boots on grit came from only about twenty steps away. “Nico, glad to find you still here.” Even without a view of the voice’s owner, she knew that lovely brogue belonged to the Vash. “I’m looking for Sea Kestrel.” Her timepiece slid around her wrist she dragged her palms down Nico’s sweater and pretended to nuzzle the side of his neck. “Cut me loose before they get too close,” she whispered. “Make it believable, or we’re done for.” He nodded. “Run along now, darlin’! I’ve got business to attend to.” He moved her backward and gave her a pat on the bottom for good measure. She used a flirtatious hair toss to keep her face hidden before she turned her back to the off-worlders and sashayed off, hoping they would act like men and fix their attention on her swaying rear-end instead of the fact they had not gotten a good look at her. She felt their gazes following her all the way to where she disappeared around the corner a half block away. She stopped there, her blood roaring in her ears. Craggin’ crat. “Who was that?” she heard Skeet ask in an admiring tone. “My girlfriend, Jemm. She’s a good lass, she is.” Jemm? Was he crazy? “It takes some truth to make a lie believable,” went the saying. Her brother had taken that advice to heart. “Kes has already gone home, fellas.” Nico herded Sir Vedla and the two pro players back to Narrow Margin’s back entrance. A group of drunken miners stumbled past behind Jemm, their loud conversation making it impossible to hear what was being said as the Vash stopped to hand something to Nico. Then goodbyes were said. But before Sir Vedla made it back inside the club a sex server stopped him. Her hands were all over him as she tried to separate him from his companions. Despite the weak light, the contrast between this aristocrat from the stars and the thin, dirty, scantily dressed young woman curling around him like oily hallucivape smoke was obvious. Breathless, Nico careened around the corner. “Crag me. That was close,” he said. “Too close.” Jemm peeked around the corner again. Despite how far the sex worker was beneath Sir Vedla’s lofty station, he refused her advances without visible disgust or disrespect. It took two tries before he was able to disentangle himself from her and disappear with his players inside, leaving the girl to gaze after him in awe. Then it hit Jemm that she was standing there doing exactly the same thing. ![]()

Pure Torture
Oblivion on Tour #3 By: Tania Sparks Releasing July 29, 2016 Self-Published
Cody’s the sexy drummer extraordinaire of the hard rock band Oblivion.
Kitty’s the little sister of one of Cody’s band mates and she’s had a secret crush on him for years. When the band are back home for a few days, the chemistry between them is both unexpected and undeniably off-the-charts. She quickly realizes that the prospect of having what she’s always fantasized about is a very real possibility. He quickly realizes that although he feels this mind-blowing attraction towards her, she’s the little sister of one of his band mates - he would get his ass kicked from here to hell if he ever laid a finger on her! But can Kitty convince him? After all, no one else needs to know, a one-time hook-up might suit both of them…or could it ruin everything?
We’re all sitting around, drinking our beers. I’m slouched down on one of the armchairs that I’ve claimed as my own. I’m still twirling my drumsticks and tapping away on my legs and the surrounding furniture. I’m a couple or three beers in when I hear the door to the suite open. I glance across to see Nikki, our rhythm guitarist and his girl Trixie strolling in jovially, Nikki’s arm is draped over her shoulder and she’s securely tucked into his side.
I lift my head and somberly greet them, “Hey.” Nikki bobs his head in acknowledgement and Trixie waves her hand to say hi. I expect them to close the door but instead the most stunning girl on the fucking planet glides in behind them. She has smooth jet black hair that flows down her back and it’s so long it reaches her ass. She’s tall, probably almost as tall as me and her body rocks. She’s slim, but has nicely rounded hips and amazing tits. Her emerald green eyes are sparkling boldly as she scans the room confidently. I immediately jump up from my chair, drop my drumsticks to the floor and feel an undeniable rousing in my pants. Hell, maybe my day won’t be so bad after all. I feel better already! The other guys all stand up too. Fuck off cock-suckers, she’s mine. I take a step forward as the raven haired beauty suddenly shrieks in an oddly familiar voice, “Oh my god, hi guys, I’ve missed y’all so much!” Fuck, fuck, fuck! My muddled brain suddenly clicks and makes the connection as I realize that the hottie that has my body vibrating like a god-damned amplifier is Kitty, Nikki’s little sister. Holy Crap! Somebody turns the music down and everyone starts walking towards Kitty. My heart is beating so damned loud that I’m sure the whole room can hear it. What the hell happened to Nikki’s little sister? I remember her as being a sweet little girl that we used to tease and let hang around the band. She’d bring us beers and dote over all of us, but especially me. Sure, she’s always been pretty and downright cute, but I’ve never thought of her as the unmistakable sex kitten she is now. She’s definitely grown up and she’s a complete and utter babe. She’s the perfect embodiment of everything I find totally irresistible in a chick. I want! Shit, maybe I’ve had more to drink than I thought, but I definitely shouldn’t be thinking this way about Nikki’s little sister and I don’t know how to handle these sudden irrefutable cravings. My hand twitches and strums anxiously on my leg as the adrenaline courses through me and makes me want to jump around like a fuckin’ crazy person. ![]()
Tania Sparks is a romantic at heart who genuinely believes in true love and soul mates. She met her husband while still at school, she was sixteen, he was seventeen. They are high school sweethearts who more than twenty five years later are still very much in love and are happily married with two beautiful daughters.
Tania does have a full time job, but in her spare minutes enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and reading. She's an avid reader who tends to chomp through a large volume of books, mainly in the romance genre. Her other major 'hobby' is writing steamy rock star erotic romances! In 2014, after finding herself constantly being inspired by numerous romance novels, she decided to try her hand at writing. After penning her first scene she discovered that she enjoyed it immensely and so resolved to continue with the rest of the story that was swirling in her imagination. That story resulted in her first novel, Heaven Sent which is the first book in her Oblivion on Tour Series. This was soon followed by Bolt From The Blue and Pure Torture. Each book in the series is a stand-alone story which follows a different band member from a hard rock group called Oblivion - and of course the feisty ladies that steal their hearts! The other books in the series are at various stages of completion. Now-a-days Tania finds it very difficult to control her imagination and swears that her rock stars are constantly chanting their stories in her head. She can't wait to share them with you.. This could be her toughest assignment yet
Having witnessed her father's death in a race-car crash, Joanna Dace can't imagine getting close to anyone who risks his life for sport. But she can write about them. Keeping her professional distance lets her get inside anyone's head without letting that person into her heart. Until she meets her latest subject--professional bull rider Tom Cameron. Tom has a quiet cowboy charm and a darkness beneath his rugged surface. It's difficult to remember all the reasons she should keep her distance, but Jo has to try...unless it's already too late.
When the toughest bull rider finds the right woman, his tender, caring side will make us all swoon.
One of the things I like about the Heartwarming Stories from Harlequin is that they are, well, heartwarming. They are stories that make you smile, sigh, swoon, and fall in love with the characters. This story is all that, as well. I got so immersed in the story, I lost the track of time completely. And this story is much more than 'just' a romance, it has an insight to the bull riding competition, to the brotherhood of the riders and fighter (NOT the same thing, I learned), it also has ranch life, city living, and those two worlds colliding. It has lessons about family, responsibility, and ranching. I loved when they all spent time on the ranch together, working hard, and supporting each other. The brothers, Luke and Tom has a bond like only most twins have. But their personalities are completely opposite. The author gives a look into their lives, the struggles and joys of the professionals in the bull riding circles. The respect they have for their father and his wife, the admiration, is commendable, and even though they are just humans, with their faults and weaknesses, they always achieved to do their best, and help others around to the best of their abilities. Tom and Joanna immediately form a connection that takes others by surprise. Tom opens up to her, like to no one before, and soon they form a friendship, with a simmering attraction well hidden from each other. The story takes over the whole season, several months. Tom and Joanna have time to get to know each other, learn to trust each other, get to be close. And as Tom asked her to help him with a secret he has been hiding from everyone else for a couple of years, the relationship gets into yet another level and depth. Warm and honest story, with the joys, triumphs, and success of life, as well as the pain, suffering, and the moments of failure. But on no matter they face in life, the characters have family and friends who stand by them, support them, and guide them to the right direction. A great tribute to the bull riders, their families, and to the country living. ~ Four Spoons
Happy Ever After in Christmas
Christmas, Colorado #7 By: Debbie Mason Releasing June 28, 2016 Forever ![]()
It's beginning to look a lot like love . . .
As her thirtieth birthday approaches, Deputy Jill Flaherty decides it's time to live a little. When she walks into Sawyer Anderson's bar in her sexiest dress, she's not thinking that he's her brother's best friend or about the many women he dated during his years as a pro hockey player. All she's thinking is that it's finally time to confess to her longtime crush how she truly feels. Sawyer is done being a player on and off the ice. Yet no one in the small town of Christmas seems to believe he's ready to settle down, not Jill, and certainly not Jack, who is determined to keep Sawyer from breaking his little sister's heart. But as Sawyer and Jill's relationship heats up, can he prove that he's her happy ever after?
Sawyer smiled that slow easy smile of his. Even after last night, it still managed to cause Jill’s toes to curl like it always did. "So, how many more weeks do you have to put in before Gage lets you off for good behavior?"
"One." There was a part of her that would miss coming to the nursing home every day, but she could use the extra sleep. Sawyer glanced at the older men and women as they wandered off to hunt for the knife. He rubbed his hand over his chiseled jaw and manly stubble. "Why exactly do you have them looking for a knife?" "Murder mystery game. It keeps them active. Makes them use their brains." Relaxing now that Mrs. Sharp was focused on the hunt, Jill called out encouragement, "You're getting warmer, Mrs. Sharp. Real warm." Jill noticed Mr. Applebee looking up at the Aspen trees that bordered a steep slope on the edge of the property. "Mr. Applebee, buddy, you're not even close. Get back here." The older man turned and shouted at her, "Maybe if you weren't talking about your boyfriend for the last ten minutes, we would have found the murder weapon by now." Danger, danger. Jill turned to Sawyer and faked a smile. "Better get going or you'll miss the National Anthem. I know how much you like to sing along." He crossed his arms over his broad chest, the movement putting his biceps on sigh-inducing display. Show-off. He raised an eyebrow. "What boyfriend is he talking about?" "Don't listen to him. He's losing it." She gave him a light shove. "Nice seeing you. Say hi to coach for me." "Her lumbersexual. He sounds wonderful, doesn't he, Alice?" Mrs. Lynn looked to Mrs. Sharp for confirmation, then turned to Sawyer and said loud enough for the entire town of Christmas to hear, "We're so happy she has a beau. We thought she was a lesbian, you know." Jill blinked. Seriously? She stared straight ahead, refusing to look at Sawyer. No doubt the interrogation would begin once he stopped silently laughing his ass off. Movement near the statue drew her attention to Mr. Applebee. The older man stuck his hand in the statue's mouth and triumphantly pulled out the plastic knife. There is a God. Jill pumped her fist. "Way to go, Mr. Applebee! Time to celebrate the man of the hour, folks." Sawyer leaned into her, his warm, spearmint-scented breath caressing her cheek. "You're not getting off the hook that easily, Shortstop," he said, then gently tugged on her ponytail before walking away. She glanced over her shoulder, following his loose-limbed stride. He pulled his cell phone from the front pocket of his jeans. "Hey Jack, heard something interesting. Jill has a boyfriend. Yeah, I was thinking the same . . ." Fan-flipping-tastic. Sawyer and her brother wouldn't let up until they knew every last detail. Every last detail about her fake boyfriend. She needed a real one. Fast. ![]()
