Brandon Fisher FBI Series, Book 6
by Carolyn Arnold
Genre: Crime Mystery, Thriller
All that remains are whispers of the past…
When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case.
With no quick means of identifying the victims, building a profile of this serial killer is proving more challenging than usual. How is the killer picking these victims? Why are their limbs being severed and bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this killer to murder?
The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: the killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…
**Can easily be read as a standalone!!**
PERIMETER MALL, ATLANTA, GEORGIA
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 11:30 AM EASTERN THE TIME HAD COME TO select his next victim. He had to choose carefully and perfectly—he wouldn’t get a second chance. The mall was teeming with life, and that made for a lot of eyeballs, a lot of potential witnesses. But he supposed it also helped him be more inconspicuous. People were hustling through the shopping center, interested solely in their own agendas. They wouldn’t be paying him—or what he was doing—much attention. He was standing at the edge of the food court next to the hallway leading to the restrooms eating a gyro. The lidded and oversized garbage bin on wheels that was behind him would ensure that anyone who did notice him would just think he was a mall janitor on his lunch break. The pitchy voice of a girl about eight hit his ears. “Daddy, I want ice cream.” Trailing not far behind her were a man and woman holding hands. The woman was fit and blond, but his attention was on the man beside her. He was in his twenties, easily six feet tall with a solid, athletic build. He’d be strong and put up a fight. Yes, this was the one. And talk about ideal placement—he was across from the Dairy Queen. He wiped his palms on his coveralls and took a few deep breaths. What he was about to do wasn’t because of who he was, but rather, because he had to do it. And he had to hurry. The family was coming toward him. “It’s almost lunchtime,” the woman said, letting go of the man’s hand. “Daaaaaaddyyyyy.” A whiny petition. The man looked to the woman with a smile that showcased his white teeth. “We could have ice cream for lunch?” The little girl began to bounce. “Yeah!” “Really, Eric?” The woman wasn’t as impressed as the girl, but under the man’s gaze she caved and smiled. “All right, but just today…” “Thank you, Mommy!” The girl wrapped her arms around the woman’s legs but quickly let go, prancing ahead of her parents and toward the DQ counter. “Brianna, we wash our hands first.” The woman glanced at him as she walked by and offered a reserved smile. Had she detected his interest in them? Breathe. She thinks you work here, remember? Smile back. Remain calm. Look away and act uninterested. “Oooh,” the girl moaned but returned to her mother anyway. “We’ll just be a minute,” the woman said. “Hey, doesn’t Daddy have to wash his hands?” the girl asked. Sometimes things just work out… The woman smiled at the man. “Eric?” “Yes, he does,” he playfully answered in the third person. Mother and daughter headed to the restroom, the man not far behind. It was time to get to work. He took the last bite of his sandwich, crumpled the wrapper, and tossed it into the bin. He casually moved behind it and pushed it down the hall into the men’s room. He put up a sign that said it was closed for cleaning and entered, positioning himself next to the door. From there, he could see his target at one of the urinals and another man washing his hands at the sink. Otherwise, it was quiet. Just as if it was meant to be… The stranger left the restroom without a passing glance. This left him alone with his target. He twisted the lock on the door and then moved behind the man, who paid him no mind. He took the needle out of his pocket and plunged it into the man’s neck. The man snapped a hand over where he’d been poked. “Hey!” It would take a few seconds for the drug to fully kick in. He just had to stay out of the man’s way and block the exit in the meantime. “What did you…” The man was away from the urinal now, coming toward him on unsteady legs. Both his hands went to his forehead and then it was lights-out. He collapsed on the floor. He hurried to the bin, wheeled it over to the man’s body, and lifted him just enough to dump him inside. Once the man was in there, he lowered the lid, unlocked the restroom, collected his sign, and left. His heart was thumping in his ears as he wheeled the bin out a back service door. Some people were milling around, but they didn’t seem curious about him. He went to his van and opened the back door. He put the ramp in place and simply wheeled the bin inside. When he was finished, he closed the doors and headed for the driver’s seat. He wanted to hit the gas and tear out of the lot. The adrenaline surging through his system was screaming, You got away with it again, but he didn’t like to get too cocky. Still, he did take some pride in the fact that he’d gotten what he’d come for—and it had been so, so easy.

Return to the scandalous secrets of the English countryside’s renowned getaway for R&R—restoration and romance—in this delightful series from Maggie Robinson!
After two months of treatment at Puddling-on-the-Wold, Mary Nicola Mayfield has shown no improvement, and her condition seems impervious to rehab. But Nicola is not the typical guest of Gloucestershire’s destination village for the wealthy and wayward. With her family and fiancé at their wits’ end, Nicola knows Puddling is the resort—the last resort—that holds any hope for her recovery.
Lord Jack Ryder—baron, businessman and, some say, mad genius—has gone from the heights of success to hit rock bottom, after a faulty girder from his iron foundry caused a dreadful bridge collapse. Nothing has assuaged his guilt over the passenger train that crashed or the lives that were destroyed. The stringent regimen at Puddling is not doing much for his deep depression—until he meets his mysteriously silent neighbor. Their fiery affair breaks all the rules, but will the unspoken truth be too hot to handle?

Maggie Robinson didn’t know she wanted to write until she woke up in the middle of the night once really annoyed with her husband. Instead of smothering him with a pillow, she decided to get up and write—to create the perfect man—at least on a computer screen. Only to discover that fictional males can be just as resistant to direction as her husband. The upside is that she’s finally using her English degree and is still married to her original, imperfect hero. Since she’s imperfect, too, that makes them a perfect match. Until her midnight keyboarding, she had been a teacher, librarian, newspaper reporter, administrative assistant to two non-profits, community volunteer, and mother of four in seven different states. Now Maggie can call herself a romance writer in Maine. There’s nothing she likes better than writing about people who make mistakes, but don’t let the mistakes make them.
His Last Rodeo
Sierra Legacy #4 By: Claire McEwen Releasing May 1, 2017 Harlequin Superromance
Back in the saddle again…
Tyler Ellis catches Kit Hayes completely off guard when he swaggers back home and into the bar she manages. Since high school, he's been a champion rodeo star…a notorious playboy…and now, apparently, a bar owner. She accepts his offer of a hefty bonus and helps him transform the place because she's desperate to escape their tiny town in the Sierras. She doesn't expect him to work this hard beside her. Where's the cocky cowboy he's supposed to be? Instead she discovers he's still the sweet, genuine young man she once knew. And so much more…including a threat to the adventurous life she craves.
I have really enjoyed the Sierra Legacy Series, the plots and characters are original and fresh, the author does not choose the easy way out but deals with the gritty and often rough choices and lessons the characters has to learn to find their way to their destiny.
We met Kit Hayes in the previous story when the love of her life, Arch, fell in love with another woman and left Kit with a broken heart. Just to note to the new readers of the series, Arch is not the bad guy Kit and her friends paint a picture of, just like Kit didn't turn out to be the kind of person the last book hinted about. Kit's personality does come off as raw and abrasive at first, and it took me some time to see her under the shield she hides. Because there is a kind hearted and caring person under all the tough and at times rude exterior. Tyler Ellis did the smart thing and left the rodeo world while still on the top and with his health intact. I really liked Tyler, what you see is what you get. He is charming, take charge, caring, and kind. He is humble with his weaknesses, he admits his problems and seeks help and support when needed. He went after his dreams, even though he knew nothing about the business or what it entails. He was not afraid to fail, he had guts more than most. His willing to make compromises and his priorities are admirable. The timeframe in the story is perfect, it takes months to built up the easy relationship between Kit and Tyler, especially since Kit is still so hang up on Arch and the old feelings. I liked the connection between them, the obvious love and affection Tyler had for Kit, and always have had, was adorable. The story has a smooth flow in it, it wraps around your mind as you read so that the rest of the world seize to exist until 'the end'. I got emotionally invested in the story from happy and elated to frustration and disbelief. Like I said, the author does not choose the easy or predictable way when plotting and without giving anything away, the ending, or Kit, took me by surprise, that I am still digesting. An entertaining tale about friends, family, forgiveness, and acceptance, going after your dreams and not settling for less. ~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Kit glanced at his towel in horror. “Use the lint-free kind.” She handed him a towel from the stack on the shelf over the sink. “Jeez, you are green, aren’t you?”
“Green at this,” Tyler admitted. “But rumor has it I’m a pretty quick study.” “Well, I guess we’ll find out if the rumors are true,” she teased. “It’s your first Friday night, isn’t it?” “It sure is.” He tried to smile, but it felt a little weak. “I’m looking forward to it. But I’ve got a few nerves.” “You should. You have no idea what you’re doing.” Her intoxicating combination of sass and mischief had the glass slipping out of his hand, so he had to hustle to catch it. “Nice reflexes,” she murmured. “Maybe there’s hope for you yet.” “If you help me out tonight, there is. I can pour a pint—” “Barely.” “—and measure out a shot. But if I get anything more complicated than that, I’m toast.” “You don’t know your cocktails?” “Don’t drink ’em myself. I’ve been reading recipes, but I’m more of a hands-on learner.” A nice way of saying that half the words he read made no sense. He glanced hopefully in her direction. “I just need a good teacher.” “You want me to train you? You won’t be embarrassed?” “When you rodeo, you learn by falling on your ass in front of hundreds of people. This can’t be more humiliating than that.” She studied him from underneath her thick black lashes. “What’s in it for me?” “A boss who’s not totally incompetent?” Her slow smile could melt metal. “But that could be kind of fun to watch.” “No shit-show is fun to watch for long. Plus I saw you with those customers. You pretend to be all tough, but you have a soft spot for the lost and lonely. I’m part of that club right now.” “You?” She laughed, soft and bitter. He’d give a lot to know what put that resentment in her soul. “Not the words I’d ever use to describe someone like you.” “Someone like me will pay you a training stipend. A hundred extra bucks each night.” “Now you’re trying to buy my help?” She scrubbed the pint glass in her hand with extra vigor. “Not everything can be bought, you know. Loyalty, for example.” “I’m not asking for your loyalty, though that would be nice,” Tyler said. “I’m trying to treat you like a professional. You have years of experience. I have none and I need to learn. So I pay you extra to share your expertise with me. It’s only right.” “Fine,” she said quietly. “I’ll do it. But you have to be willing to move fast and do what I say.” “I’m yours to command,” he said, liking the flush creeping up her cheeks at the tiny innuendo. “And I appreciate the help.” She grabbed a stack of dry glasses. “Well, let’s get going then. It’s getting loud out there, which means it’s getting busy.” They rounded the corner and Tyler was amazed to see a crowd that stretched almost to the door. A quick scan revealed a collection of some of the most rugged-looking folks he’d ever seen in one place. Bikers in leather, ranch hands in hats, jeans and bowlegs. Women in tight T-shirts and big hair. Kit glanced over her shoulder. “Welcome to the Dusty Saddle. Hope you’re ready to earn your spurs.”

Viking Bastards MC #2 By: Christina Phillips Releasing May 1, 2017 Entangled Scorched
Gage…
I don't fuck girls who work for me, but as soon as Amelia turns those big green eyes on me I know she's trouble. I can't keep my hands off her, and the almost-but-not-quite-sex we share in the kitchen is the hottest thing I've ever had. Except she calls it quits, before we've even started. Instead of moving on, she’s all I can think about and that's bad news. I'm breaking all my rules for her, and don't even care. Until I find out who she is and what she really wants. She's after payback, but there's no way she's going to get it. No way in hell...
I trace the outline of her ear and those three irresistible hoops. She gives a little shiver but still doesn’t grab hold of me. Guess it’s time to ease her mind on things.
I move in closer, and she steps back until she’s flat against the larder door. “What happens between us tonight doesn’t affect your job. You understand?” “You mean if I knee your nuts, you won’t fire me?” Instinctively, I cradle my junk. “That wasn’t my first thought.” Her smile damn near takes my breath away. “I bet it wasn’t. I know exactly what you’re thinking.” “Is that right?” I’m sure my package is safe so I twist a length of her hair around my finger. It’s as soft and silky as I imagined. “What’s that, then?” “I think you’re trying to get inside my thong.” The image of Amelia in nothing but a sexy thong fills my head. “You got a problem with that?” “Yeah. It’s not happening.” My gaze drops to her mouth. “Wanna bet?” “I don’t need to bet. I’m telling you. All you get tonight is a kiss.” Chicks don’t lay down the law to me. But then again, I’ve never been with a girl who confuses me as much as Amelia. If she wants to leave, she could easily walk away. I won’t stop her. But she stands there, like she’s daring me to take me up on her offer. A kiss. I give her a mocking smile. “You’ll want more than a kiss from me.” She doesn’t answer right away, and I hide my smirk of victory as I lean in to claim her mouth. Her head tilts to the side, evading me, which is both frustrating and oddly fascinating. “It doesn’t matter what I want. A kiss is my best offer. Take it or leave it.” Despite the throb between my legs, I have the crazy urge to laugh. “That’s your best offer? You sure you don’t want me to go down on you?” For a second I swear she’s about say yes, but then she hitches in a ragged breath. “Totally sure. Keep your head right where it is.” No chick has ever refused that offer before, and the way she’s so desperately trying to hide how turned on she is makes me grin. “Okay. But I’ll only kiss you on one condition.” “Huh?” She sounds drunk, and blinks at me like everything’s out of focus. “You have a condition?” “It’s only fair.” She stares at me as though I’ve lost my mind. I think I fucking have. Not that I care, since crazy as this all is, I’ve never had as much fun hooking up before. Finally, she speaks. “What is it?” “I can use my hands on you.” I wave my fingers in her face and she glances at them as though she has no idea what I’m talking about. “Okay.” There’s a cautious note in her voice as though she thinks it’s some kind of trick. “But that’s all. Just your hands.” That’s all I need.

Pull Me Close
Panic Series #1 By: Sidney Halston Released October 25, 2016 Loveswept
Welcome to Panic, a sultry Miami nightclub where bodies and hearts move to a beat that doesn’t stop at sunrise—the setting for an emotionally charged series from the bestselling author of the Worth the Fight novels.
When Katherine Wilson passes out in the arms of the hottest man she’s ever seen, it’s not because of the lights, the pulsating music, or the crowded dance floor. It’s because she can’t enjoy a night out like a normal person, not with her debilitating anxieties. These panic attacks are going to destroy her life unless she takes control—or gets a helping hand. So after the club’s bad-boy owner personally escorts her home, Katherine feels something urgent and primal awaken inside of her. Nick Moreno doesn’t need a headache like Katherine. A drug bust has put his father behind bars and forced Nick to take over the daily business of his family’s South Beach nightclub. His head tells him to walk away—but his body has other ideas. Katherine’s vulnerability, her grace and courage, compel him to reach out. And when they kiss, Nick is overcome by desire: to pull her close, and promise that his embrace will always be the safest place on earth.
My heart melts at the scene around me. Four months ago I couldn’t have dreamed this, and now I’m living it. I love these people. Really love them. My heart is so full right now it feels as if it’s going to burst.
I’m alone in the booth with Nico, who is sitting with a cigar in one hand and a tumbler of amber liquid in the other, looking so damn sexy and dangerous. “You drunk, baby?” he asks, indicating the flute with a nod of his chin. I put the flute on the table and slide closer to him. He puts his cigar and drink down and wraps an arm around my waist. “Drunk enough to want to say something to you, but not drunk enough that it won’t count.” “What do you want to say to me, corazón?” He tucks some stray hair behind my ear and his thumb strokes my cheek. “I’ve decided I’m going to let myself fall in love with you,” I say. His smile fades. He brings his other hand to my cheek, those emeralds eyes looking intently at me. “Then you need to catch up, baby." “What? Are you drunk?” “Drunk enough that I want to make love to you on this table right now, but not enough to actually try it.” I laugh and throw myself on him. One hand holds me tightly against him, while the other one grabs his phone. “One second,” he says as he ferociously types something into his phone. Jeez, so not the right time to be texting. “Come on,” he says at last, and helps me up. He pushes the table back a little so that we have more space. I’m not exactly sure what is going on, but I don’t question it. Suddenly the fast-paced dance music stops mid-song and the DJ comes on the speakers. “A special request,” the DJ says. The strobe lights stop and the overall lighting dims, and then a familiar song that does not at all belong in a modern dance club starts playing. People look confused for a moment, as do I until I recognize the song: “Just Breathe” by Pearl Jam. “Just breathe,” he tells me, because I’ve stopped breathing.

Mix in some societal problems, family drama, a little danger, little mystery, an adorable young man from France, and childhood enemies finding themselves falling for each other and you have thought-provoking story in your hands.
The main theme in the story is the apparent change former bully and 'mean girl' Flora Montgomery is going through in her life. She used to be feared for her sharp and critical tongue. Now she is outcast and avoided after some drama she created in the town, meddling in other people's business she had no place to interfere in. Forgiveness is not an easy and automatic thing and the struggle Flora has to go through to find her new place in the society with the new attitude with a change of heart is a lonely, uphill battle. After losing his father in an accident George finds out the trouble in the family business. Searching for the truth about the terrible conditions at the mine the family owns, he goes undercover and runs into his childhood bully, Flora, who doesn't recognize him. My favorite part of the story was the bond that developed between Flora, George, and Pierre. The connection was there immediately, the bonding and joy they experience in each others company were delightful. I found it humorous how obvious the growing feelings between George and Flora were. Everyone paired them immediately, and their destiny would have been sealed if not the assumed class separation or financial troubles in George's family. The first part of the story got a little stuck on the theme of Flora's past and need to change, the class differences in that time period and the snobbiness of the upper-class society. But when the mysteries at the mine starts to unravel, the story takes off to an exciting and exhilarating suspenseful yet love-filled journey. The message of the kindness, forgiveness, and acceptance in the story is clear. The character development is underlined, encouraged and celebrated. The class actions and judgment of the society is challenged. And through it all, the message of love, in different forms, comes abundantly apparent. ~ Four Spoons
In USA TODAY bestselling author Regan Black's new Escape Club Heroes thriller, a guarded man builds a future with a woman without a past...
Outside of one of Philadelphia's busiest nightclubs, a woman stumbles from her taxi. Beaten and bruised, Melissa Baxter is an amnesiac with a target on her back. Gun-shy, Melissa relies on a handsome hero to help her uncover who she really is. Carson Lane--a paramedic with his own dark history--can't help but bring this beautiful, vulnerable woman under his wing. Still reeling from his partner's murder, he's no stranger to risk. But as he and Melissa begin unraveling the mystery of who she really is, Carson realizes falling in love could be the biggest risk of all.
First I just want to mention how much I love and admire the concept of the book series, the Escape Club, and what they do and how they help people in dire straits. It was inspiring and uplifting to read about these amazing heroes and heroines, and it put a fire in my mind to do something to make a difference.
The story flows effortlessly off the pages and mesmerized my mind. The constant elevated tension from the amnesia, barely surviving the vicious attacks, the growing attraction between the protagonists, and the deep sorrow of losses they have faced, the personal struggles they are battling, it all makes the story impossible to put down. Carson Lane won my heart over repeatedly with his protective, humble, and kind nature. His willingness to put everything in to help others was admirable. The fact that he is not perfect, or that he does not see himself as perfect, made him even more attractive. His gentle, tender side with Lissa was so sweet, yet the heat between them had me fanning the air because the sweetness and loving were mixed with burning desires and delicious spiciness. Melissa Baxter seemed to be the perfect mate to Carson, they balanced each other, there was harmony between them, they made me smile. The trust between them was solid even though fast to built. Even amongst all the drama and trouble, danger and fear, they manage to hold on to a resemblance of normality, they were supportive of each other, encouraging and understanding. Yes, they had me swooning when they danced together. The suspense had me on my toes. The way everything was twined together in the bigger picture as the plot was unveiling was well played and sketched. As much as I read, it is a rare occasion that I would not change anything in the plot, but here I loved each moment, every scene, and how the events played off as I was glued to the story, inhaling the tale. Loved it. ~ Five Spoons
HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT
Miriam Miller barely escapes the ruthless attacker that killed her mother and kidnapped her sister. Running deeper into the woods, she's running out of hope...until she falls into the arms of an unlikely bodyguard--a peaceful Amish farmer. Something about Abram Zook inspires her trust, but even in bucolic Willkommen, Georgia, Miriam faces danger. Both from the men pursuing her and from her growing feelings for the caring--though guarded--widower who protects her. Because if she falls for Abram she'll have to embrace his Amish faith as her own--or lose him. With each minute, her abductor creeps closer, pushing Miriam to an inevitable choice: stay and risk her heart...or leave and risk her life.
One of the scariest, most intense starts to a story I have read in a while, that had my heart rate up. The tension level stays elevated, the fear is tangible and concrete in the tale all the way to the end.
I have not read many Amish stories, and the culture and religion fascinated my mind. I enjoyed the tidbits of the information shared, as well as the strong faith Abram had in God, his belief on God's guidance in his life. Abram Zook is a great complex hero. His past mistakes are weighing heavily on his mind and the battles to do the right thing, to forgive himself, to swallow his pride, to accept his growing feelings towards Miriam Miller were his constant companions. He is protective, kind-hearted man, who wants to follow the old traditions, to honor his family, and keep his faith. Miriam Miller had barely escaped a great danger. She had witnessed the murder of her mother, her sisters are missing, and even before the danger they got in, her whole life seemed to be in trouble and upheaval. Miriam had good intentions, she didn't want to put anyone else in danger while not sure who to trust. But she didn't take any advice and made grave mistakes, putting people around her in even more trouble. Her stubbornness not to hear anyone else, not to think things through before acting was frustrating, say the least. I liked the story, both the suspense and the romance side of it had fascinating elements and events. The growing feelings between Miriam and Abram develop fast but are believable and satisfying. I wish there would have been a bit more about the investigation, that the crimes committed would have come to more of a conclusion. I understand this is part of the series, and there isn't a cliffhanger per se, yet I was left wondering about what, why, how, who - just many unwrapped or unexplained elements in the crimes and investigation. So I am conflicted with this story because I really enjoyed it, the characters were intriguing and their faith in God was unwavering. The danger and fear in the air were toe-curling and crimes committed were savage. But all the questions left open in my mind at the end is what took the score down, as well as the stubborn and foolish actions of Miriam when facing dangerous situations. ~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

Two lonely hearts.
Just once, she'd like to be someone's first choice. She's strong-willed and spunky, but she's left picking up the pieces from her ex's lies and manipulations, and daydreaming about taking a scalpel to his scrotum. Flying under the radar is what he does best. He's laid-back and loyal, but he wants the most off-limits woman in his world, and nothing will ever make that a reality. An arrangement of mutual benefit. Two months, four dates. Five, if things go well. Five at the most. But possibly six. Definitely no more than six dates. Only the appearance of a romantic relationship is required, and they expect nothing more from their time together. There will be none of those benefits involved. One wild weekend. After waking up in bed together—very naked and even more hungover—the terms and conditions of their arrangement no longer apply. Now they're faced with something riskier than exposing their fake relationship: letting go of the past and zipping up the future. Some things have to fall apart before they can be put back together.
Riley pointed at the plate between us. "These are my favorite pretzel bites in the city. Try some."
I shot him a sharp look. "Are you just trying to get me in a good mood?" I asked. "I did eat lunch today." "Oh yeah?" he asked, dipping two pretzels in the accompanying sauce. "What did you have? Based on you yelling at me about noticing your shoes, I'd say it was an iced venti skinny latte." "Almonds," I replied. And an iced venti skinny latte but I wasn't copping to that just yet. Riley tried to fight a laugh, and failed. "Almonds?" he repeated. "Chocolate covered almonds, yes." I folded my arms across my chest. "It was an appropriate amount of calories, fat, protein, and carbs." He shook his head and ate another pretzel. "I don't want to live in a world where a few almonds—chocolate or otherwise—are lunch." He pointed to the plate and pushed his beer toward me. "Eat. Drink. Please." I glared at the pilsner and pretzels. I hated being told what to do. Just fucking hated it. But then my stomach growled—goddamn it—and Riley shot me a pointed glance. "People think that a rumbling stomach is the sign of hunger," I said, reaching for his glass. I drained the beer and then selected a pretzel for dipping. "It is not." Riley gazed at me, his expression flat. It gave me a moment to study him while choosing another pretzel. He was wearing jeans, a tailored shirt with the cuffs rolled up to his elbows, and a pinstriped vest, and his hair was a wreck. It looked like he'd been tugging the dark strands in every conceivable direction. His eyes were rimmed with a bit of red and his lids heavy, as if he'd been rubbing them or hadn't gotten much sleep. Perhaps both. There was a small notebook beside his phone, and a mechanical pencil tucked into the spiral binding. And he was still more attractive than I knew how to handle. Even tired and irritable, and ordering me to eat his pretzels and drink his beer, he was hot as fuck. I bit into another pretzel and offered him a small smile. "Would you say the chip on your shoulder is massive or epic?" he asked. There was no hint of amusement in his tone, and he was staring at me with more ice than I'd believed he could muster. It didn't feel like we were sniping at each other anymore. "It might be semantics to you but I'm trying to get a feel for what I'm dealing with here." But then one of his big hands found my leg under the table. He squeezed and rubbed his thumb along the hollow of my knee, and I started to believe I'd been all wrong about this man. There was the player and there was the overgrown kid, but there was so much more than that. PRESERVATION excerpt – © 2017, Kate Canterbary

In Copper Ridge, Oregon, a cowboy's best friend might turn out to be the woman of his dreams…
If Finn Donnelly makes a plan, he sticks to it. After his brothers left Copper Ridge, Finn stayed behind, determined to keep their ranch going by himself. And when he realized his feelings for Lane Jensen were more than platonic, he shoved that inconvenient desire away. It was easy…until it wasn't. Suddenly his brothers are coming home to claim their share of the property. And Lane is no longer just in his fantasies. She's in his arms, and their friendship is on the line… He's been her buddy, her handyman, her rock. But until that one breathtaking kiss, Lane somehow overlooked the most important thing about Finn Donnelly—he's all man. They're right together, no matter how much his volatile past has bruised him. Finn wants to hold Lane's body, but he doesn't want to hold her heart. But Lane is falling fast and now she's got a plan of her own…to show Finn there's nothing hotter than friendship turned to slow-burning love.
A beautifully written love story from best friends to lovers and so much more, with deep emotions and fervent passion, plentiful of angst, and family trouble.
From the very first scene, the author's words lured me into the tale and I was emotionally invested in the characters, in the events occurring, in the story. It felt like coming home, to be at the Copper Ridge again, and watch Finn Donnelly and Lane Jensen find their destiny. Finn and Lane had had an easy and comfortable friendship for years. The way they were with each other, their interactions, every moment they were together, it was obvious how important they were to each other, how deep their feelings for each other were. The warm comfort, the security in the friendship, the confidence they had in each other was strong and admirable. I loved how Lane's eyes opened to see Finn in a new light, as a man, and how her desire to know more about him, after all the years as her best friend, shocked her to the core. There is an abundance of drama and trouble in Finn and Lane's story. They both have past baggage that they still carry with them, hurt and disappointments that affect they life and faith in the future possibilities. I understood Finn's struggles to accept that the ranch was divided in four when it was him that had put his tears, blood, and hard work into it. The tension between the brothers, the undercurrents running in the house was tangible and somehow heartbreaking at the same time. It was impossible not to get my feelings involved in the conflicts between the brothers. Lane is nearly paralyzed when suddenly the reminders of her past mistakes as blasted on her face constantly. The secret that she never wanted to share with anyone is now messing with her head, as well as the new burning desire she feels for Finn, all mixed up in a bundle of her chaotic thoughts. She is conflicted with her feelings, with her needs, with her wants and future goals. I adored Lane and Finn together. The way they knew each other, the way they were with each other, it was a solid foundation to built something more, something special, something unique. The push and pull between them, the fear of the change, the development of the new kind of relationship, it goes on for an extended time. There were moments when I felt a frustration as I wanted them to figure it out and accept their new, flaming feelings and deeper emotions for each other, find the peace of mind with the past, the hope, and faith in the better future. An engaging and emotion-filled story that smoothly flew off the pages entertaining my mind and touching my heart. A lovely visit to Copper Ridge to witness the bliss, drama, and passion between Finn and Lane. ~ Four Spoons

When Tessa enters his life, and turns it upside down, can he tempt her to fall in love with him and find her new forever?
I walk back into my bedroom and realize she can’t get the zipper open on her dress. My dick twitches in my pants at the thought of taking that dress off her body. I slowly walk toward her, never taking my eyes off hers. It only takes me a few strides to reach her, and she turns so her back is against my front. I slowly trace my finger along her shoulder blade and down her spine until I grasp the zipper and slowly pull it down. I have to stop myself from helping the dress from falling from her hot as fuck body. Just as I’m about to step back and leave the room, she looks me in the eyes again from over her shoulder.
“Please don’t go.” She says on a whisper That is the opening I needed, I spin her around so she is facing me. The motion makes her dress fall down to the floor and she’s standing before me in a skimpy black lacy bra and matching panty set that makes my mouth water. She is so fucking beautiful. “You are so fucking beautiful,” I growl out to her. I cup her face again and bring my lips to hers. She lifts up on her toes to deepen the kiss and I swipe my tongue across her lips looking for access to her mouth. She opens for me and I deepen the kiss and take complete control. I lift her up and she wraps her legs around my waist. I can feel her heat and arousal through her wet panties and fuck, that’s hot and makes my cock hard as steel. I could devour this woman all night and never tire from it. I gently lay her down on my bed, her legs still wrapped around me and grind myself into her. This makes a deep moan escape from her. I can feel the moan form deep within her. I move my lips to kiss along her jawline and down her neck. From the moans leaving her, I am going to guess she likes what I’m doing and keep working my way down to her collarbone. I then kiss my way back up to behind her ear and graze my teeth across her earlobe. I whisper in her ear, “Is all this ok, do I need to stop?” “Don’t stop,” she says between moans. “Don’t you fucking stop.” Roger that! I continue to kiss my way down her neck and across the tops of her full breasts. They have been on display tonight and I’ve been dreaming of when I could get my hands and lips on them. I quickly locate the clasp of her bra and flick it open and drop it to the floor. I kiss my way down one breast, sucking her nipple into my mouth and use my hand on her other one rolling her nipple between my fingers. This extracts a few louder moans from her and has her arching her back to thrust her breast into me even more. I release her nipple with a pop and look up at her. The look of desire on her face tells me everything I need to know. “You have too many clothes on,” she says to me pulling at my shirt. I reach behind my head and grab my shirt and rip it over my head. Her hands run down from my shoulders to my abs, tracing a few of my tattoos along the way. She also traces over one of my scars from one of my many surgeries. “Does that hurt when I touch your scars?” she asks tenderly. “No, they haven’t hurt me in years. The only scars that I get pain in sometimes are on my leg along my stump.” I lean down and capture her lips again with mine while I explore her body with my hands. I lift her higher up on the bed and then kiss my way back down her body. I love the feeling of her muscles twitching beneath my fingertips and lips. I am sure my few days’ worth of stubble is adding another layer of stimulation. Once I reach the top of her panties, I hook my fingers in the sides of them and slowly pull them down off her hips and down her toned sexy legs. I toss them behind me once I have them off of her. I can see her arousal glistening and can’t help but need to taste her. As I lean down, I kiss her inner thighs first on her left leg and then the right working my way toward her center. I flick out my tongue and swipe her slit. “Fuck you taste fucking amazing,” I moan into her pussy before sucking her clit into my mouth. I slip my hand around and run my finger along her opening and then press one finger in. Her body immediately pulses around my finger and the moans and encouragement coming from her spur me on. I add a second finger and rotate them until I find that perfect spot that has her lifting off the bed. It only takes a few more seconds before she’s coming all over me. I can’t get enough of her. I slowly kiss my way back up her body allowing her time to come down from her orgasm. “Holy shit, that was hot baby,” I whisper to her. “I need you inside me right now,” she pants back to me. I stand needing to drop my jeans and remove my prosthetic as well as grab a condom from my nightstand. Sex with my prosthetic on is uncomfortable. It just gets in my way. I have never been insecure about people seeing either my prosthetic or my leg without it on. It is just a part of who I am. I look down at her; beautiful, open, and ready for me. I give a couple tugs to my cock before sliding the condom down into place. I crawl back up her body sucking a nipple into my mouth as I make my way back up to take her lips in mine. I drag my cock along her wet slit and along her clit, dragging moans out of her as I do. I break the kiss to pull back and look in her eyes. “Are you sure you’re ready?” I ask. I would hate for her to regret this in the morning “I am sure, please get inside me now.” She moans back to me, doing her best to press me into her with her legs that are wrapped back around my waist. “Yes ma’am,” I tell her as I gently slip the tip of my cock into her warm folds. I stop for a few seconds to let her adjust and then thrust the rest of the way inside her. Holy fuck, she is perfect. So fucking tight. It’s almost like her body was created to fit mine. I’m not going to last long at this rate. I find our rhythm and within a few minutes we are both on the brink of orgasm. I reach down between us and flick her clit and she explodes around me. I follow her over the edge and have the best orgasm I have ever had in my life. I kiss her and then roll so I’m not crushing her and pull her so she is beside me with her head on my chest. I wrap my arms around her and just melt into the bed. I need to take care of the condom, so I slip out of bed and into the bathroom. I come back out with a warm washcloth to help clean her up and then climb back in and pull her into my arms. “That was amazing baby,” I say into her hair. “Best birthday present ever,” she sighs back to me.
