A SEAL’s Secret: Uniformly Hot # 6

Subject: Lt. Commander Mitch "Irish" Donovan
His Mission:
Babysit a fitness queen with a hands-on approach!

Navy SEAL Mitch Donovan always plays to win. The push-up contest at the Halloween party should have been a piece of cake. Except that the cake in question is a hot woman dressed as a delicious dessert. Now the only exercise on Mitch's mind is restraint…

Livi Kane may be The Body Babe, but she has zero confidence. This hunky SEAL, however, makes her forget everything—except for a workout involving his hot, naked bod and a whole lot of sexy, sweaty delight. But Mitch has his secrets—and Livi certainly has hers. All it will take is one unexpected encounter to turn this steamy attraction into an even bigger secret that will start showing any day now…

Fun steamy and sensual story of a Navy SEAL and fitness expert, at the crossroads of their lives.
Livi, one of the leading fitness experts in the world, is hiding the fact that she is terribly shy, and would rather steer clear of groups of people. She is recovering from her divorce, and the financial devastation her ex left behind him. Under her mother's steal hand management, her career is at the top, her life busier than she desires.
Mitch, the super hero of the SEALs is confident, the best of the best, his main focus in his career, and to be advancing in the right direction, leaving no room for a relationship.
They meet on Halloween night, and the sparks are off immediately. The chemistry between them is scalding hot, but the requirements and commitments of their careers put it in a hold. Only giving it time to heat up even more. If that is possible. Soon the fun and sexy relationship is on, and slowly, but surely they get to know each other, on and off the bedroom.
Things are going well, until their careers twist together, and they have to decide, what is the most important thing in their lives, what are their priorities, what are their passions and goals in life.
Passionate, entertaining, and thought provoking story

A SEAL’s Pleasure: Uniformly Hot # 7

Subject: Navy SEAL Gabriel Thorne
Mission: Initiate Operation: Romance…and prove that one night isn't enough!

Explosives expert and Navy SEAL Gabriel "Romeo" Thorne makes his living tempting fate. Pushing the limits. So far, he's never lost—especially when it comes to women. That is, until his best friend's wedding, where Gabriel is suddenly face-to-face—and deliciously body-to-body—with the one woman hot enough to detonate his self-control.

Tessa Monroe is used to being in control with men. Gabriel, on the other hand, is pretty much her sex kryptonite. Hard, gorgeous, dark-eyed kryptonite. Even as her defenses whisper "danger," lust demands she take her pleasure with him and then run. Now they're skirting the edge of an explosive attraction…where one wrong move could mean disaster.

When two master players on the field of pleasure and flirt, who always win, comes together, the sparks are about to fly!
Gabriel and Tessa surely have combustible connection. They are so hot and sensual, the steam is smoldering. What I enjoyed immensely, was the wait Gabriel put into their sexual relationship, wanting their connection to be different from all the others before. They get to know each other, they even have begun sort of friends, they comfort each other and give each other support.
Yes, they run for cover  behind the flirting and dirty talk, constant banter between them, just to avoid the intense feelings they are having. But the feelings are there, getting deeper, and there's no escape from it.
Both having problems with their careers, someone else is messing behind their backs, making choices that affect people around them, and possibly could change both their careers. This common core brings Gabriel and Tessa even closer together, as they offer advice and support.
The story is full of wedding stress, career moves, friends,  loyalty, trust, heated sensual moments, and yes, love. Very entertaining story, that made me smile

Books & Spoons Review: The Australian by Lesley Young

Crime Royalty Romance # 2
By: Lesley Young
Releasing March 27, 2015
Self-Published

Charlie Sykes takes everything and everyone at face value—and believes life would be a lot easier if everyone else did, too. Aussie Jace Knight, international hotelier and purported playboy, has never met anyone like the absurdly literal and beautiful American who applies for his personal assistant position. The trouble is, how do you pursue a woman whose definition of flirting comes straight out of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? That, and he’s not the only one after Charlie. Seems Mr. Knight might not be a reformed criminal after all.

Soon, Charlie’s immersed in a whirlwind of international espionage that takes her from the hip streets of Sydney to the majestic Great Barrier Reef and the wild, desolate outback. A dangerous trap’s being set, but how will Charlie protect herself and prevent a tragic betrayal, when she can’t even sort out what her heart’s telling her?

Picture
Interestingly, different kind of a story. The whole book is told in first person, from the heroine's point of view. Charlie is not your typical heroine, or even a person, with her inability to feel emotions, lie, hold her opinion of something, communicate, small talk, and so many other things, making her rather awkward socially. But Jace seems to be intrigued by her, understand her quirks, and accept them. He is likable, attractive, caring, and accepting man, who has had past in the criminal world, and still makes his own definition of right and wrong.
The story tells Charlie's move to Australia after her drug addict mother dies of overdose, the difficulties she faces in the new country and environment. Working for Jace Knight, they form a relationship, that turns into a sensual ride for Charlie, finding herself as a sexual being for the first time in her life. I admired the patience Jace had for her, as she stumbles through new experiences in life.
The criminal world Jace is, or isn't, involved in, steps in, creating dangerous situations, putting trust in the fragile relationship into a test, and making Charlie grow as a person, as things do get totally out of control, and several law enforcement agencies are involved.
Charlie is so unique, making the story interesting and different. At the same time, with Charlie's lack of ability to feel emotions, and the story told entirely from her point of view, it also lacks the intensity, that otherwise could have been part of the tale. Even the sexiest love scenes, that are detailed, didn't reach the emotional potential that could have been there.
I struggled a bit with the second half of the book, but overall, the story sets apart with its unique heroine and her way to look at the world, matched with super hot, kind, and caring, ex-crime boss hero, coming to the total score of

Heart’s Desire
Healing Harts # 1

Releasing April 28th, 2015

TJ KLINE’s brand new Healing Hart's series kicks off with HEART'S DESIRE

If you could have anything, do anything… what would it be?

Jessie Hart has a soft spot for healing the broken, especially horses and children, but her business is failing and bankruptcy is looming. The one man who can save Heart Fire Ranch is the last man she wants to take advice from - financial expert Nathan Kerrington - the same man who broke her heart eight years ago.

Nathan Kerrington has it all, except the one thing he’d wanted most - Jessie. Now that he’s finally freed himself from his corrupt family, he wants to make amends. When he’s called in to save Jessie’s ranch, he sees his chance to win her back - if only he can prove to her that she can trust him with her heart…

Trust, love, and family connections put into a test in a compelling and captivating story.
Jessie, Julia, and Justin are not only struggling with the loss of their parents, it seems that the family ranch, that is Jessie's responsibility, is struggling financially. Without Jessie's consent, Justin asks his former best friend, Nathan, to help.
As soon as Jessie and Nathan meet again, it's like 8 years have vanished, and the physical attraction is sizzling again. But there are disappointments, broken hearts, untold facts, and different lifestyles between them. Jessie is mentally exhausted, from her parents death, her brothers doubts, running the ranch alone, and facing the financial troubles. Now she has to deal with her first, and only, love as well, who left her broken hearten 8 years ago. Her self esteem is low, she is feeling like a failure, like no one trusts her abilities, and she is starting to doubt herself as well. I have to say my heart broke a bit for her, she seemed so devastated. She is a capable, strong, opinionated and stubborn woman, she just can't see the same in herself as others do.
Nathan left the Hart family behind, to protect them from his crooked family. Now he has a new chance with Jessie, to set the record straight, and save the ranch from going under. I admired Nathan's patience, as Jessie is going from burning hot to cold and back, while doubting his and her own feelings.
Nathan's investigation brings out interesting, and unexpected, information, pulling the family loyalties, and setting a riff between the siblings. Is Nathan like his crooked father, trying to steal money from the ranch, or is someone else responsible for it?
Alluring story, where trust, faith, and confidence in themselves, and each other, will be the only way for love to win, and give hope for a future together.

Bait
Duty & Honor # 2
By: Leslie Jones
Releasing April 28th, 2015
Witness Impulse

Picture
In the next thrilling Duty & Honor novel, a female CIA agent and a Delta Force soldier must catch a deadly assassin… but do they know where the danger truly lies?

After several assassination attempts on an allied royal, the CIA sends in operative Christina Madison—who bears a striking resemblance to the monarch—to pose as the famous princess and draw out her would-be killer.

When Delta Force Lieutenant Gabriel Morgan's team is assigned to Christina's undercover protection detail, he's less than thrilled. Gabe wants nothing to do with a woman whose rumored screw-up nearly got her last team killed. Not to mention there's bad blood between Gabe and the CIA—he doesn't trust anyone who lies for a living.

But once the trap is set and the assassin takes the bait, Gabe must protect her with his life … because danger lurks in the shadows, and now Christina is in the cross-hairs.

Review:

Thrilling suspense and smoking hot attraction, that is easy to get hooked on.
Yet another suspense story, I had a hard time putting down, and wasn't ready for it to end. I enjoyed the team, their dynamics, hard core attitude of protect and serve, and their dedication to the matters at hand.
The danger, threat, instability of the situation and vulnerability of the operation is constant and persistent. Surprises brings more action than expected, twists in the plot underlying sensitivity of the situation. The action is fast, brutal, cruel and bloody. The constant support and backing of the team mates balancing the minds of the warriors. There are many operators, villains, and motives, personal feelings mixed with politics, that keep the story going and the action and mystery flowing.
The love/hate relationship between Gabriel and Christina has its history from the previous mission, and rumors floating about Christina. The attraction is strong, and they fight it, to keep their focus and head to the game, in the mission. But the more they get to know each other, the deeper their emotions about each other get, and the development of the feelings is a joy to follow. The heat is hot between them, combustible by the time they finally get together.
Even though this is a book two in a series, it is easy to read as a stand-alone novel. Though I have to say, there are several comments of previous events, and missions, that might make more sense if the book one is read first (something I didn't do).
Burning hot romance, that develops while the operators are on a difficult mission to save European Royalty. The action is fast, furious, and frantic, the suspense holds till the end of the story, making it an enjoyable read

Books & Spoons Review: Be Afraid by Mary Burton

Picture
The Fear Is Terrifying

When police rescue five-year-old Jenna Thompson from the dark closet where she's been held captive for days, they tell her she's a lucky girl. Compared to the rest of her family, it's true. But even with their killer dead of an overdose, Jenna is still trying to find peace twenty-five years later.

But The Truth

On leave from her forensic artist job, Jenna returns to Nashville, the city where she lost so much. Instead of closure, she finds a new horror. Detective Rick Morgan needs Jenna's expertise in identifying the skeletal remains of a young child. The case jogs hazy half-buried memories--and a nagging dread that Jenna's ordeal hasn't ended.

Is Even Worse

Now other women are dying. And as the links between these brutal killings and Jenna's past becomes clear, she knows this time, a madman will leave no survivors. . .

Review

Very intense, dark and edgy suspense, multiple murders, and many mysteries to be solved, with a touch of romance on the side.
From the beginning you can feel the crazy in the villain, his multiple personality disorder is clear, present, and accounted for. It is creepy kind of scary story telling, that will make you check that your doors are locked and windows sealed.
The mysteries are piling up, as the murder cases end up on the desk of the homicide detective Rick Morgan and his partner. From the beginning, it is clear Rick is not the favorite member of the team, and the conflict between the partners is constantly present but never solved. Setting up the stage for the story takes a long time, with the multiple characters all being involved, and their secrets from the past introduced, the shadows of their history somehow being involved in the grand scheme of the events. The story picks up speed and interest after halfway through, when the stage is finally set, and all the players introduced. It was fascinating to read about their efforts to solve all the cases, using their education, talents, skills, and pure perseverance and stubbornness, when all else failed.
The story is heavy on the murder mysteries, and very light on the romance side. The connection between Rick and Jenna is more professional, and the romance part does fall a bit flat after so much built up.
This is a second book in the series, and there are so many remarks about the past, without explanation, and events that clearly were just cleaning up events from the past book, that I recommend to read it first, to better understand this story. Also in this book, several things were left without full closer, that I hope will be wrapped up in the next book in the series.
Overall, fierce, intimidating, and addictive suspense, with an inkling of great romance that was happening on the side. Many twists, turns, and surprises in the plot keeps the story going, giving it several peaks, and making the score up to

Books & Spoons Review: The Billionaire's Bid by Kaira Rouda

25/4/2015

Picture
Handsome tycoon James Putnam is acting CEO of his family’s logging company, Putnam Industries. He needs to land a big deal to prove to the board he’s capable of taking over the company. If not, his father’s right-hand-man Walter is more than willing to fill the role. James hurries to Indigo Island alone, certain he has what it takes to land the deal.

Aubrey Templeton is a gorgeous magazine reporter facing a mountain of debt after her parents’ tragic deaths. The only asset she has to leverage is 2,500 acres of land on Indigo Island. She hires Dirk Cooley, a forester, to create a forest management plan for her family’s land and to solicit multiple logger bids to lease the land. Aubrey makes sure James Putnam’s company is included. Aubrey and James shared a night she’ll never forget and she’s certain, once he sees her, he’ll want a repeat as much as she does. What she doesn’t know is that Dirk’s goal in life is to destroy the Putnam family and he doesn’t care who goes down with them.
Will James recognize Aubrey as more than a sexy landowner? Could she become a partner in both love and business? Will they uncover Dirk’s plot before it’s too late? Will they recognize the common roots that lead to love?

Deception, deceit, and awkward moments occur, as James and Aubrey try to build their future, separate or together, and take care of the Indigo Island's future as well.
The story is not your typical 'billionaire affair' tale, these characters are as real and faulty as the rest of us. They deal with real life issues, and don't throw their money around. Family and inheritance are important to them, and they are willing to go the extra mile to protect them.
The chemistry and connection between James and Aubrey was immediate, the attraction obvious and strong. They have so much more in common than just physical attraction, and they work together as a team, to protect the island they both have roots on. They have their personal issues they are working on, and conquering, making them characters I wanted to cheer for. The importance of family, and others around them, made them very likable and charismatic.
The events of the story rolls nicely, plot twists and surprises made it a page turner that I read in one sitting. Enjoyable and entertaining story

Obsessed
A Starstruck Novella # 1
By: Beth Ciotta

Releasing April 13, 2015
BC Ink

Picture
A showplace for talent. A playground for love. STARSTRUCK. A new contemporary continuity series by Beth Ciotta, Cynthia Valero, and Elle J Rossi. Three authors. One world. Launching with Ciotta’s sexy novella—Obsessed.

A Fallen Star…

A hot-mess of controversy and scandal, Dakota Breeze—tarnished pop star of fading fame and fortune—accepts a friend’s offer, taking refuge in a small Midwestern town in order to rehearse her comeback concert in secret. Starstruck is the perfect venue however rehearsals are marred by Dakota’s reluctance to resurrect her former bad-girl persona and complicated by an anonymous death threat.

A Haunted Bodyguard…

Enlisted by a mutual friend, Wyatt MacDermott—a seasoned protection specialist—agrees to act as Dakota’s temporary bodyguard. Forced to set aside a personal grudge in order to fulfill his duties, Mac’s stunned by his fierce and instant attraction to the reckless celebrity he’s long associated with his greatest regret.

Obsessed with conflicting needs and united passion, Dakota and Wyatt spin out of control, indulging in a whirlwind affair and tempting an avenger’s wrath.

Picture
Dakota palmed her aching chest, fought for an even breath as Mac steered the sedan through the gates to her temporary residence. She hadn’t meant to spew or to beg. She didn’t want his pity.

But she did want him.

For all his indifference, he made her feel safe. At this point she’d welcome anything, even the company of Ice Man, to minimize her stress. Stress messed with her concentration and judgment, undermining her on-stage performances and her pursuit of private serenity.

Feeling exposed and raw, Dakota pushed her agenda. “So are you with me or not?”

He didn’t respond. Of course, he didn’t respond. The man was a freaking robot.

The car stopped just shy of the house and, with a white-knuckled hold on her purse, Dakota pushed open her door. Her shoulder sang with the effort, but she didn’t groan or complain or even wince. Mac was right. She was lucky to be alive.

She blocked his cold rejection from her mind, focused on Maggie. She needed to check on her ailing assistant and she didn’t want to compound matters by looking like a frazzled mess.

A startled scream stuck in her throat as her new bodyguard backed her against the car.

“One,” he said, spearing her with steely grey eyes, “You don’t move without telling me first. Two: As soon as we get in the house, I want that letter. Three: I say jump, you jump. I’m talking unflinching trust, Dakota.”

It was the most he’d said to her since they’d met and even though he’d done nothing but issue arrogant orders, a strange sense of calm snaked through her tense being. Pinned between the tank of a car and her broad-shouldered bodyguard, Dakota held his gaze and raised onto her toes, her mouth a breath away from his own. “For me to jump, MacDermott, I need to know something other than ice flows through your veins.”

And with that she indulged in one last impulsive act. She pressed her lips to his, anticipating rejection. Anticipating Antarctica.

Instead, he blew her away, melting her bones with a deep, searing kiss. His touch, his taste, his passion dazed her far more than any spinning car. Who could think straight with his strong hands exploring her curves? With his massive erection raging between them?

Dakota gave over to the intensity, the wonder, the mind-blowing melding that obliterated morality. Just shy of her jumping his freaking bones, Mac cooled her jets by backing away.

“Now you know,” he said as he reverted to professional indifference. “And if you’re smart, you’ll leave it at that.”

All-Star linebacker Frank Kelly is as well-known for his off-the-field hits as he is for his on-field ones. When a dance club brawl ends with him in handcuffs again, he’s rescued by a well-connected woman who can get the charges dropped in exchange for a small favor. If he’ll agree to play the part of a doting boyfriend for two months, she’ll keep him out of the slammer and help restore his reputation.

Kiana Dyer may be the daughter of a Hall of Fame football player, but the charity organization she set up in his honor isn’t getting the media attention she’d hoped for. A staged romance with Frank Kelly is just the ticket she needs to get it in the spotlight. As the lines between fake and real start to blur, she begins to wonder if bailing him out was the best call she’s ever made. Just when everything seems to be falling perfectly in place, scandal surrounds her charity, and she’s the one left scrambling to clear her name.

I totally got lost in this story, I adored the characters and the connection they had.
The 'Romeo' - player, with insecurities when it came to women, who fell for the single mother, independent, strong, capable woman, who was fighting to keep her father's legacy alive. The connection, attraction, pull for each other between Kiana and Frank is immediate and forceful. They try to fight it, both for their own reasons, but it is strong and real. Frank, the constant flirt, is adorable trying to do his best to be a gentleman, because his respect and admiration towards Kiana. The way their relationship grew, slowly but surely, was a true delight. They worked on their issues, learned to trust each other, and enjoyed each others company.
Frank and Kiana's teamwork and dedication towards the foundation is admirable. They face the threat, deceit, and danger together, standing by each other no matter what. The way Frank connected with Kiana's daughter immediately, was just cute!
This story captured my mind, it is filled with humor, sexy banter, family connection, dangerous moments that made me hold my breath, plot twist that kept the story going, charming characters that are likable, alluring, and attractive, and romance that captured my heart

“Fine.” The terse manner in which he said the word, though, showed he was anything but fine with ending the conversation that way, along with the way his car wove in and out of traffic as though the Downtown Connector was a NASCAR speedway. “Let’s talk about the fundraiser. I saw there was going to be a silent auction of some sports memorabilia.”
Finally, something she could talk to him about that didn’t make her horny or scared. “We have a few things of my dad’s.”
“I’ll gladly donate a couple of things, too, but I was wondering if you’re willing to open it up to sports other than football.”
“What do you mean?”
The car slowed back down to the flow of traffic, and his grip loosened on the steering wheel. “Well, football’s not the only sport where kids can get hurt.”
“We focus primarily on football, but we can supply gear to all youth sports programs.”
“Exactly, so why don’t I ask around and see if I can get some other local athletes involved in the fundraiser. Dougie, for example.”
Her heart stuttered for a few beats. “You mean you could get Doug Boutry to donate something to the auction?”
“Of course I can.” He gave her a charming grin. “You’ll find I can be pretty convincing. And it wouldn’t be limited to just Doug. I can ask my teammates to provide a few things, maybe even get the team’s owners to provide a couple of seats in the suite for a game. Just tell me what I need to do, and I’ll do it.”
She wiped her damp palms on her jeans as she considered his offer. “You’d be willing to do that for me?”
“Anything to stay on your good side.” He took the Midtown exit near her office. “I’m just surprised you didn’t think of it before.”
A dozen excuses sat poised on the tip of her tongue, but it was the most honest one that came out. “I have a hard time asking people for help.”
“And yet, you asked me,” he said softly.
“Yeah, but I had some leverage over you.”
“I would’ve done it even if you hadn’t bailed me out.”
She chuckled, and the last of the cold dread fled her soul, leaving behind an odd sensation she couldn’t quite pinpoint. There was a sincerity to Frank’s words that made her wonder how much of it was the truth. “For the record, I never bailed you out.”
“You got me out of the slammer, and that’s what counts.” His grin widened. “Can you imagine what someone as good looking as me would’ve had to endure if I’d stayed in there?”
His good-natured conceit lightened the mood, and she laughed wholeheartedly. Leave it to Frank to take her from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other in a matter of minutes. But it felt good, being with him. Even after she’d revealed her shortcomings, he’d managed to make her feel better. And he showed no evidence of losing interest in her, judging by the way his gaze kept flickering her way as he zoomed through the streets.
He drove into the parking garage of her building and parked next to her car. Before she could even grab the handle of her door, he was out of his seat and jogging around the car to open it for her. “Allow me, lovely lady.”
“Still trying to get on my good side?” she quipped while smothering a grin.
“You can say that.” He took her hand to help her out, but didn’t release it right away. His eyes darkened, and his face grew uncharacteristically serious. “Kiana, if I’m going too far, please tell me.”
Her breath hitched, allowing his scent to linger in her nose long enough for her to recognize the masculine notes of leather and cedar in his cologne. “Depends on what you’re planning to do.”
“Can we try that kiss again?” He held up his hands in surrender. “I promise not to lay a finger on you.”
That kiss had been nice. At least, until he touched the back of her neck. But maybe, just maybe, she could enjoy one more. She leaned into him and pressed her lips to his.
If the earlier kiss had been raw and unrestrained, this one was gentle and cautious. And frustratingly tame. Frank allowed her to control the tempo and the heat of the kiss, responding to the demands of her tongue, but obviously holding back. She opened one eye to see his hands shaking at his sides. A whimper rose from his throat, forming a silent plea that convinced her to tear down the wall he was trying to stay behind.
She grabbed his hands and placed them on her bottom.
A muffled gasp followed, and the chains that had been holding Frank at bay vanished. He grabbed her ass with vigor and pressed her against him while he deepened the kiss. A moan rose into the still night air, but she couldn’t tell if it was from him or her. All she knew was the rising desire building between them that made her want to forget everything but him.
She allowed herself this one moment of bliss, to fall into the arms of a man who knew how to kiss her in a way that made her toes curl. A man who caressed her generous curves like she was the most desirable woman on earth. A man who made her feel safe and secure in his arms even while he tempted her to engage in the most reckless behavior she’d embraced in over two years.
But she couldn’t be reckless anymore. She was a mother, and she didn’t want to make the same mistakes her mother had. The thought of her daughter tempered her lust long enough for her to end the kiss before it got out of hand.
“Damn, Kiana,” Frank said with shuddering breaths. “You have the most luscious ass I’ve ever held.”

Two sisters who have never met are bound together by secrets, lies, and murder in this page-turning novel of love and suspense
Frantic to escape her paranoid, violent husband—a powerful New Orleans senator—Holly Ames takes her young son and flees into the dead of night. Four weeks later, prosecutor-turned-defense-attorney Meredith Rawson’s dying mother makes a shocking confession.
Now Meredith is on a journey to fulfill her mother’s last wish: That she find the half sister she never knew. Before she can begin her search, her home is ransacked and her life threatened . . . but help arrives from an unexpected source.
Haunted by his dark past, all New Orleans PD homicide detective Gage Gaynor wants is to put predators away and clean up a city riddled with crime. The hunt for a killer will bring him to Meredith’s door.
Told from the points of view of Meredith, Gage, and Holly, Cold Target takes readers into a world of power, privilege, and passion . . . where the ties that bind can be the most lethal of all.

Fantastic romantic suspense, with two stories in tandem, twisted in each others destiny. The story is so addictive I had a hard time putting it down. The crimes, murders, and 'accidents' are piling up. They all seem to be connected to Meredith's quest for finding her half sister. Gage, the former adversary, is now the only one she can trust. While trying to find the mysterious sister, staying alive, and find solutions for the many mysteries around them, they get to know each other, their feelings for each other grow, and the always present attraction gets a permanent hold of them.
Holly is on a run for her, and her son's,  life. In a situation where she has to hide from everyone, live with stolen identity, the last person she should fall for, is the sheriff of the new home town. But the sheriff is the most patient, tender, and tolerant person. He takes his time to get to know Holly and Harry, wins their trust, and protects them from anything that will harm them.
The fear, threat, and danger are constantly present in the story. It is engaging and captivating tale, where the mystery, suspense, and action is perfectly mixed with the budding romances. The sisters' lives are in peril, as well as everyone close to them, or helping them out. The political powers are doing all in their might, to keep the old secrets hidden. Surprising twists and turns moves the well written story on high speed, with an unexpected, yet satisfying ending

He thought their love was a grand slam, until his bride calls foul…

After an impulsive courthouse wedding with one of baseball’s rising stars, Melanie Webb wonders if she’s fallen victim to lust at first sight. She hardly knows Grady Hollis, the Atlanta outfielder who swooped into her Florida hometown and charmed the socks—and more!—right off her. She couldn’t resist when he proposed under the stars right on the outfield. But when the aftermath means moving to Atlanta and following him around the country for his eight-month a year travel schedule, she gets cold feet.
But Grady has never been a man to give up on a dream and Melanie is everything he ever hoped for in a woman. He knows if only he can persuade her to come along for the ride, he’ll convince her that their forever can be something special… with a love every bit as fiery as the passion.

Can't help but admire Grady, with his patience, kindness, determination, and love towards Melanie, when she takes off from the courthouse wedding, running for her life. His set off with dedication to show her that their love is true, they have a real future together, that they can make it. And he only has just a couple of days to accomplish this before the season starts.
Melanie has grown up in a dysfunctional home of alcoholism and broken dreams. She can't believe she would deserve a dream come true, someone who would put her first, love her, and willing to make a life with her. Until Grady showed her the truth about his feelings.
Hectic, stressful, a lustful couple of days follows, where anyone's relationship would have been put into a test, not to mention Grady and Melanie's. Does Grady have enough time, and patience, to convince Melanie, before it's too late?
It is a sweet, adorable story. The heartache and panic are palpable, but so are the love, caring, acceptance, and passion for each other. Lovely novella, that gives a different point of view into the 'fast and furious' happily ever after

The tabloids call her the Hit and Run Bride after reality show star Annamae Jessup walked out on Atlanta's favorite baseball player on cable television. Eager to escape her notoriety, Annamae takes a road trip to find the grandmother she’s never met and winds up discovering a whole lot more than a band of back woods relatives. There's no escape from reality TV, even in Beulah, Alabama, population 3000.

The last thing Wynn Rafferty needs in his new life is a spoiled television princess who can’t even know his real name. He’s in temporary witness protection as an apple farmer after his undercover work put his life in danger. He needs to lay low until the heat dies down from his last case— even if he sucks at growing apples as badly as he sucks at relationships. But Annamae turns his new town into a media circus, unwittingly threatening the lives of him, her and most of Beulah. Wynn is an expert at keeping the world at arm’s length, but when it comes to Annamae, the only way he can keep her safe is too keep her very, very close.

Refreshingly originally set up in this story.
The Jessup reality television series family is so dramatic, they are comically funny and very entertaining. Their daughter AnnaMae has, for the first time in her life, found her backbone, and stands up for what she wants, needs, out of her life, even though maybe going for it in a wrong way.
On her way to find out more about her real father, and escape from the disaster her life has turned out to be, she runs into Wynn, and sparks fly. The attraction is immediate, even though AnnaMae just left her fiance. Wynn is hiding as well, from the crime cartel. Together at the apple farm, they learn to trust each other, and trust the attraction between them. A hope for the possible future together starts to rise, until AnnaMae's family comes for a visit, and the chaos sets off.
The story has a fun, humorist tone, even though the danger from the cartel, or the paparazzi, finding them, is constantly present. Wynn and AnnaMae are fun together, the passion is hot, the connection is real, and they truly seem to enjoy each others company. Enjoyable, lively story

Books & Spoons review: Caught Up in You by Kim Boykin

After attending her baby sister’s destination wedding, Shelby Worthington decides she’s ready to do some husband hunting of her own. The only problem? She’s still insanely attracted to Declan Enright, her high school and college crush. He’s now a wildly successful painter who’s temporarily back in Magnolia Bay, but Declan should be Shelby’s last choice for possible husband material. He didn’t earn the reputation of runaway groom for nothing…

Declan has worked hard to make his mark on the New York art scene and has succeeded at everything he’s ever done…except love. But Declan has come back to the Bay to change that and care for his dying father, even if he’s still never forgiven Declan for leaving the family business. Shelby is determined to steer clear, but while her lips keep saying no, her heart is pounding out yes each time she and Declan are together. While she can’t deny her attraction, Shelby’s convinced that Declan’s track record means he will break her heart. Or has Declan changed for good, and made love worth the risk?

Many serious, deep issues brought up in this novella, making it easy to relate to, and lifelike. Declan had come back home, to keep an eye on his ill father. His childhood hadn't been happy, the relationship with his father was not close, but he still cared and did his duty as a son, never giving in to his father' ornery behavior.
Declan also had run away from the altar three times, and making everyone, including himself,  question his ability to love and commit.
Shelby has had a crush on Declan as long as they had known each other. She's taking care of her sister, who left her husband during their honeymoon, because of fertility issues, and is now living with her. The sisters have lost their parents at a young age, and all the issues in their lives recently made them  grieve for them anew.
It is an interesting, and a sweet story. I liked how the relationship between Declan and his father, developed, and what role Shelby played in it. I wish there would have more about the interaction between people, especially between Declan and Shelby. Because even though they had been friends a long time ago, time had passed, and they needed to get to know each other better. I felt like the story was just starting, when it already ended. I really would have loved to see more, got deeper into the story, cause there was so much potential for an amazing tale here

Her best protection came from an unlikely bodyguard

When secrets leak from The Gates, the hunt is on for a mole. All evidence points to Anson Daughtry, who knows their security inside and out. Only coworker Ginny Coltrane can help clear his name, but she's caught in the middle of a turf war between militants in the Smoky Mountains. More at ease behind a computer than with a gun, Anson makes for an unlikely bodyguard. But hunkering down in the Tennessee foothills, turns out Ginny's not exactly the "need to be protected" type. Still, with someone stalking their every move, Anson isn't about to let her out of his sight. Or, if he gets his way, out of his arms.

I absolutely fell in love with Anson! What a geek, easy going, protective, surprising alpha hero, he turned out to be. He melts when Ginny just smiles, and loses all his super smarts when she comes near. This loyal, caring, protector for Ginny, saves her again and again, and it's just impossible not to like him. Ginny is smart, savvy, and caring person, taking care of her alcoholic brother, while working for the Gate. Now in more trouble than she ever could have dreamed of. The feelings between Anson and Ginny grow, even though it does seem that Anson falls first and fast, but Ginny is not far behind. They are super cute together, the story is clean, but their sensual thoughts heat up the scenes several times.
The suspense is tense. They know someone at the Gate is a mole, and  fingers are pointing to one after the other, not easing the situation at all. Ginny brother, Danny, is somehow messed up in all of the trouble, and now in danger of his life. And he managed to bring the danger to Ginny as well.
The story is fast paced, and even though a stand alone novel, having been read the previous books in the series helps to see the bigger picture of things happening at the Gate. Truly enjoyable suspense with unexpected hero and heroine

He made her crazy. In every way imaginable...
Since her partner's death, Jodi Israel has been perfectly happy playing Q to everyone else's Bond. Electronics and machines are safer - and they are a lot easier to deal with. Unfortunately, she's stuck with TRAIT's newest recruit, an infuriating, arrogant alpha-male who plays by his own rules...and is hot enough to send electric voltage through all of Jodi's circuitry.

Finn Danby heeds his instincts, even though it's cost him his job on more than one occasion. The moment he sees Jodi's fiery hair and uncanny engineering abilities, Finn's instinct takes over...and it's all libido. Now they're working together to protect the unstable daughter of a high-profile politician - and the sparks are flying. Both in and out of the bedroom. But when all hell breaks loose, Jodi and Finn just may find themselves alone…and unemployed.

Explosive action, hot chemistry between the characters, and mystery to be solved that involves powerful political players, are the makings of a book that I had a hard time putting down.
Jodi is independent and strong minded woman, with sass and attitude, and mega skill in technology. She is the red haired geek in the garage, making everyone's operations go smoothly.
Finn is an arrogant, pompous, skillful out-of-the-box thinker, who seems to be misunderstood at every step of his life. When they meet the first time, the irritation and anger set off, as well as the electrifying chemistry.
While training to go on the field together as partners is not easy, trouble free, or even team work, their lustful thoughts of each other are so animalistic, they are fun, and made me laugh out loud. They make the perfect couple, as soon as they stop playing power games, and trust each other enough to open up, let go of the insecurities and not misunderstand everything the other one does.
The hunt for the truth, for the people after Jodi, and TRAIT, is intense, full of twists and turns that kept the story moving fast. From the acknowledgments I saw that this story was first written as a novella, and then into a full length novel. With the action and solution to the crimes, it could have gone even deeper into the story. The ending felt a bit like it was wrapped up too soon.
I absolutely loved the author's voice. The inner thoughts of the characters were full of humor and irony, several times I realized my own thoughts going on the same path as the cast of characters, and that doesn't happen to me ever! I realize that this is a book three in a series, that I haven't read the previous books of, but that didn't take away the enjoyment of the story at all

The new SBG novel from the author of Exchange of Fire.

When her secretly filmed tryst shows up on the internet, Michelle Alger goes on the run. She has no choice. Not only was her one-night stand the son of a US senator, but he’s been murdered—and she’s the number one suspect. With both the senator and an avenging drug lord on her trail, her life is in danger. There’s only man she can trust. He saved her once, but will he still be her hero six years later?

Captain Jeremy Malone and the rest of Delta Squad have the senator’s order: find the mystery woman who killed my son. But to Jeremy, she’s no mystery. Six years ago his team of Green Berets rescued her from the torturous clutches of a Colombian cartel, and he’s never forgotten her. His personal and covert mission: find Michelle before anyone else. When he and Michelle do meet again, the sparks are explosive and consuming. They’re also dangerous as hell.

Because with each new bit of evidence, Jeremy suspects that Michelle’s innocence may be a ruse—a beautiful trap set by a woman who has even more secrets yet to bare.

Fantastic romantic suspense, fast paced action and really adorable couple, Jeremy and Michelle, trying to find a way to have a future and happiness with each other.
That road is not easy, but the connection they have is so hot, real, and passionate, it just left me breathless. They both have their issues, they have their history, and to work on those, while running for their lives, makes the story intense. Add to that the constant danger, and you have a story that is hard to put down.
The book is part of a series, and I wish I had read the previous book before, the plentiful of characters would have been more familiar, and there were several comments on the previous events, that would have made more sense. Just saying you could get more out of the story by reading them in order.
Also, all the characters have their say, on the other words, their point of view in the story. This certainly can make a reader feel like they are living the moments with the team, but it can also spread the story so wide open, it comes to exhausting to keep up with it all. I usually like to just focus on one couple at the time, not bits and pieces of many developing relationships in different stages, as the case was here.
But mostly I truly enjoyed the story, the action, the absolutely heartrendingly  beautiful scenes between Jeremy and Michelle, and the team, that it is hilarious in its own weird, dysfunctional way.

IT’S ABOUT TO GET HOT IN THE JUNGLE

Rescuing a kidnapped aid worker from St. Isidore’s dangerous rebels is just another day at work for former pararescueman Dan Molina. But his mission falls apart when the woman—who once shattered his heart—refuses to leave the island.

Alexa Alyssandratos can’t return to her life as a nurse on the hurricane-ravaged Caribbean island, but she won't leave until she’s certain the orphans she cared for—especially one sick little girl—are safe from the rebels. Denied their ransom, a would-be dictator and his soldiers are hunting Alexa, and Dan is the only person who can protect her. Old passions reignite as she and Dan race to save the children before they disappear forever.

I loved this story, I loved every single word of it. It took me for an emotional roll-a-coaster, from sheer happiness, to heartbreak, to fear, panic, anxiety and concern, to sorrow and suffering...
The action is non stop, with new surprises behind every turn, that kept me on my toes, and biting my fingernails. There's no place that is safe, there's few people whom they can trust, they are against an army, with what at times feels like with their bare hands, and the fight is fierce. Fight to survive, stay alive, keep the others alive, without major injuries, it is intense.
Alexa is making amends, for things that happened in her past, that she cannot forgive herself, or let herself enjoy life, or accept happiness. Cause she does not deserve it.  She works fearlessly at the clinic, taking care of everyone, saving as many lives as she possible can. Three years ago, she fell in love, but had to walk away from the man she still carries in her heart, because where she was, and is, in her life, with her atonement of her past mistakes. Now that man is the one who can save her, save her from the certain death, give her her life back.
Dan is a true hero, saving lives is what he lives for. He is honorable, kind, caring, and protective, a true warrior, with a tender heart. He has his past demons, but nothing has ever cut as deep as loosing the one woman he loved. The mistakes he made after the heartbreak cost him dearly, and now as he is working to get on with his life, he is called for a rescue mission, to save Alexa.
While on the mission Dan and Alexa has to face their past, find a way to trust again, and a way to be truly honest with each other. The connection they have is scorching hot, the passion is palpable. But there's so much more between them than just passion, and the emotional journey they have to take while on the run, is so touching, tender, and wistful, it melted my heart.
The rescue mission does not go as planned, or as I presumed. The intensity of the story keeps hold from the page one to the end. Dan and Alexa works on their issues hard, they humble themselves, let go of foolish pride, and make compromises, to try to make a future together. An amazing romantic suspense story with a military twist, that left me breathless. I will be looking for more books in this series in the future
