He thrived as a Navy SEAL... Can he survive as a spy?
Danny Connolly fell off the radar, presumed killed in action during a mission with his SEAL team. No one he trusts knows he was rescued by Unknown Identities, a covert agency that literally remade him to fit their specific agenda. Special Agent Chloe Spencer has been tasked with unraveling an intel leak within a company working on cutting edge technology with civilian and military applications. Unfortunately, every minor lead is a dead end. Danny’s new skills empowered him to compromise the company undetected, but Chloe's persistence has made her a target. Unable to accept his orders to kill her, he chooses to save her instead, putting them both on the wrong end of a lethal equation.
Another action and adrenaline packed story of the warriors rescued from the Unknown Identities with the help of the Brotherhood Protectors.
Danny Connolly has known for some time that UI has been manipulating him and other soldiers for their own benefit. Quietly, he has rebelled against them, trying to lose their hold on him, while using his super-enhanced hearing and ability to pick radiowaves, an aptitude that UI gave him. His latest project, to gather information and keep eye on Special Agent Chloe Spencer has turned into a deadly mission, and Danny knows, if he is going to act against the UI, it is now or never. The unexpected help he gets, to convince Chloe to follow him, changes Danny's life and future forever, giving him possibilities and opportunities he didn't dare to dream about. Chloe is a smart, capable and able heroine of the tale. She is not afraid to act and step into the battle when needed, she knows when to listen and when to lead, she can see the bigger picture and doesn't act hastily. Danny had lost his hope to ever have a so-called normal life again. His memory of the past is back, he knows what the UI is doing is wrong, he knows he is being used, and he is aware how impossible it would be to escape the claws of the organization having a tight hold on him and others like him. But that simmer of hope has kept him going. The attraction and romance building between Danny and Chloe, and the timeline of it are well done, giving it more foundation and thus more believability. The connection between them is strong, the passion awakening a tangible force. The action is deadly and fierce, going directly to the heart of the organization, accomplishing more harm and destruction than any attack before. It is fascinating to see the team work together, and how far each of them has come as the series continues. Especially seeing the leaders of the pack, John and Amelia, finding their home, a safe place to land on, giving them a chance of a future while nesting and making a family, was heartwarming. While the main story continues with each installment of the series, the author has built each novella so that it is easy to follow the storyline and for new readers to jump in, even in a middle of the series, without it getting to be repetitive to readers following from the beginning. Each new book is packed with suspense and action, a new couple finding soulmates, and visiting with the old friends from the previous books. An entertaining and mesmerising tale of vigorous and potent action and suspense with technology and abilities that gives you the chills, a sweet and alluring romance between smart, honorable, and charming characters that make you smile and sigh, with a refreshingly original storytelling that keeps you captivated. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

The small mountain town of Blue Ridge Valley is the home of three best friends, Jenny, Autumn, and Savannah. Each woman believes she has her life perfectly planned, but there is a saying in the mountains… If everything is coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane. In Just Jenny, Jenny Nance has a plan — save enough money to tour the world. The desire to traipse the globe is a dream she once shared with her twin sister. Jenny made a deathbed promise to her sister that she would go to all the places they had fantasized visiting together. Nothing will entice her to break her vow to Natalie, not even the sexy new Blue Ridge Valley police chief... No matter how attracted she is to him. Dylan Conrad left the Chicago Police Department to accept the position as Chief of Police in Blue Ridge Valley. Burned out and haunted by a tragedy of his own, he needs to get away from the memories tormenting him. He’s hoping to find peace in the small mountain town, but the quirky residents, an infamous moonshiner, an errant prized bull, and a feisty redhead by the name of Jenny weren’t quite what he had in mind. With likable, adorable, yet realistic characters in a small Blue Ridge town setting, Sandra Owens opens the new series, Blue Ridge Valley, with an entertaining tale of Jenny Nance, the local, lovable, gorgeous, ginger bartender with wanderlust, and Dylan Conrad, the widowed, rich, and handsome new chief of police from Chicago. Jenny and Dylan connect from the first moment they meet. The attraction is mutual - they click, they bond, they get each other. And they learn to communicate, share the deepest darkest secrets and desires of their hearts and minds, while Jenny is showing Dylan the town and helping him to get to know the people living there. The goal is to keep the relationship status as a temporary fling, until Jenny's departure, but the murky feels and passion don't let them go that easily. That's what I liked the most about this story, the hard things the characters were willing to do, the talks they had, to be able to move on, to grow, and learn from the past. The story is told in the dual first person POV, and we get to know the thoughts and emotions swirling in the minds of the protagonists. The small town at the Appalachian is endearing and the images the author creates are vivid and fresh, neighboring. The ins and outs of the police department come very familiar from Dylan's point of view, at the same time giving a good look at the lives and the people living in the Blue Ridge Valley, alluring the mind of a reader to engage and be intrigued by books to come in the series. While this story is well written with an enticing storyline and endearing characters, just in my opinion, the first person POV, for me it lost some of the intensity and emotional angst and tension that could have been there, and at times it made the story move forward with a bit of a slow tempo as the characters get stuck with their thoughts as their reasoning go in circles. I enjoyed the gorgeous, pleasantly likeable and passionate yet sweet characters introduced in Just Jenny, and the small town living in the Blue Ridge Valley. The setting of the series is beguiling, and I am fascinated and invested to see how the series will develop. ~ Four Spoons
Sometimes what you find isn’t what you were searching for Beau Petty has been searching his whole life. Searching for a place that fills all the empty spaces in him. Searching for a way to tame the restlessness. Searching for answers to the secret he’s never stopped trying to solve. What he wasn’t searching for was a woman to claim all of him, but when Cora Silvera walks back into his life, he’s ready to search out all the ways he can make her his. Cora has spent her life as the family nurturer, taking care of others. But now she’s ready to pass that job on to someone else. It’s time to make some changes and live for herself. It’s in that moment that her former teenage crush reappears and the draw and the heat of their instant connection is like nothing either of them has experienced. He craves being around her. She accepts him, dark corners and all. Beau thinks Cora’s had enough drama in her life. He wants to protect her from the secrets of his past, even if it means holding back the last pieces of himself. But Cora is no pushover and she means to claim all those pieces. WELL OVER SIX FEET of hot-ass ginger celebrity chef, former model and childhood poster boy for a cult—and most notably one of her first really hard crushes—Beau Petty had aged really, really well. He had the kind of face that would only get better as he aged. At seventy-five, he’d still be searingly hot because it wasn’t just that he was chiseled and taut and broad shouldered, his attitude seemed to pump out confident alpha male. He’d been gorgeous when she’d been sixteen and he twenty-one or -two, but seventeen years later, he was magnetic and intense on a whole new level. It made her heart skip a little just looking at him. Cora had to lock her knees when his gaze flicked from Rachel over to her and his expression melted from surprise into pleasure as he dried his hands on a towel and headed toward her. And then he hugged her and holy wow it was better than a doughnut. He smelled good and was big and hard and, wow, he was hugging her and when he stepped back he said her name. “Cora.” It seemed as if the word echoed through her, plucked her like a musical note. Wow. “It’s really good to see you,” he said as he stepped back and she had to crane her neck to look up, and up, into his face. “What an unexpected surprise,” Cora told him. “We have some catching up to do.” The lines around his eyes begged for a kiss. “You guys know each other? I mean, duh. Obviously as you just said her name and there was a hug and stuff.” Maybe smiled brightly, fishing for details in her cheerful, relentless way. “First champagne and introductions, and then we will hear that story,” Gregori said, interrupting Maybe’s nosiness long enough to hand out glasses.
Tempted by the Viscount
by Sofie Darling
Genre: Historical Romance
Pub Date: June 27th, 2018
London, April 1825
Lord Jakob Radclyffe left his past behind in the Far East. Or so he thinks until a ruthless thief surfaces in London, threatening to ruin his daughter’s reputation. With the clock ticking, Jake needs the scandalous Lady Olivia Montfort’s connections in the art world to protect his daughter’s future.
Olivia, too, has a past she’d like to escape. By purchasing her very own Mayfair townhouse, she’ll be able to start a new life independent from all men. There’s one problem: she needs a powerful man’s name to do so. The Viscount St. Alban is the perfect name.
A bargain is struck.
What Olivia doesn’t anticipate is the temptation of the viscount. The undeniable spark of awareness that races between them undermines her vow to leave love behind. Soon, she has no choice but to rid her system of Jake by surrendering to her craving for a single scorching encounter.
But is once enough? Sometimes once only stokes the flame of desire higher and hotter. And sometimes once is all the heart needs to risk all and follow a mad passion wherever it may lead.
“Am I late?” he asked in a tone that didn’t sound as concerned as his words might have suggested.
“Yes,” she replied, sounding distressingly like Lucy on a petulant day. “My apologies,” he said on a shallow bow, even as his mouth, that talented, efficient mouth of his, maintained its familiar firm line. “No need for apologies, my lord. In fact, your tardiness is promising evidence that you are settling into the viscountcy quite well.” She liked the way his eyes narrowed at her stern tone, a tone she couldn’t help borrowing from Mrs. Bloomquist. “It is the first rule of the nobility. Everyone can wait.” “Then my apologies for not having made you wait longer.” A begrudging smile found its way to her lips. “Now for the second rule of the nobility.” She allowed a beat to pass. A flash of pleasure coursed through her at the very idea that she could hold this glorious man in suspense. It wasn’t every woman who could boast that particular thrill. “Never apologize.” He stepped forward, halving the distance between them, and took another bow. “Again, my apologies.” His gaze pinned her in place, and, like that, the power of the moment shifted to him. Oh, how an unmanageable part of her wanted him to use it. This felt dangerously like flirting. Was she flirting? She was. In the presence of the tease playing about his eyes and mouth, she couldn’t seem to help herself. She tried clearing her throat, hoping to clear her head in the process. He should be more careful with that smile. It could give a woman ideas.
Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every book she could get her hands on. Once she realized that she was no longer satisfied with simply reading the books she loved, that she must write them, too, she decided to finish her degree and embark on a writing career. Mr. Darling and the boys gave her their wholehearted blessing.
When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, she runs a marathon in a different state every year, visits crumbling medieval castles whenever she gets a chance, and enjoys a slightly codependent relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

Masterful, mysterious, and completely ruthless, Jamin “Angel” Agassi joined the Black Knights Inc. after a mission-gone-wrong forced him to undergo extensive plastic surgery and change his name.
He's going to bring down the world's worst crime syndicate, and hopefully keep Sonya Butler, a love from his past, from discovering who he really is... When a dark-eyed stranger gets caught up in Sonya’s latest mission, she starts to question all her hard-won instincts. Something about Angel tells her he's more than he seems, and sometimes, when she least expects it, he reminds her of a man she used to know. As the bullets fly, she realizes that in love and war nothing is ever what it seems...
I felt like an end of an era is here as I finished the twelfth and last installment of Black Knights Inc. series. Somehow it is hard to imagine not to be waiting for the next installment, to see what Ozzie comes up with next, to hear Boss and Becky banter, to witness these loyal, honorable, badass women and men serve their country, uphold the law, and fall completely, utterly, blissfully in love with their soulmates while at it. Hell On Wheels, the book one, was one of the first books I reviewed when I started Books & Spoons four years ago. I binge-read the first half of the series over my vacation that summer and was hooked on the world the author created.
I noticed that I lingered with Built To Last, I didn't want to rush and finish it, because I knew it was going to be an emotional goodbye for me. Thankfully, the author created such an ending that it left me smiling, feeling good about the direction the gang's life was going to, with the knowledge that Black Knights Inc. is a series I will be re-visiting, re-reading, in the future. Julie Ann Walker, I just want to put it in writing, something I haven't done before but feel compelled to do now - thank you. For the fun, excitement, passion, turmoil, drama, and joy this series has brought to me (and thousands of other readers). Stories that provide escape, thrills, and entertainment when we need it, characters that become friends over the years, the protagonists that you actually think about off and on as time goes by, these kinds of books save and enrich lives, at least mine. An enthralling, exciting, and emotional ending to the epic series. We get not one but two happily ever after's - if not a dozen - with lots of intense suspense, up close and deadly battle, drama, trouble, and turbulent relationships. But also we get to witness the kind of soulmates that have a lasting connection that holds despite the circumstances or years apart, forgiveness and redemption, new chances and benediction, a fervent devotion that took my breath away. Angel has been an intriguing character in the series for some time now. He has been like a shadow coming and going in the dangerous situations in the previous books, spiking up my curiosity about him, his past, who he is now, and what had brought him into the folder of the BKI. His story turned out to be so much more complex and rough around the edges than I imagined. Years of living and existing under different covers and made up personalities have shaped him to be the person he is today. But those years have not shaved off his basic loyalty, dignity, honor, the need to protect and serve, or the love he has for Sonya Butler. Sonya has mourned for the loss of the love of her life for ten years. While grieving and trying to move on, she has excelled on her career at the Interpol, always standing up for the law, rules, and regulations. So it is a wonder what she is doing working for and with the dangerous crime lord, in what seems like a very close relationship. While Ace and Rusty both admit the palpable attraction they have for each other, Rusty is not ready to come out of the closet and tell his parents about being gay. The strain from the rejection, from the burning, forbidden desire, from the fear and hurt of having himself or his feelings shunned takes a toll on both Ace and Rusty, as well as the team working with them. It comes to a near-death situation until these two brave warriors dare to face the deeper emotions and desires of their hearts. The secrets, the layers of deception, the danger, the deadly force of the attacks, and the ruthlessness of the villain gave not only deeper depths to the tale but also searing, fierce tension. Add to that the two parallel love stories, with jilted hearts, hurt feelings, fear of acceptance, and rejection, and the knowledge that this will be the finale, the crescendo of the epic series, and I was on pins and needles through the tale. If you want to binge-read an intense romantic suspense series with deadly danger in fierce, hazardous international situations, that is mixed with ardent, heartfelt, passion-filled romance, spiced up with quirky humor, fun banter, held together by tight teamwork, a large family of hearts that would do anything to each other, to protect each other, and the country they serve, Black Knights Inc. will definitely deliver. Powerful, unforgettable, unputdownable saga of legendary warriors, of their lives, loves, and battles for justice ~ Five Spoons

And if Aulay is not her husband, can she trust the desire flaring in his eyes, or his promise to defend her with his life?
“Did I do something to anger you?” Jetta asked with a frown.
His eyebrows rose at the question. “Nay. What would make ye think that?” “Because you have not kissed nor touched me again since then. I thought either you thought I did not want you to, or that I had somehow angered you, or that you simply tired of me and did not want me anymore because of my shorn head and my being too thin.” “Oh, lass,” Aulay said softly, cupping her cheek with his hand. “Ye’ve no’ angered me, and I am definitely no’ tired o’ ye. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Every minute I am with ye I have to fight no’ to kiss and touch ye,” he admitted, his eyes dropping to her mouth and his face moving closer. “Truly?” Jetta whispered uncertainly. “Aye, truly.” Tour Wide GiveawayTo celebrate the release of THE HIGHLANDER’S PROMISE by Lynsay Sands, we’re giving away one paperback set (6 books in total) of THE HIGHLANDER SERIES! Blackhawk Security Elite Protection Services-- Their business is your safety But not hers. Former SEAL Sullivan Bishop refuses to work for Jane Reise. The JAG Corps prosecutor is hard core—and he never stopped blaming her for his brother’s death. But Blackhawk is Jane’s only hope in fending off a frightening stalker, and she’ll blackmail Sullivan to get it. Forced into her service, he soon realizes he was wrong about Jane. As bullets fly, Sullivan knows he’ll risk his life—and heart—to save her. Severe, savage, and sharp suspense, the kind of creepy stalking where I can feel the eyes on me, giving the chills, the kind of up close and personal action that scared the daylights outta me. No one is safe from the battle or from getting wounded, hurt, or marred, not even the protagonists. The fight for survival is acute, you can taste the fear, you can hear the war cries, the images the author creates are vivid and toe-curling frightening. There are no guarantees of anyone surviving the hostile attacks towards the heroine. Jane Reise is one capable, kick-ass heroine. She is an army captain, a JAG lawyer, she knows her guns, she is familiar with combat moves, and she is not afraid to step into a line of fire or risk her life to save another. She is desperate to get help, to get intel, to get protection from the ruthless stalker, and desperate times calls desperate measures, even blackmail. I loved how Sullivan Bishop and Jane were on such equal footing after the rocky start. The mutual respect, the mutual recognition of each others capabilities, and even the attraction they have for each other, they were comparable, they were a perfect match for each other, there was a tangible harmony between them, that made the connection between them unique, true, and believable. Sullivan and Jane together were so hot together they could have melted the snow in the Alaskan winter, yet their most private moments happen behind the closed doors. This story took my breath away. The non-stop thrilling, brutal action had me on the edge, and the delightfully dreamy, ardent love story developing between Jane and Sullivan had me sighing with content. There's such a perfect balance between the relentless conflict and the wonderment of falling in love, between the tragedy and drama of Sullivan's family and the tight bond and teamwork, even the light banter, between him and his troops. I relished reading this story, it gave the kind of gratification that only a well written and plotted, smoothly flowing tale can give, it's the kind of explosive romantic suspense that I can't get enough of. ~ Five Spoons!

Prologue
The Past The three were woven together long before they were aware, strands of spun, silken steel that could not be separated—not even when their fate insisted upon it. Brothers, born on the same day, in the same hour, at the same minute to different women. The high-priced courtesan. The seamstress. The soldier’s widow. Born on the same day, in the same hour, at the same minute to the same man. The duke, their father, whose arrogance and cruelty fate would punish without hesitation, stealing from him the only thing he wanted that his money and power could not buy—an heir. It is the Ides of March the seers warn of, with its promise of betrayal and vengeance, of shifting fortune and inalienable providence. But for this sire—who was never more than that, never close to father—it was the Ides of June that would be his ruin. Because on that same day, in that same hour, at that same minute, there was a fourth child, born to a fourth woman. To a duchess. And it was this birth—the birth all the world thought legitimate—that the duke attended, even as he knew the son who was to be his heir in name and fortune and future was not his own and still, somehow, was his only hope. Except she was a daughter. And with her first breath, she thieved future from them all, as powerful in her infancy as she would become in her womanhood. But hers is a story for another time. This story begins with the boys. Tour Wide GiveawayTo celebrate the release of WICKED AND THE WALLFLOWER by Sarah MacLean, we're giving away two $10 Amazon gift cards!

In Gold Valley, Oregon, love might be hiding in plain sight… Some things are too perfect to mess with. Bennett Dodge’s relationship with Kaylee Capshaw is one of them. They work together at their veterinary clinic and have been best friends for years. When Bennett’s world is rocked by the appearance of a son he didn’t know he had, he needs Kaylee more than ever. And he doesn’t want anything else to change. But then Kaylee kisses him, and nothing will ever be the same… Kaylee’s done her best to keep her feelings for the man she’s loved since high school hidden away, but one unguarded moment changes everything, and now there’s no more denying the chemistry that burns between them. But the explosion of desire changes all the rules, and what’s left could destroy their bond—or bring them to a love that’s deeper than she ever imagined… I do not know what could have made me love the story more than I do, it was so perfectly emotional, with just the right amount of angst, turmoil, drama mixed with sweet, sexy, and spicy. I was on an emotional edge throughout the tale, with a serious book-hangover afterword, wanting to linger in the world the author had created. While the story was entertaining and engaging, it was also meaningful and thought-provoking, it is a story that in the past couple of days has kept popping into my mind at the most unexpected moments. Bennett Dodge and Kaylee Capshaw caught my attention when they were first mentioned in Olivia's story. The friendship, connection between them is so natural, authentic, and real, it's like they truly were two parts of a whole. Bennett is an organized planner. He needs to keep control of his life by planning everything ahead and stick to it, to avoid the pain, to not feel the uncontrollable turmoil, to be able to carry the responsibilities in his life. He is a loyal, reliable, smart, and caring man. The loss of his mother at the young age has shaped him to be the man he is, with the guidance of his loving father and the middle child's need to avoid to bring drama and turbulence to his parent's life. There's just one secret he has kept from a young age, and that secret has just exploded to his face. From the early age on, Kaylee's parents neglected her and made her very aware of the fact that she was not wanted, loved, cared for, or cherished. She learned to rely only on her self, not to trust her feelings, to keep a safe distance from any deeper involvements, and love only from the afar. What rescued Kaylee was the loving friendship she had with Bennett, and the open arms his family welcomed her into their fold. But the scars of the careless words and her parent's oversight of her are deeper than Kaylee realized. With all the strife and trouble in Bennett's life and the new, burning physical attraction between her and her best friend, Kaylee has to deal with the painful wounds of her past to be able to move on and truly live and embrace the new possibilities coming to her way. I loved every moment of the journey Bennett and Kaylee were on, the bumps in the road, the ardent passion building up between them, the banter, the true friendship they had that was the foundation of their relationship. I loved the support they gave to each other, the trust, the honesty, the way they could rely on each other. They were a unit from the start, from the very first moment they met as children, and there was nothing that was going to break that bond they had built between them if they were willing and able to do the work and take the leap into a romantic love. A poignant, captivating, and touching story that just burst my heart and mind with all the feels, emotions, and passion soaring off the pages. From heartrending neglect of children and pain of a loss of a loved one to a heartfelt and delightfully ravishing love story between the best friends, with meddling family and adorable four-legged creatures all around, Untamed Cowboy conquered my heart and mind. ~ Five Spoons

She went to bed a single mom of triplets... And woke up married! Blame it on the spiked punch, or on the legend of Wedlock Creek Wedding Chapel. But Norah Ingalls is now Detective Reed Barelli's wife. The lawman certainly didn't intend to marry the gorgeous mom of three infant babies; an instant family wasn't in his plans. Yet just walking away was unimaginable. In this brand-new The Wyoming Multiples romance, marriage is just the beginning... A wonderfully encouraging, fun and entertaining, adorable and ardent story about a marriage of accident while trying to tackle life, love, and multiple children. This story had me smiling big throughout it while reading, it has such a positive, heartening, supportive, hopeful tune and atmosphere. It is all about how it takes a village to raise a child, not to mention multiples, and it shows by example how we, as women and people in general, should build up each other, support, and offer a helping hand when needed. Norah Ingalls and Reed Barelli have both been disappointed in love, and not looking for a relationship, not to mention to get married. But things happen with a spiked punch, and they have to figure out what they want in life to deal with the consequences. Norah is such a survival, strong, tough, capable woman. She is not perfect, she does feel at times overwhelmed, who wouldn't with three seven-month-old babies, but she is doing it, she is doing it well, with the help of family and friends. Reed is a dream man, even with his apprehension towards romance and love. He has a strong sense of responsibility, he is protective, kind, loves babies, and is not afraid of a dirty diaper. The sizzling connection between Norah and Reed, the palpable attraction, the obvious feelings they have for each other, and how they try to avoid them and deny them while on the bumpy road to the acceptance and embracing the feels, the desires, the dreams of the future is heartfelt while enjoyable, enticing, and so alluring... A true feel-good story that made me smile and gave me all those warm and fuzzy feels inside. A perfect summer reading material, for sure! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

The Omega Sector is vigorously hunting for the mole whos aid to Damien Freihof, the man determined to hurt, damage, and ultimately eliminate the Omega Sector, is putting everyone's lives in danger. To get the information they need, Omega has to get one of the best hackers there is, and that is where Hayley Green's name comes up. Thankfully, Haley is out of prison now, but will she help Omega Sector, considering it was Omega special agent Cain Bennett, her then-boyfriend, who arrested her and sent her to the prison in the first place. This story has two-fold suspense going on, that brings tension, action, and severe threat to Haley and her loved ones. Dangerous, high-powered players feel the threat of Hayley's abilities to find well-hidden information on the darkness of the web and don't shy away from taking lives to keep their lucrative, illegal business going. Hayley is desperate to right the wrongs she did in the past, she had her reasons, but she crossed some lines that never can be erased. Helping Omega will aid her financially, but also be an atonement for her prior actions. Cain has always walked the straight line, he believes there are rules, laws, and regulations for a reason, and they are set to be followed. He knows he is not completely innocent, he knows his previous actions with Hayley doesn't muster praise, but he needs her help, desperately. And sometimes desperation makes you act in a way you wouldn't otherwise. Even though there is chemistry between Hayley and Cain, the kind of connection that comes from the long history between them, there is a lot of work that needs to be done for any kind of trust to be formed. Cain drove me crazy at times with his pompous attitude. The story got me emotionally involved from the very start, I might have yelled at Cain on occasion while reading it. I admired Hayley's ability for forgiveness, her big heart, and survival instincts. With complex characters, with menace and peril all around them, the race to stay alive, to find the mole, and capture the people running havoc on Hayley's life keeps the tale hopping, moving on a fast pace as their hustle to get answers and scramble to stay alive. An important piece of a puzzle in the hunt for Damien Freihof and his aiding mole at Omega. An entertaining, rapidly moving, poignant, and intense tale ~ Four Spoons
Life is meant to be savored, but that's not easy with no family, limited prospects and a past you'd rather not talk about. Still, Callie Smith doesn't know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister--Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise twelve-year-old.
Callie doesn't love being alone, but at least it's safe. Despite her trepidation, she moves into the grand family home with her siblings and grandfather on the shores of Lake Washington, hoping just maybe this will be the start of a whole new life. But starting over can be messy. Callie and Keira fit in with each other, but not with their posh new lifestyle, leaving Malcolm feeling like the odd man out in his own home. He was clever enough to turn a sleepy Seattle mail-order food catalog into an online gourmet powerhouse, yet he can't figure out how to help his new sisters feel secure. Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine and a whole lot of love. But love isn't Malcolm's strong suit... until a beautiful barista teaches him that an open heart, like the family table, can always make room for more. In this emotional, funny and heartfelt story, Susan Mallery masterfully explores the definition of a modern family--blended by surprise, not by choice--and how those complicated relationships can add unexpected richness to life.
“Hello, Grandfather.”
“Malcolm, they still warn you when I’m coming, eh? What is everyone so afraid of? I’m an old man who no longer runs the company. I’m a pussycat without claws.” “I think you’re more bobcat than house cat.” His grandfather grinned. “A bobcat? I like that.” Even though they’d seen each other at breakfast that morning, they hugged. Alberto was a toucher. Thank goodness he’d retired before the new standards for sexual harassment had come into law, Malcolm thought. Not that his straight-as-an-arrow grandfather would ever make a pass at anyone, but he would hug and occasionally clasp hands with whomever he was talking to—regardless of gender. While most of the employees understood that was just his way, a few were less accommodating. “I saw the new catalog,” Alberto said as they walked toward Malcolm’s office. Malcolm held in a groan. Catalog releases were always stressful. Would the customers respond favorably? Would the new products be successful? Would his grandfather want to know why they were offering a line of gluten-free pasta? “Very nice,” his grandfather continued. “I don’t agree with the macarons but I understand they’re very popular and have an excellent profit margin. You have to keep up with the times.” “We do.” They walked into Malcolm’s office. The huge space had been Alberto’s, before the old man had retired. Malcolm had replaced the old-fashioned wood paneling and the carpeting but otherwise had kept the room much the same. The desk and credenza, monstrosities from the 1970s, were a reminder of the heritage inherent in the company and Malcolm liked that. They passed by the desk and made their way to the seating area at the far end of his office. Malcolm preferred to use a conference room when he had a meeting, but he kept the sofas for the same reason he kept the desk—because they belonged. Malcolm’s assistant walked in with a tray. She smiled at them both, set the tray on the coffee table and left. His grandfather picked up one of the two mugs of steaming black coffee, along with a piece of biscotti. After dipping the latter in his mug, he said, “I found her.” Resignation, irritation and inevitability battled for dominance. Malcolm realized it didn’t much matter which won—it wasn’t as if he was going to change his grandfather’s mind about any of it. To Alberto, family was everything. A trait to be admired, even if it occasionally made everyone’s life more complicated. About the time Alberto had decided to cut out the middleman and sell his food directly to the public, through a mail-order catalog, he’d met, fallen in love with and married the pretty Irish girl who lived next door and they’d had one son—Jerry. Alberto’s Alfresco had been successful, with steady but modest growth. Jerry had little interest in managing the company, a disappointment to both his parents. Instead he’d taken over corporate sales, traveling all over the country. He’d never married, but he had managed to father a few children. Three, to be precise, all by different mothers. When Malcolm had been twelve, his mother had brought him from Portland, Oregon, to Seattle and had demanded to speak with Alberto. She’d presented Malcolm as Jerry’s son. Alberto had taken one look at Malcolm and had smiled, even as tears had filled his eyes. Malcolm was, he declared, the exact image of his late wife. Jerry had been more reticent, insisting on a DNA test, which had proved positive. Within the week, both Malcolm and his mother were living in Alberto’s huge house. Malcolm remembered how confused he’d been at the time. He’d been ripped from the only home he’d ever known and moved to Seattle. His grandfather had been adoring, his father indifferent, and Malcolm had taken a long time to accept that the large house by the lake was his home. Back then he’d been unable to figure out why his mother had suddenly decided to change everything and for the longest time she wouldn’t say. When she finally confessed she was sick and dying, he’d been forced to accept there was no going back. It would never be just him and his mom ever again. When she’d died, Alberto had stepped in to take care of him. Jerry had remained indifferent—something Malcolm had come to terms with eventually. Then two years ago, Jerry had died leaving—everyone had presumed—only one child. A few months ago, Alberto had finally brought himself to go through his son’s belongings. There he’d found proof of two additional children—daughters. Keira, a twelve-year-old living in foster care in Los Angeles, had been easily located and moved into the house six weeks before, but an older daughter, Callie, had been more difficult to find. Until now, apparently. Malcolm gave in to the inevitable and asked, “Where is she?” “Texas. Houston. She’s twenty-six.” Eight years younger than him and fourteen years older than Keira. “She’s living off the grid, as you young people like to say,” Alberto told him. “That’s why it took so long. The private detective had to trace her from Oklahoma. The lawyer will speak to her and confirm everything using DNA.” “Do you want me to go meet her and bring her home?” Because like Keira, Callie would be invited to come live with her paternal grandfather. While the twelve-year-old hadn’t had much choice—Alberto and Malcolm were her only living family—Callie was an adult. She could tell her grandfather to go pound sand. Malcolm honestly had no idea what she would do. But the promise of inheriting a piece of Alberto’s Alfresco would be difficult to resist. “I’m sending a lawyer,” Alberto said. “That makes it more official.” Malcolm wondered if that was the only reason. He wasn’t sure how he felt about the sudden influx of siblings. Keira confused him—he knew nothing about twelve-year-old girls. After enrolling her in a quality private school that was conveniently across the street from the office building, he’d asked Carmen, their housekeeper, to keep tabs on her. Every now and then he suffered guilt, wondering if he should be more involved in her life, but how? Take her shopping and listen to teen music? He held in a shudder. “I’m hoping she’ll move here,” Alberto told him. “We’ll be a family.” Before Malcolm could respond, his grandfather shifted in his seat. The late morning light caught the side of his face, illuminating the deep wrinkles. Alberto wasn’t a young man. Yes, he was in good health, but at his age, anything could happen. Malcolm didn’t want to think about what it would mean to lose him and he sure didn’t want his last years to be unhappy. “I hope she does, too,” he said, wondering if he was lying, then telling himself it didn’t much matter. When it came to his grandfather, he would do what Alberto wanted. He owed him that for everything that had happened… and everything he’d done.
He’ll protect her back. But will he win her heart? Sheriff Travis Walker doesn’t blame Lacy Milligan for hating him—he jailed her for murder. But now he’s exonerated her, and the handsome lawman needs her to find the real killer. Will she overcome her hatred to help? As she relents, violence explodes—someone wants her dead. With time running out, their investigation deepens…and ignites sparks of attraction neither ever expected. Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery A touching, invigorating, and in the rugged, romantic suspense kind of way a beautiful story of new beginnings, forgiveness, small town living, and daring to open your heart and take that leap into love, while being targeted by a murderer, and the person of your affections put you in a prison for three years for something you didn't do. Twisted? You betcha! The charming world that the author creates with the vivid images and intriguing, charismatic small-town characters is alluring, a place where you would want to spend your time in until you realize that there's most likely a killer living amongst you. This new series has a tangled yet thrilling start, and I am delightfully fascinated about what's to come. Sheriff Travis Walker made one big mistake at the beginning of his career that ended up Lacy Milligan being imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit. Travis has moved the heaven and earth to fix his mistakes, yet forgiveness is something he doesn't expect or ask for. Lacy is a survivor, a strong, amazing woman who has the capacity to start anew, forget, and forgive, for her own sake as much as Travis'. The threats and attacks towards Lacy start as soon as she comes back home, proving that someone in the small town has something to hide, and their ultimate goal is to stop the investigation to the real murderer and eliminate Lacy in the process if necessary. To survive, Lacy is going to need Travis' help and protection, no matter how resentful or how attracted she suddenly feels towards the handsome sheriff. The tender and delicate relationship that develops between Travis and Lacy is as sweet as it is ardent. The attraction is palpable, and connection true and believable. There are issues between them, that they need to work on, and they have those difficult conversations between the intense aggression and assaults towards Lacy and the investigation. I loved the subtle, a bit sarcastic humor that is embedded into the tale, with laugh out loud oneliners when you least expect it to lighten up the gloomy, danger-filled atmosphere. A dreamily luscious, yet gently touching, adorable, and inspiring love story in a midst of fatal, perilous action and suspense. A story that had me both sighing, smiling, and biting my nails, on the edge of my seat in dread and trepidation. I have a feeling this series is going to be a fan-favorite all the way! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

They say that old habits die hard, and twenty-seven-year-old, Kady Jenson, is about to discover how very true that statement is.
Waking up in the hospital with a complete stranger at her bedside should have caused panic and confusion, but for some unknown reason to her, Kady finds the company of the rugged, and devastatingly handsome man simply irresistible. And that Irish brogue. Oh, my word!
It’s only when she discovers that she has just awoken from a four-day coma, with a three-year void in her memory, that brings on her panic and confusion.
Kady soon comes to realize that things change with time, not only appearances. And if that wasn’t enough the sexual chemistry she once shared with her boyfriend, now so long ago, and she begins to fall back into buried habits unconsciously, each day, the growing sense of foreboding becomes increasingly harder to ignore. Kady is left on her own when her boyfriend goes on a business trip; she takes it upon herself to find her Irish Stranger which sends them on a quest, in a race against time, to piece the puzzle back together.
Seconds passed in a form of salted tears trailing down my face, and over my swollen lip. I tasted the salty residue as I swept my tongue over the cracked flesh between sobs. I have no idea how long I cried. All I can remember is the pressure in my head, directly behind my eyes, and the way it radiated through my cheekbones. Thrown into disarray, my shoulders juddered, sending my body into a mass of constricting, tautening muscles with each tiny gasp as I attempted to halt my cries in the warmth of Liam’s arms.
There was nothing I could do about my misplaced years. There was no magic medicine to administer to help spark something, no matter how trivial it may be. There was no magic procedure that the doctors of MA General could carry out like in some sci-fi movie, hook me up to more probes and wires and have my body zoom through a tunnel of flashing images while they flooded back. They were gone. At least, they were gone for now. And that was something I didn't truly comprehend how demanding it would be to accept. But I had to accept it. Regardless. “Mr. DeLaney,” Leviton’s voice shaded my rapid pants as I fought for a lungful of air. “If I could have a talk with you outside please,” he requested. I unwillingly pulled myself away from the warm crook of Liam’s body, shifting my head from the consoling warmth and rhythmic rising and dropping of his chest, back onto the white cotton pillow. Striving to reassure me, he grazed his thumb over my knuckles as he thrust himself from the bed. “I won’t be a few minutes, baby,” he smiled. Everything at that point may have been buried in a dense, stifling fog, but the look in Irish’s eyes didn't go unnoticed, as his gaze combed Liam while he was skirted at the foot of the bed, and trailed behind the sympathetic doctor into the hallway, closing the room door gently behind him. That grimace couldn't have gone undetected, totally impossible. It was the lighthouse beaming through my fog, guiding me to a question that I really didn't even wish to contemplate. Incalculable times I exhaled loudly, ousting all of my frustrations in one simple breath, but it didn't help. My frustrations and alarm was as visible as the flat-cap on Irish’s head. Every fleeting moment which passed alongside a groan, had my agitation escalating, scaling higher and higher like one of those carnival attractions, where you hit the button with the hammer to see how strong you are. And I was very close to reaching the jackpot. Air was expelled in hefty grunts, while my fingers had become a knotted mass in my lap. Teeth were grinded and temperatures had rocketed as the silence turned into piercing bells ringing in my already aching head. “How do we…? How long have we…?” I wavered, my attention shifted from my blue woven cover, to the well-defined man at the foot of my cot. “How do I know you?” Seeing the corner of his lips curl into a smile, albeit a sad one, I felt the atmosphere in the room begin to normalize and adjust. It was no longer suffocating and awkward like it had been with Liam amongst the room’s occupants. With his hands hidden in the front of his dark, denim pockets, his arms pushing his plaid shirt back to showcase his white T-shirt that clung to his torso, he paced leisurely to my side. “We've known each other for about eighteen months. I work for, Liam.” “Eightee––” I sighed. Quelling the sense of uprising panic, I breathed in a deep breath, well, as deep as my smarting ribs would allow, and exhaled through pursed lips. Having a void that immense in my mind was too overwhelming. I instantly began to wish I didn't ask such a stupid question, a question which would trigger an immeasurable degree of anxiety that I just didn't need at that point. “You’re an architect, too?” I added. He sniggered then hung his head for a moment. When he lifted his gaze, his head was cocked; he looked adorable with that shy expression. Shaking his head, he licked his lips slowly. “No, I um…” he hesitated, and I sensed a degree of discomfiture radiating from him. “I’m in construction,” he sighed. “Oh,” is all I could muster, before he removed his hands from his pockets, and took position on the ugly green seat next to me. “Do you enjoy it?” Resting on the edge of the chair with his elbows supported on his knees, he rubbed his hands together, making circular motions over each of his palms, opting for nonchalance. “Its work,” he answered simply through an unconvincing grin. I could understand and appreciate that. Being a stripper was never on my list of desired employment opportunities. The way my stomach knotted, and the shame I felt every time someone asked me what I did for a living, was considerable. People always judge a book by its cover, that’s a fact. And it’s unnerving when you know people judge you because you’re not a doctor, a lawyer, an architect…but work is work. My attention shuffled from Irish to the door as I heard the click of the handle being pushed down. Liam stepped inside, closing the door behind him. “Hey,” I breathed. His soft, loving expression turned cold and hard, as he was welcomed by the sight of his employee sitting beside me, leaning into his arms and only a few inches away from the bed itself. Liam may have been at the end of the room, but his jaw was working like Santa’s elves the day before Christmas Eve. Scowling, he stomped into the room with as much control as he could gather…which wasn't a lot for Liam DeLaney; he was never able to keep a firm lid on his emotions. Still, Irish didn't even batter an eyelid, let alone shift out of the seat, which made Liam worse. “What did the doctor say?” I asked, not only out of pure interest, but in an attempt to bring an end to the once again, thickening, hostile atmosphere. Taking extra caution not to snag my IV, he took a seat on the left of my bed. I watched and blenched as his thumb traced over my cracked, swelling mouth before lingering over my lower lip. I couldn't help but smile when I met his green and blue speckled eyes. “He said that…” he began but soon trailed off. The man to my right was shot a disdainful scowl. “You can go,” he snapped. I glance to my right, a V scorched into his dark brown eyebrows, his molded, pale lips hardened into a stubborn, firm line. “I said, go. There is no need for you to even be here now. Kady doesn't even know you; you’ll get her confused.” “Very well,” Irish muttered on an outbreath. He pushed himself up slowly, and placed a kind hand over mine. Yes, you knew he definitely worked in construction, because callouses which covered his palm was scrapping across the back of my knuckles. “I’ll be around if you need anything, Kady. I won’t be far.” I felt the mattress quivering beneath me, as Liam’s body shook frenzied and incessantly. “She has me. She doesn't need your charity,” he seethed. “Even still,” he lifted his head, his eyes narrowed at Liam in silent warning, before returning them to me. “I’ll be around. Nothing will change that,” he promised with a smile. “Thank you, that’s very kind, um…” I remember how his eyes blazed and how a twitch kissed the left corner of his mouth, a tiny dimple making an adorable appearance. It was a look that was both sad and hopeful. And although I have no idea why, it warmed me. “Walker. My name is, Walker.”

Apart from the obvious duties in life, writing is the only thing that I can sit and concentrate on without contemplating all the other things I should/could be doing. If I'm not writing...I'm thinking about writing, usually with a coffee in my hand.
I always start the day with a coffee, and a motivational quote. It really does help.
