Rebecca Stone is smart and driven. She has dreamed of being a sports reporter for her entire life, and now that she has landed her very first job at a TV station in tiny Curtinville, Texas, her dream is starting to become a reality.
The only problem? Curtinville may be small in size, but it's home to plenty of big secrets.
It doesn't take long for Rebecca to figure out that money, power, and greed are the names of the game here. Everything that the beloved Curtinville Cats do on the football field is overshadowed by the dirty deals that are going on behind the scenes. The Cats aren't the only ones who are good at drawing up trick plays. Some of the biggest names in town play dirty tricks every single day.
Rebecca arrives in Curtinville believing that hard work is the key to earning respect and building a successful career. She's so serious about her work that she refuses to give in to her feelings for the steamy ex-quarterback -- even though he has her squarely in his sights. But as she soon learns, doing the right thing doesn't always pay off. In fact, in Curtinville, it can be the easiest way to land in some serious hot water.
How far will Curtinville's elite go to keep their secrets hidden?
How many consequences will Rebecca suffer for exposing the truth?
Will all of those trick plays crush her dreams forever?
A small Texas town, that seems to be full of shady characters, and a college graduate sport journalist Rebecca who is the most naive person ever entered to the journalism world.
The small town seemed peaceful at the first glance, but soon it turned out everyone in the town had some dirty dealings, and just pushing their own agenda.
Against all the odds Rebecca had in town, she came off as innocent and gullible. If someone tells you on the first meeting they are going to destroy you, believing that one lunch is going to make it better, is just naive. And when Rebecca goes after the most powerful men in town by airing a news report, that could destroy many of these power players, without her boss's or networks knowledge -
and is surprised that there is consequences because of her action - really?
I didn't feel the chemistry, connection, between Brock and Rebecca, the romance seemed a bit clumsy at times. There was more heat when angry, drunk Brock had sex with his ex in his car.
And talking about being in a car and drinking, that happens too many times in this story, that the characters were mentioned drinking, being drunk, and then just driving home. One of my pet peeves, and so not okay with me.
The premise for the story seemed like an interesting setting. But Rebecca's wide-eye wondering of the consequences of her actions were just unrealistic. As I state at the 'about' section of the block, I do not like any third party/cheating issues in the stories I read, and Brock's behavior crossed that line with me.
So the conclusion is, being fair and honest, just two spoons from me.
I received a copy of the book, for fair and honest review.
Her sting operation put a ruthless criminal in prison.
One year ago, rookie FBI agent Celina Davenport pulled off the ultimate undercover operation…she seduced Emilio Londano – the dangerous leader of the San Diego Mafia – and destroyed his illegal empire.
Now he’s escaped and looking for revenge.
When Londano escapes a maximum security prison and begins picking off Celina’s friends and coworkers, everyone she knows becomes a target. Including DEA agent Cooper Harris, the man who once broke her heart and is now assigned to be her bodyguard.
How far will they go to stop him?
Cooper and Celina must risk their careers – and their hearts –to turn the table on their pursuer. But will their past, with its forbidden passions and impulsive choices, put them directly in his crosshairs?
The story has a slow start, and almost lost me in the first 20% of it.
Celina and Cooper surely have lots of chemistry, unfortunately most of it is submerged into the office politics, into the regulations of different alphabet soup agencies, and introductions of the situation, with army of secondary characters.
The suspense part of the story is engaging, with enough surprises, twists and turns to keep the interest. The tension is tangible, the action interesting, and the hand-to-hand combat scenes heart
Towards the end I started to get to know the cast, and enjoyed their interactions, even though Lana made my skin crawl. Just to get to know more about the team, I would continue to read the series.
Cooper is charming, protective, smart, 'the Beast', alpha male who likes animals and kids ~completely swoon worthy man.
Celina comes off rather childish, and deserves her nickname 'kid'. She is 14 years, 6 months, and 4 days younger than Cooper, and it shows in her behavior and decisions she makes. Since the first time they met, she has been relentlessly and openly after Cooper so that the whole team is aware of it. She was difficult to relate to, and for that reasons not easy to like either.
Overall the story was enjoyable read, and I know I want check out the next book in the series. This installment gets three spoons with a little teaspoon on the side from me..
One horrendous encounter with bikies left Ash shattered. Arriving in Gully’s Fall in search of a new life, she didn’t count on falling for the hunky, motorbike-riding fireman who rescued her when her car broke down.
Scott’s drawn to the rubenesque beauty, his desire for her steadily growing to an erotic burn. Can he discover the cause of her wariness and convince her to give him a chance?
Angela Verdenius writes the best BBW (Big Beautiful Women) books I've read. And don't let her Australian dialect scare you, there's a dictionary to all Aussie impressions at the beginning, but with all her books that I've read, I only used it twice.
Her books are the once I re-read again and again, because the characters are so likeable, real, appealing, charismatic, genial, enjoyable... The stories are sweet, funny, and engaging, and you stay up until wee hours of the morning to finish the stories.
In this book readers are introduced to new small town with its winsome characters.
Ash happens to the town by accident, on her search to take a control of her life again, after a terrible experience she went through a year ago. She feels lost to herself, her independence gone, and she wonders if she is able to feel, be close to someone ever again.
Scott is the town 'catch', handsome, friendly, considerate firefighter. He falls for Ash and is willing to do anything to win her, to gain her trust, to let him love her and accept intimacy again.
Scott's patience, restraint, and protectiveness is commendable and sweet, and slowly he's winning Ash over, breaking down her walls.
The stories of the town folks, the mystery of pyromaniac in the small town, the romance, the group of friends ~ just so enjoyable, lovely story, five spoons and looking forward for more stories from this town!
And I want to mention, that all her BBW books are excellent, highly recommended!!
Navy SEAL Brett 'Cutter' Weaver is on a mission to Nicaragua when he learns his bride-to-be, Tess Kelley, has been injured in a car bombing. At Homeland Security’s demand, he’s rushed home on the next available transport and arrives to find Tess embroiled in three controversial stories. One may offer the key to her attacker.
On top of the emotional and physical upheaval of the bombing, Tess has been offered the journalistic opportunity of a lifetime at the Washington Post, and is torn between her love for Brett and the need to prove herself to her father, a famous war correspondent. If she accepts the job, she and Brett face living on opposite sides of the country. With their wedding two weeks away, she has temptations to face and tough decisions to make.
Serving as her security detail, Brett sees Tess’s remarkable investigative reporting skills in action, and acts as her sounding board and partner. He’s willing to sacrifice to ensure her happiness, but more, he wants to keep her safe. Because there’s a killer stalking her, and one interview at a time, they mean to catch him.
I've always loved to read series, because of the chance to visit with the previous characters, but to get a whole new book with previous characters ~ that could go either way. But Teresa Reasor doesn't disappoint here either.
Brett and Tess has been missing each other for the ten months during Brett's deployment. The wedding is coming but there's still the question if Brett will make it home before the big day.
Tess has been working on many controversial cases for her job as journalist, and then one turns potentially deathly. The story is filled with mystery from the cases Tess is working on for the news paper. Some of them so dangerous, people start to die, attacks towards Tess are continues, and Brett does his best to protect Tess from all the harm and malice suddenly surrounding her.
While investigating the cases, Brett and Tess gets to see each other in new light, examine their deepest feelings and commitment to each other. They learn valuable lessons about being open to each other with everything, honest about all things, and how to support each other in every way.
The story gave deeper look into the SEAL team and family, to their everyday life, and to the struggles the soldiers as well as the families have, while being apart.
Lovely, exiting, different kind of story, four spoons for this one!!
Since finding out his father had another family on the side, Ian Dare swore to be the upstanding, responsible man his cheating parent had never been. When it comes to his relatives, he gives his all but in relationships he offers the bare minimum. But one glimpse of sensual Riley Taylor arouses his dominant and protective instincts and Ian is entranced. He will do anything to possess her … and does. But any future with Riley must include him extending an olive branch to the half-brother who is a constant reminder of the pain he’d rather forget.
Independent and always in control, Riley Taylor makes no apologies for choosing men carefully. Relationships have never been a priority and she believes herself hardened to domineering men – until she meets charismatic Ian Dare. He manages to turn a simple kiss into an all out assault on her senses and when he takes control in the bedroom, she’s stunned to discover she likes it. As their affair heats up, they soon realize they complete each other in ways neither imagined. But Riley’s past is closer than she cares to remember, and her struggles with Ian’s dominance might just cost her everything
Two broken people, carrying package from their childhood, trying to find the way to love, trust, and happiness.
I found it easy to connect with the characters. Their emotional turmoil, as well as the reasons for their actions was well described. You see the growth of the characters, the way their learn to compromise, trust each other, as their work through the problems, threads from the past.
I found the family connections, half-sibling rivalry, and the attempt to build a relationship with the 'other family' interesting. I think it will be fascinating to learn more about the secondary characters, and see if the families can build a bridge, and come together.
I enjoyed the story, four spoons.
Cool under pressure… Until now.
Hostile Operations Team sniper Jack “Hawk” Hunter is cool, methodical, and utterly lethal. Nothing rattles Jack’s calm. But that was before he learned he fathered a child three years ago—a child who has just been kidnapped.
Gina Domenico is a superstar, a pop sensation with a string of hit records. But deep inside, she’s still the lonely girl she’s always been. When Jack saved her from an arms dealer, they spent three unforgettable days together waiting for rescue—and Gina fell hard for the sexy soldier before he walked away forever.
But now she needs his help and she’ll do anything to get it. Though Jack can never forgive Gina for keeping his child from him, he’ll do everything in his power—and HOT’s—to bring their son home safely.
Nothing is what it seems, however, and their fates hang in the balance as someone else pulls the strings…and brings them ever closer to an explosive confrontation that could either save their son—or cost them everything.
This story is all about second chances, forgiveness, choices, mixed with lots of actions and surprises in the plot.
Three years ago, when Gina and Jack met for the first time, Jack was tortured with grief and sorrow for the death of his pregnant wife. Gina and Jack shared 3 memorable days hiding in a cave, waiting for rescue, and sharing a bit more than life stories. Hence comes Eli.
Now they meet again, and again it is life and death situation. Because of Eli, and the attraction they still feel for each other, they try to build a new relationship, but it is on the foundation of resentment, withhold information, misunderstandings, and insecurities. In already difficult situation because of the kidnapping, the stress, pressure, and tension is high. Those are the factors I claim made both Gina and Jack act at times rather catty, petty, and little bit like spoilt brats. They have a long road to travel for a balanced, loving, trusting relationship. And the constant threat and menace to their lives speeds their way to open their hearts and minds for each other.
As always, the H.O.T. brotherhood is exemplary, with the 'all for one' attitude.
And the action, suspense, thriller is explosive with twists and turns, surprises, that keeps the reader on the edge.
I've said this before, but excellent series, highly recommended ~ four spoons!
And I hear rumors there's new book in the series coming out this month, so stay tuned!
The first installment in the Elite Ops series, featuring sexy ex-military men ... and the women who rescue their hearts.
Former DEA agent Leland Hollis wasn't planning on being a hero. Recovering from an injury sustained during a drug bust gone wrong and with more personal demons than he cares to admit, he wants nothing more than peace and a chance to rebuild his life. But when Anna Mercado's crazy ex shows up wielding a baseball bat, Leland can't ignore his instinct to help. And after her son is kidnapped, Leland agrees to deliver the ransom into dangerous territory south of the border.
Anna has no choice but to go with this stranger she's just met if she ever wants to see her son again. But getting the boy out of a violent cartel region involves risking everything. And for that Leland will have to convince Anna to do the scariest thing of all ... open her heart and trust him.
This plot has some original ideas that sets it apart from the regular romantic suspense, but the storyline gets messy. It is a bit too far fetched, and has so many scenarios for the possible reasons why things are turning out as they are,
and with so many secondary characters, it is so easy to lose focus and interest.
Leland is a broken man and tattered agent, being wanted, possibly, by the Mexican drug cartel. He has shut down his feelings, because caring for someone equals getting hurt for him. But I liked him, he was humble, honorable, and honest with himself in every aspect, even with his attraction to Anna.
I had hard time connecting with Anna. She is a married to the Tequila King, separated, and seems a bit lost, and very stressed because of the challenges of the past year, not to mention the 48 hours of drama and disaster they are going through in the story. Three times in the story she does, or tries to, use sex as a bargaining tool. Her connection to Leland seemed more like codependent hero worship, than love. And while being portrayed as the all sacrificing mother, she also has sex in the bathroom, with a man she met day before, under possible surveillance cameras, while being held as a prisoner by drug cartel leader, while her son is kidnapped, and her husband is held in prison for attempted murder, of her -- really?!
There are many secondary characters in the story, and I had hard time keeping them all lined up. Which agent was he again? Now what drug cartel did he work again, and he was in war with whom? And this informant came from where, why, how... You get the picture, just too much confusion.
There is a lot happening in this story, like said. The action is fast, constant, and furious, with surprises behind every corner. The drug cartels are after them, the thread from Anna's husband, and the reasons behind every attack change constantly. And when some of the questions are finally being answered, the 'reality' in the tale is unimaginable, and the last chapter's events were just -- unreal.
So the story has a wounded, interesting hero. An army of secondary characters I would like to know more about. A heroine with little appeal but an awesome son. A lot of action, but confusing and unrealistic events in the plot. Yes, it is fiction, but here there is a stretch to the storyline. How do I rate this book, and will I follow the series? I believe in all fairness, it deserves three spoons. There were enough intersting parts in the story to say I liked it.
And as to will I continue reading the series -- time will tell...
Cameron Justice - Once a throw away kid heading for trouble, he found a sense of purpose in a war zone. Years later, successful, handsome and wealthy, Cam's mistrust of women and relationships in general have left him a brooding loner
Lacey Morrow - Abused and neglected, she's a lost girl determined to make something of her life- if only she could catch a break
Unlikely Companions - Fate throws them together. Now the rest is up to them.
Will Cam be able to leave the past behind and learn to trust?
Will Lacey be strong enough to fight for what she wants- Or will the past be too much for them to overcome?
Broken Justice is not a romantic suspense story.
Yes, the background is an security agency, owned and operated by ex-military men, the prologue tells how the operation came to be, but there's no element of suspense and mystery.
The story is about Cameron and Lacey, about their journey to heal the past hurt, and to find love with each other. Both Cameron and Lacey have issues their have to deal with, in order to be able to trust and fall in love. Life has given them some hard lessons, and that has made both of them a bit of an island amongst the humankind. Faith brings them together, and slowly they start to take steps into a friendship, until the overpowering physical attraction takes over.
The beginning of the story, after chapter one, was appealing. I enjoyed how Cameron and Lacey were 'dancing' around each other, and how during the long road trip, they started to open up, trust each other, and form a friendship.
When you put two introverts into the same story, there's not much of dialog, but long periods of inner thoughts and pondering, and daydreaming with long sex scenes..
After arriving to Arizona, their relationship, and the tune of the story, changes.
In a midst of his friends and colleagues Cameron's behavior changes.
Lacey is working on to build a new life, a future for herself, hoping Cameron is part of it. But Cameron has hard time adjusting to the new life, with Lacey as part of it.
I don't want to give too much away, but the second part of the story made it hard for me to like Cameron.
The ending felt rushed because of that, Lacey just accepting Cameron with all his faults and odd behavior. I would have liked a bit more time for the 'reconciliation' outside the bed.
Through the tale, there's a lot of foul language, and lots of long and detailed sex scenes, just so you are aware.
Three spoons for this one, and mainly to Lacey!
The first in the series is Sweet as Honey.
It features Dex Concannon, a small-town cop with a sexy smile and a dark past, and the vulnerable but warm-hearted Honey Summers.
Dex and Honey have decided to wait until their wedding night to sleep together, to give themselves time to prove they're serious about each other.
Dex's last girlfriend pretended she was pregnant to get him to marry her, but luckily he found out just hours before and left her at the altar. Waiting to sleep with Honey until after they're married means Dex doesn't have to worry about that happening again - not that he really thinks the sweet and gentle Honey would do the same as his mad ex.
Honey's last relationship was abusive, and she's relieved she doesn't have to think about the physical side of things for a while. Dex being willing to wait proves to her that he's serious, and it makes the wedding night an exciting prospect.
But events are gradually conspiring against them. Dex's ex-girlfriend arrives to stir up the past, and Honey goes to court and sits on the jury during a case that mirrors the events in her own life, bringing back all the old doubts.
The wedding is only a week away, but their big day hangs in the balance. Is their love strong enough to pull them through?
Sweet as Honey is the first book in the series of The Seven Sisters, where the seventh on is really the brother. I actually thought I'd jumped into the series in a middle of it, just seems that I had missed a lot of the previous story.
I liked the family dynamics in the book, the siblings, the Cafe, the compound where they lived, the caring, but grieving father. The small town living, stories from the cop's day, people hanging out in the Cafe, where the best in the story!
The tale includes the timeline of a week before Honey and Dex's awaited wedding. Both Honey and Dex are broken, raw, by their past experiences in life, giving them insecurities and doubts of being worthy. And just a week to the wedding, they both have to face their past, Honey in the form of a court case mirroring her past life, and Dex's crazy ex shows up somewhat unexpected.
Lot of the story is focused on the celibacy Honey and Dex decided to have before the wedding night. I liked how the father turned up to talk to Dex, I wished they would have had some couple's counseling or something like that, since they both were so very broken with the inner doubts, and needed help with communication with each other.
If you enjoy sweet family sagas, with big families in small town setting in exotic New Zealand, this might just be the series for you!
I was provided this story by the publisher via NetGalley for honest and fair review.
The world’s most wanted man is back from the dead. And only one woman can stop him…
Former Army linguist Lucky San Ramos escaped with her life, but the scars an evil terrorist leader left on her skin are a constant reminder of her captivity. Now her tormentor is back—and so is the sexy Special Operations soldier she once loved.
HOT operator Kevin “Big Mac” MacDonald rescued Lucky the last time. And then he walked away when he couldn’t be what she needed. When Lucky married his teammate, Kev knew it was for the best. But now Marco is dead and Lucky is no longer safe.
When Kev and Lucky team up to capture a terrorist, they’ll have to pretend to be man and wife on an explosive military mission to a war-torn nation. With time running out and the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Kev and Lucky play a perilous game of cat and mouse with a madman during the day.
But at night, they battle the secrets of the past and the sizzling attraction that threatens to endanger the mission. Lucky shouldn’t want the man who abandoned her once before. But the passion between them is sinfully, sensuously, dangerously hot… and proving impossible to resist.
I love it when series you like just gets better by each story, and Dangerously Hot is my favorite of the series.
The team, the brotherhood is so tight, so commendable. I think Mendez is just super with the scary demeanor, and so caring inside.
And I think it is the brotherhood, that makes it so hard for Kevin to admit his feelings to Lucky. As well as his demons from his childhood. But Kevin and Lucky are so energetic together, the chemistry is just sparking, the tension so high, and it has been building for so long, now it is down right explosive. The connection they have with each other is real, even though raw, the tenderness between them so adorable. When two broken, lonely people find the home with each other, it is swoon worthy!
This story don't only have frenzied suspense, violent battles, twists in the plot that makes your heart race, but it also gives an interesting glimpse to the training, planning, and plotting their mission entails. And as always as part of the story is told by the villains point of view, the evil, vicious thoughts and actions makes the suspense even more intense.
Absolutely fantastic tale that deserves all five spoons!
He's more than her protector…
Being a cop in a small Georgia town is a pretty peaceful job, and one that Boone Braddock takes pride in. Babysitting the governor's daughter, however, isn't Boone's idea of police duty. Especially when it's Susannah Rhodes, who has an impulsive streak a mile wide.
Boone was Susannah's crush in high school. He's still unmistakably handsome. Worse yet, it's impossible to keep anything from him—like the real reason she's returned home. And it's more impossible still to keep her distance. Because a long time ago, the two had shared something special. Something that was never finished…
Sweet and heartwarming story of a small town cop and the governor's daughter, and how high school crush can turn into something much more decades later.
The setting of small Georgia town is enchanting, with the southern hospitality, slow pace of the life, and southern drawl.
The relationship, as well as the story, seems to be as slow going as the life down south at times, but somehow it wraps you up in the warmth of it, and keeps the interest high.
Boone and Susannah has strong chemistry, more things in common they expected to have, and take their time to get to know each other, while Boone is guarding her during the campaign. The story of their relationship is 'clean' , joyous, and loving.
There's a excitement, a bit mystery mixed in the story, with lots of details of organic farming, healthy living, family relations, and small town people everyday life.
Charming story ~ three big spoons and one teaspoon for the correct measure!
This story will be out October 1st. Pre-order link below!
The book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley for honest and fair review.
They were partners once
After an attack on the job that nearly killed her, Special Agent Celida Morales is determined to salvage her reputation in the FBI and get back to the career she loves. Domestic terrorism has left its mark on her—literally—and now she’s more determined than ever to leave her mark on it. But when a hostage situation takes an unexpected turn she’s confronted with the realization that she may not only lose the hostages, but also the only man she’s lost her heart to.
To be together now, this time they’ll have to risk it all
Hostage Rescue Team assault team leader Brad Tucker has always wanted Celida but professional conduct and her unwillingness to commit stood in the way. For more than a year he’s been juggling the increasing demands of his job and personal life, but after Celida was almost killed, none of those reasons matter anymore. Tuck knows it’s time to claim her and he’s ready to lay it all on the line. Then an op turns deadly and it’s a race to bring down a well-trained enemy bent on settling an old score, a man who doesn’t care how many innocent people get in his way.
Kaylea Cross writes breathtaking romantic suspense stories, that are thrilling, vivid, and steamy sweet.
In Targeted the suspense is building, tension rising, as the FBI's finest are targeted for unknown reason. Part of the story is told by the villain's point of view, and in this story I felt the sorrow and agony of the offender, that drove him to desperate attempt of revenge. His skills and experience gave all the crime fighters a challenge, building up the pressure.
Tuck, the powerful, yet gentle and tender hearted, alpha male is willing to fight for committed 'forever' relationship with Celida. I loved the chemistry and connection between them. The fact that it was Tuck who was willing and able to love and commit, but Celinda was challenged with deeper emotions and long term, committed relationship gave the story an interesting twist to the 'norm', The loyalty towards each other, how they took care of each other when facing the sorrows and hardship of life was swoon worthy.
Both Tuck and Celida are kick-ass, dominant, highly professional agents, with pressures and stress of the dangerous profession. And the storyline with PTSD was welcomed and weighty reminder of the impact these professions have on these heroes.
The other secondary storyline with Alzheimer's disease was touching, raw, and real. I want to just thank the author for writing such a lifelike and eloquent story around it.
I adored and enjoyed every single word of this story, and it deserves at least all the five spoons in the drawer!! Can't wait for the next one in the series.
When public relations expert Olivia Reese stumbles onto evidence of a dangerous conspiracy right before Christmas, there’s only one man she can call for help. Billy “The Kid” Blake is a member of an elite military unit—the Hostile Operations Team—and he’s Olivia’s former lover.
Billy never forgot the sexy woman who rocked his world—and his bed—before she walked out on him. Now that she needs his help, he’ll do anything he can to keep her safe. But as time runs out and the snow piles up, can Billy and Olivia work together to thwart a lethal plot against the Pentagon without getting involved again?
Damsel in distress, hot alpha men in action that move faster than eye can see and take down two villains with hands tied down. When you an add hot, steamy, and sweet romance, Christmas time, and snow storm, you pretty much have the ingredients for a perfect suspense novella.
I'm really enjoying this series and HOT team's efforts to save the world one crisis at the time, four spoons for this spicy novella!
