When trouble walks in, there’s no choice but to hold on tight for the ride.
Two years before, Shaw Woodward watched the love of his life walk down the aisle to another man. Since then, life has kicked him in the balls and lifted him up several times. Just so happens he’s on the downward dip of that cycle right now. After a difficult mission in the Ranger Ops unit, he’s struggled to keep his focus, and his captain is forcing him to seek help. He just never expected to walk into the shrink’s office to find the woman he loved seated behind the desk in sexy secretary glasses with her blonde hair in a confining bun he wants to unravel. Atalee Franklin has experienced a lot of highs and lows lately—a marriage and a divorce to name a couple. As a psychiatrist, she’s passionate about helping people through their most difficult moments, but then in walks Shaw, the gorgeous, muscled friend of her ex-husband, and also the reason her marriage failed. With another shot at a relationship in his sights, can Shaw actually get his head in order enough to feel again? Leaving the Ranger Ops isn’t even a possibility—the only way they’ll strip him from the unit is by putting him in the ground. Atalee sees no way to help the man she cares for without giving her professional opinion to quit the special ops force, but could her heart be impairing her judgment in this case? Losing him a second time isn’t even an option…

Welcome back to Petal, Georgia in this spin-off of the Chase Brothers series by Lauren Dane. Getting lost in the arms of a bad boy never felt so good Time—and the military— have made Joe Harris a better man than he was when he left Petal, GA ten years ago. Now that he’s back, all is wants is to take care of his dad, get his garage up and running and spend time with his dog. He has no plans for a relationship, especially one with his best friend’s kid sister, no matter how much she tempts him. And boy does she ever. Previously published; newly refreshed by author—including bonus chapters!
From falling in love to heartbreak to family drama and dealing with aging parents with issues and how it affects your life, I was immersed in this tale and at times I felt the pain of the protagonists in my heart like it was my own.
Joe Harris just spoke to me, it was so easy for me to understand his struggles and the way he felt about his parents and everything he tried to do, to hold the family above the waterline and not drown into the sea of mental illness and dementia, issues within the family, PTSD, and everything else life was throwing at him. Beth Murphy was a notoriously strong woman. She knew what she wanted and wasn't shy about going after it. There was that daring recklessness in her spirit when it came to Joe, and I loved it. I also loved the tight hold the Murphy siblings have, and how they were there for each other. The things they have survived and still were thriving, successful, healthy human beings was nothing sort of amazing and admirable. The spark between Joe and Beth took off fast, setting out hot flames. What I really enjoy about this series - that is a bit different than what I often read in the romance genre - is that there is more to the story than just falling in love. The author tells a story that is spread over time, and she shows the difficulties to balance life, business, responsibility, family drama, and a new, budding relationship. Life is not always easy, and we do not always get what we want, and sometimes love and desire alone is not enough, you have to find the guts to dare to share, trust, and open up to build something lasting. Beth showed that even in heartbreak and during the stormy weathers of life, you do not abandon your loved ones. Those scenes were not easy, the pain is palpable, the angst is high, and there are so many directions the story could take, and my gosh, the ache was real and raw, tangible in the air. Petal, Georgia is well represented in the story, the meddling townfolks, and the extended family brings a lot of characters into the play. It helps to keep a track of everyone if you have read all the books, it is not necessary, but like said, it helps. I loved the remakes of the original series with the Chase brothers, and this spinoff remake is proving to be just as potent, passionate, and entertaining. So much emotion, life, drama, and triumph, fitted into a smoothly flowing, heartfelt tale. ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

Check it out and preorder your copy now! Title: SOUR Author: Jennifer Woodhull Genre: Romantic Comedy Release Date: June 4th
Tall, handsome, and eternally optimistic Noah has dated a string of gorgeous women. His best friend Elle has outlasted them all. Of course, he has no idea she's been in love with him for years. Why would he? It's not like she's going to tell him. After all, she's short and awkward, and as he's fond of reminding her, has a sour disposition.
When Elle takes off on her annual ten-day vacation with her family, Noah comes to a startling realization. She's the woman who is by his side day in and day out, whose office is across the hall, and whose house is around the corner. She has called him on his shit when he gets too cocky, and he has held her in her arms when her heart was broken. Absence must make the heart grow fonder because while she's in Germany with her parents, he realizes that everything he has ever wanted was right there all along. Now he's on a mission to make her realize that romance won't ruin their friendship, but platonic friendship is ruining their relationship.
I’m a guy, and as a guy, I am a great appreciator of the female form in all its glory. I’ve met women who could easily be supermodels, but who were unattractive because of their personalities, intellect, or lack thereof. I have dated women who were what some guys might consider average looking, but who blew me away with their intelligence, wit, or sense of humor, and that made them sexy as hell.
One thing I’m certain of is that finding a woman who is gorgeous, intelligent, funny, doesn’t take herself too seriously, and has a kind heart, is nearly impossible. It’s like finding a unicorn in the middle of an island full of mermaids while standing on a hill made up of all the gold from the lost city of Atlantis. Well, I happen to be the luckiest son-of-a-bitch on the planet, because I have found exactly that. My personal unicorn is named Ariel Bailey, but she answers to Elle. I’ve liked Elle since we first met while she was in college. I was visiting my brother at school, and he was dating a friend of hers. She was only twenty-three then, and I had graduated a few years before. I liked her and I could’ve tried to make a move on her back then, but it seemed a little weird to me to date someone who was still in college when I was starting my first real job. We became friends, and stayed in touch after she graduated. When a position opened up at my company, I couldn’t call her fast enough.
We all need moments of escape. With all the demands on us day in and day out, we each need something just for ourselves. Perhaps nothing provides a private moment - a brief respite from every day - like escaping into a great story. When you pick up one of my books I hope you find that place that you can escape to. Explore the streets of Paris with new heroines or fly around the world to reclaim your lost love with a favorite hero. Whether it's the romance that takes your breath away or those climactic encounters that make your pulse race, I hope you find that solitary moment of enjoyment while lost in one of my stories.

Title: Beach Wedding Weekend Author: Rachel Magee Genre: Contemporary Romance Publishing: May 15th, 2019
You’re invited to a sunny beach town for a witty, heartwarming romance.
When Brody broke up with Paige and went to Europe, he suggested that someday, they’d pick up right where they left off. A hopeless romantic, she believed him. But when they meet again, Brody’s dating a gorgeous actress. They’re all going to attend the same wedding, and Paige plans to win Brody back. She even enlists her best friend’s brother, Aiden, to pretend to date her and make her ex jealous. A breezy, charming restaurant owner, Aiden actually avoids serious relationships, but as a fake boyfriend, he’s perfect. As old friends and exes take part in wedding preparations and enjoy the beauty of the Florida coast, they begin to see themselves—and each other—in a new light. This summer romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for BBQ Brisket Tacos with Sunshine Slaw.
“They’re protecting something.” Paige’s expression turned more serious and she looked out to study the rest of the dolphin pod. “Do you have a baby with you?”
Aiden scanned the group as well. What he’d thought was a pod of six had now grown, and he counted at least ten. And that’s when he saw it. It was so precious it could have softened the hardest heart. “Yep. A tiny one, right there next to its mom.” The tiny dolphin stayed just below the surface. He was hard to spot because he hovered close to the front flipper of the larger dolphin Aiden assumed was his mother. Both of Paige’s hands went to her heart and she made a muffled cooing sound. “Oh, Aiden, have you ever seen anything so adorable in your whole life?” As if the mother had heard her, she swam a little closer, showing off the calf. The baby couldn’t have been more than three feet long and had a sort of clumsy newness about him. Aiden wouldn’t have been surprised if he was only a few days old. “What a treat,” Paige whispered. The mistiness in her eyes glistened and joy glowed around her. Aiden agreed. This moment was a treat. And what was even more surprising was the realization that there wasn’t anyone else he would’ve wanted to share it with. They sat there like that for at least ten minutes with the waves gently rocking them, encompassed in a bubble of wonder, escorted by a pair of large dolphins while they watched the rest of the pod play in the water next to them. Finally, Paige turned her attention to their escorts. “What a precious little baby. Thank you for sharing him with us.” The one in front popped up, smiling right at them as if to acknowledge the compliment, and then both escorts joined the others and the whole pod disappeared into the darker waters. She reached back and covered his hand with hers. The warmth of her touch flowed through him, which caught him off guard. He stared at her hand in amazement for a moment before looking up at her. The peaceful expression on her face washed over him, too. “Dolphins are my favorite animal, and I’ve never been this close to them in the wild. Weren’t they spectacular?” Aiden shrugged and tried to look humble. “I arranged for them to be here as a thank you for helping me.” She playfully pushed his hand away and turned her full attention back to where the dolphins had been, breathing out a contented sigh. “It doesn’t get much better than this, does it?” No. No it didn’t.
Rachel wrote her first novel when she was twelve and entered it into a contest for young author/illustrators. When she's not busy working on her latest book, she loves to travel with her family and friends. By far, her favorite destination is the beach, which tends to work its way into most of her stories. Between vacations, you can find her at home in The Woodlands, TX with her wonderful husband, their two adventurous kids and a couple of spirited pets.

Not too long ago, I had one goal: Win an Olympic Gold Medal but an injury took me out of the running for the Ladies Figure Skating competition at the last Olympic Games. Nancy Kerrigan was grandfathered in. I was not.
Translation: I was disqualified. DQ’d. I was out in the cold on my keister. But when an offer to fill a spot on a pairs team lands in my lap, I take it. It seems like an answered prayer—that is until a competitor is found brutally murdered in her room at the competitor’s village and my partner is the number one suspect. I’m going to have to take matters into my own hands. Again. Sweet Kristi Yamaguchi, save me from overly cocky men. My name is Sophia Eleonore Dubois and holy mother of Dorothy Hamill my life is still complicated . . Those words echo in my head, pinging around like a pinball. You’re safe with me. And I know that I am. Kane won’t let anything happen to me. I am totally taken care of, so I do what he says and close my eyes to sleep. Kane has it covered here. Tomorrow will be better. I can only hope. Too bad I would only find out how very wrong I was . . .
Jennifer is a thirty something lover of words, all words: the written, the spoken, the sung (even poorly), the sweet, the funny, and even the four letter variety. She is a native of San Diego, California where she grew up reading the Brownings and Rebecca with her mother and Clifford and the Dog who Glowed in the Dark with her dad, much to her mother’s dismay.
Jennifer is a graduate of California State University San Marcos where she studied Criminology and Justice Studies. She is also an Alpha Xi Delta. 10 years ago, she was swept off her feet by her very own sailor. Today, they are happily married and the parents of a 8 year old and 6 year old twins. She can often be found in East Texas on the soccer fields, drawing with her children, or reading. Jennifer is convinced that if she puts her fitbit on one of the dogs, she might finally make her step goals. She loves a great romance, an alpha hero, and lots and lots of laughter.
Meet the do-or-die warriors who’ll do anything for justice
Introducing the Mission Medusa series Years of intense training have prepared Tessa Wilkes to become a Medusa—part of an elite, women-only Special Forces team. But all the mental prep and physical training in the world can’t prepare her fully to take on one of the world’s most dangerous men. The ultimate operative, Tessa teams with trainer Beau Lambert to track her target, but even if she survives, will her heart?
I love the idea of the series the all-female special forces team. I haven't had a chance to read the previous series on the Medusa, yet I was super excited to read this and get an introduction to the new series.
The topic of equality is very relevant right now worldwide, and the misogyny in the military is brought up here as well as the female recruits fight against the patriarchic hierarchy of the US military. When even the hero has to be educated and brought over to support the idea of women being capable to carry their weight in special ops, you know the road is all uphill for the female soldiers. I actually loved how the author underlined the fact that equality between genders, does not mean that all are necessarily capable to do everything, but that each soldier is used to best of their abilities with the talents and capabilities they have, and not been discriminated because of their gender. While most of the story is focused on the training, preparations, and the flammable, intense physical attraction between the protagonists, the last fifth of the story is an action-packed, potent fight for survival while completing the mission. The connection between Tessa and Beau is palpable, the relationship has that tabu vibe as it is absolutely forbidden for a trainer to have intimate relations with the trainee - anywhere in the work world. The discussion might not be if they care for each other but do they care enough to risk their careers and future for each other. I liked the story, especially the ending and conclusion, and I am intrigued by the concept - and I am invested to see how the personal relationships are played into the dark and dangerous world of dark ops and special forces. The author has a unique voice that she uses to tell the story, and she dares to take on some very sensitive topics, and for that I applaud her. ~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

A Naughty Jolly Christmas
The Holiday Chronicles Book 1 by Denise M. Wheatley Genre: Contemporary Romance Publisher eXtasy Books Inc December 28, 2018
Sasha Williams is an African-American public relations powerhouse who’s come a long way from the tough streets of Chicago to glamorous Los Angeles. While she loves her LA life, she hasn’t forgotten her roots and always goes back home to celebrate Christmas with her tight-knit family.
This year, however, Sasha’s holiday plans are nixed when she’s forced to accompany her sexy, notoriously naughty new client, Drake Lancaster, on the press tour for his upcoming Christmas movie. Sasha’s furious, yet finds herself overcome with lust when Drake strolls into her office. She’s surprised, considering she’s never dated a white man. Drake’s attraction toward her is just as intense, and the pair partake in a hot, steamy sex session right there in her office. Despite Sasha’s promise to keep things all business during the press tour, their sensual trysts heat up even further while out on the road. In the end, Sasha must decide whether their cultural differences, along with her secret painful past and Drake’s playboy reputation, are worth her risking her heart and career—especially without knowing whether this is the real thing or a racy fling.
Drake appeared in Sasha’s office doorway, up close and personal, in all his sexy glory. He slowly eyed her from head to toe. Judging by the look of admiration in his penetrating gaze, he liked what he saw.
“So,” Drake began, his titillating tone filled with flirtation, “you’re the notorious Sasha Williams who’s been hired to clean up my image and take me to the next level…” Drake’s smooth, deep voice sent shivers through her eardrums straight down to her panties. And just like that, her self-control slipped away. Sasha struggled to compose herself. She managed to force a smile and extend her trembling hand. “Hello, Drake. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He gently took her hand in his and bowed slightly, kissing it softly. “The pleasure is all mine.” Drake straightened up but didn’t let go of her hand. His firm grip and rugged skin sent delicate tremors straight up her arm. He slowly studied her face. Then he shamelessly became transfixed on her breasts, licking his lips hungrily. Sasha froze. She felt lost underneath the spell of his intoxicating stare and stimulating touch. Drake sauntered over to the door and locked it. Sasha swallowed hard. “Can I, uh, can I get you something to drink?” “Nope. I’m good. I’ve got everything I need right in front of me.” Sasha’s heart thumped erratically. She watched Drake head over to the other side of her office. “Should we take a seat on the couch so you can tell me everything you’re going to do for me now that I’m officially your client?” Drake didn’t wait for her to respond. He wrapped his arm around her waist and led her over to the couch. When she bent forward to sit down, his hand slid past her hip and cupped her ass. Sasha gasped as Drake sat dangerously close to her. She moved over a few inches to put some space in between them, but he promptly moved in even closer. “You’ve got such a beautiful complexion, Sasha. And I love your hair,” he murmured, lightly running his finger over her cheek. She leaned back and eyed Drake suspiciously. “Do I really? Wait, let me guess what’s coming next. You’re going to tell me how exotic I look, then ask if you can touch my hair, right?” “Actually no, I was—” “Because, newsflash,” Sasha interrupted, now in full rant mode, “I’m just your typical, standard-looking African-American woman. My complexion, my hair…my entire look is the norm where I’m from.” Sasha was so worked up she was beginning to perspire. She hadn’t meant to go off the deep end, but she was tired of that same old narrative of being viewed as some sort of foreign object—as if her form of beauty was somehow atypical. But Drake actually appeared somewhat amused. “You made mention of where you’re from,” he said. “Where’s that?” “Chicago. South side.” “Ahh. Chi-town.” “Please don’t call it that.” Sasha giggled. “It sounds so basic.” “All right then, the Windy City. Great town. I shot a movie there last year. Fantastic food and even better people. Oh, and I hate to break this to you, Sasha Williams, but here’s my newsflash. There’s nothing typical about you, and you don’t resemble any other woman, period. You’re absolutely stunning.” The compliment flipped Sasha’s feelings from offended to flattered within seconds. She looked into Drake’s eyes and saw nothing but sincerity, then felt herself falling under his spell once again. “Thank you,” she replied quietly. “And no, I’m not going to ask to touch your beautiful hair, unless you want me to, of course. But your hair is not some sort of peculiar phenomenon to me. You’re not the first woman of color I’ve encountered. My guess is that you’ve never been with a white guy, though, have you?” Sasha shifted in her seat. She wasn’t comfortable having such a personal, race-related conversation with this man she’d just met. “I’m sorry, Drake. But we’ve really gotten off track here. Why don’t we get back to business?” “Sure. Whatever you want…” Drake’s jeans rubbed against Sasha’s bare leg. He placed his arm behind her along the back of the couch, then let it slip forward over her shoulder, his fingertips practically brushing across her hardened nipples. If she moved an inch, her breast would fall right into his hand. Her entire body stiffened up. “I’m sure you already heard about the altercation I had at the Hollywood Hills Resort last weekend. Do you think you could spin the story to somehow make me look like the victim? Because I’ve been slaughtered in the press, and when we go out on this press tour for Deck the Halls with Love, I need to have the fans’ sympathy and support.” Sasha cleared her throat and allowed herself to slowly exhale, somehow managing to avoid having her hardened nipple graze Drake’s lingering fingertips. “Well…” she began, struggling to steady her trembling voice. “The so-called fans who mobbed you at the resort were obviously trying to pick a fight. Their goal was to record the incident and upload it onto social media for likes and followers. I’ll counter the negative press by saying your actions were simply a matter of self-preservation. You were being attacked and had no security with you, so you had no choice but to protect yourself.” Sasha was pleased with her impromptu response. And apparently Drake was, too, because she glanced down at his crotch and noticed he was fully erect. “Wow, Ms. Williams. That was a very impressive answer.” Sasha gazed into his eyes and saw a glimmer of insatiability. She became so memorized that when he slid his hand onto her thigh and gripped it firmly, she didn’t stop him. He boldly took her chin in his hand, pressed his soft, moist lips against hers, and slipped his tongue inside her mouth. Her rigid body slowly relaxed. She couldn’t believe this was happening and was even more shocked by the fact that she was actually kissing Drake back. When his hand glided up her leg, underneath her dress, and he slid her panties to the side, Sasha’s first instinct was to close her legs and deny him. But desire overtook her, and she instead opened her legs wider to give him easier access… * B&N * eXtasy Books
Interracial entertainment industry it couple Sasha Williams and Drake Lancaster are still going strong. Her impeccable publicist skills have kept him on the A-list, helping Drake land the lead role in a major Valentine’s Day movie. When filming wraps, the couple plan on heading to Cabo San Lucas, inviting both their families along to meet for the first time.
But plans go astray when Drake reverts back to his bad boy ways during filming and gets into a huge altercation with the director. He’s booted from the movie and replaced by Mitch Morrison, a hot young African-American actor who’s recently taken Hollywood by storm. While Drake struggles to repair his image, Mitch hires Sasha to help manage his burgeoning career. The move infuriates Drake, but Sasha insists it’s a great business opportunity. She doesn’t realize Drake’s threatened by Mitch’s good looks and charismatic personality and is worried the pair will bond over their African-American heritage. The stress of it all puts a strain on the couple’s relationship, especially when Mitch admits to Sasha that he’s developed feelings for her and she realizes the sentiments may be mutual. With the pressures of Sasha and Drake’s rocky union continuing to mount, the anticipation of their families meeting, and Sasha’s elusive affections towards Mitch, the couple can’t help but wonder whether their once booming relationship is about to crash. In the end, they must figure out whether their love is strong enough to withstand these challenges and carry them through this Valentine’s Day.
Sasha sped along the Pacific Coast Highway with her car top down and music blaring. The crisp ocean wind whipped through her hair while the setting sun warmed her skin. She readjusted her sunglasses and leaned back, relishing the moment. Sasha was happier than she’d been in quite some time. Life was good. As a matter of fact, life was great thanks to today, because everything had suddenly taken a turn for the better.
After she’d knocked her presentation out of the park that morning, Sasha received a text from Drake letting her know he had gotten the part. She’d screamed so loudly that Lori came tearing into her office, thinking something had happened to her. Drake then informed her he’d made dinner reservations at Hinata Sushi, the most exclusive restaurant in Malibu, and afterwards they’d check into the royal suite at The Malibu Oceanside, where they would spend the rest of the evening indulging in dessert and one another. Sasha had something in store for Drake as well. That afternoon, she’d solidified plans for their Cabo vacation after deciding she would rather spend the evening reconnecting with him than coordinating the trip. She made some executive decisions on her own and created an elaborate agenda confirming the exact travel dates, resort location, and list of activities. Sasha sent the agenda to both sets of parents, and just as she’d expected, they got lost in the fancy presentation and agreed to everything. She stopped at a red light and grabbed her phone, activating the voice-to-text feature then sending Drake a message asking whether he wanted to drive out to Malibu or arrange car service. She hadn’t heard from him since early that after noon, which was strange after they’d been communicating nonstop all morning. Sasha assumed he had gotten caught up in the whirlwind of preparing for his shoot and figured they’d hash things out when she got home. She turned down her block and approached her house, expecting to see Drake’s car parked outside. When she didn’t, Sasha pulled into the driveway and tried calling him. She got his voicemail. “Hey, babe, it’s me. Tell your film director Lee that he’s going to have you all to himself in Ontario soon enough and you need to take a break from your meeting to call your girl. But anyway, I just got home. Getting ready to freshen up and pack for our night. I’m so looking forward to this. Love you.” Sasha disconnected the call and practically floated inside the house. She set her tote down on the couch, then walked over to the closet to grab her suitcase. On the way there, she saw a printout lying on the bar. She picked it up and squint-ed while trying to make out exactly what she was looking at. Upon further inspection, Sasha realized it was a dark, grainy photo of her and Mitch, sitting in the booth at the Diamond VIP Bar. Her stomach dropped to her knees. She trembled all over as beads of sweat formed along her hairline. Sasha held her breath, then read the blurb underneath the photo. Our sly sleuths here at Gotcha! strike again, this time catching powerhouse publicist Sasha Williams cozying up to A-list actor Mitch Morrison. Sasha, who’s known for mixing business with pleasure, is also Mitch’s new publicist. So does this mean it’s a wrap for her and Drake Lancaster? Apparently so, making it Drake’s second humiliating termination in recent weeks after he got booted from King Gary Rosen’s latest blockbuster production, On Bended Knee. What’s worse is that Mitch was hired to re-place Drake on the film. Ouch! Will Sasha and Mitch make it down the aisle? Will Z-listed Drake go back to waiting tables? Stay tuned, as we here at Gotcha! work to getcha all the latest scoop! Sasha leaned against the wall and slid to the floor. Tears streamed down her face. She looked down at the article again. A note from Drake was scribbled at the bottom. Of all the guys you could’ve replaced me with, you chose Mitch Morrison? And I had to find out through some trashy blog? I thought we were better than that. Guess I was wrong. Sasha balled the article up and threw it across the room. Her chest heaved with remorse. She sobbed for several minutes before grabbing her phone and dialing Drake again. The call went straight to voicemail. She hung up and sent him a text, apologizing profusely and asking him to please call her. Right when she hit send, a message came in from Nick. In a meeting and can’t talk, but I got a call from Drake saying he wants to sign with a new publicist, effective immediately. What’s going on? Sasha swallowed the bile that was creeping up her throat and struggled to steady her breathing. “This isn’t happening. This isn’t happening,” she said to herself over and over again. She closed Nick’s message without responding and sent Amanda a text, telling her she had an emergency and asking if she could come over ASAP. Amanda replied immediately. I’m on my way. * B&N * eXtasy Books

Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City.
Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. She discovers a life filled with culture, sophistication, and—with a little encouragement from her friends—a few blind dates. When one man in particular makes quick work of Amy’s heart, she risks losing herself completely in the unexpected escape, and as the summer comes to an end, Amy realizes too late that she must make an impossible decision: stay in this exciting new chapter of her life, or return to the life she left behind. But before she can choose, a crisis forces the two worlds together, and Amy must stare down a future where she could lose both sides of herself, and every dream she’s ever nurtured, in the beat of a heart.
Now, I am pretty vocal about my dislike to the first person point of view, and then when I miss the point of doing the proper research before agreeing to review a book I let myself down at times.
But Amy's emotion-filled continues strain of thoughts starts to make sense as it paints a demonstrative picture of her chaotic life after her husband and the father of her children walked out on them three years ago. This story was a challenge to me, I admit, and sometimes it is good to be challenged out of our comfort zones. There were parts that I really enjoyed, like Amy's kids and especially her daughter with her wit and son with his smarts. The banter was lively, and the emotions as Amy is first time faced with her ex-husband were genuinely true. The foodie part was delicious to read, who wouldn't want to spend a week in New York eating yourself through the city! And as an avid reader, the talk about books, and the classics were endearing. Now, the project Amy was doing to get the kids to read more was fascinating but it got way too much attention to my liking, even to the point of starting to sound like a filler and slowing the flow of the mid part of the story. Just cause the humor wasn't really lining with mine, does not mean that it wouldn't be funny for someone else. There were many lines and scenes I could see had the potential for laughs, and still entertaining for all of us, I am sure. The time Amy spends in New York, with the free makeover, and meeting new people, trying new things, new scenes for her, they were fun and light, including amusing situations and humorously awkward turns. The energy of those scenes is one of an overly strained and stressed out person finally letting it go, Amy was like college freshman after the finals week, ready to let it loose while feeling guilty of not studying - in Amy's case being with her kids - after that has come all they know. In the end, Amy's story turns into fairytale-like happiness, her worries and struggles being washed away with a chance of romance as well. For me, a three Spoon book is a good story, it is not one of my favorites, but that's okay, not every book can be that. Amy's story is filled with her love and passion for her kids, books, and food, and I appreciate all of that. I can see why this book has been so wildly popular, even if it just missed the bullseye with me. From heartbreak to happiness, Amy navigates her life spicing it up with humor, turning difficult situations to a learning experience, and daring to trust her heart again, even after all the bruises it has received, with the new self-confidence she found through the polishing makeover the magazine gave her. ~ Three Spoons
Everyone eventually breaks under torture.
It’s a truth elite solider and government agent Dorian Lindstrom, codename Ghost, knows firsthand. His body may have recovered from what was done to him in that Afghani prison six years ago, but his mind…not quite so much. He’s seeing dead people. Grace Brandt, government codename Wraith, knows her past can’t be forgiven. She has stayed “dead” for as long as she could, but now the forces she’s been fighting, the secrets slowly suffocating her, won’t stay hidden any longer. And the man she helped break—the man she's always loved—is the only one who can stop the danger threatening them all. When it comes to keeping the people he loves safe, including the one who thinks she’s not worthy of it, there is no danger—past, present or future—Dorian won’t battle. The Ghost will rise.
Wow. Just wow.
This story will stay in your mind, hunt your dreams, and make an imprint to your heart cause Dorian and Grace will take your breath away. The pain they have experienced shattered my heart. The loss of control, the constant distress, consequences of the past torment is unimaginable. Ghost still has the same vibe, the same brotherhood, the connection - if not stronger - between the military brothers, Linear Tactical, than in the previous books. But it is darker with the danger and malice that is done to the special force members, to the men of black ops so dark, they can't even see their own shadows. The story goes into those deep, dark corners of the human mind that is still mysterious to us. It has the palpable sense of utter despair, loss of control, unpredictability. But the story delivers on all accounts, granting mercy, forgiveness, and redemption when needed. Surely the story dances on the line of is it believable or not, could this have actually happened, kind of wishing the answer is no cause this book, the story hunted my mind, and I do not wish anyone would have to go through what these warriors have to endure. Their destiny came to my dreams, and that's a sign of a fabulous, intense, memorable suspense story. Ghost does take a different direction from the previous books in the series, it paints their army days as a more of painful reality to the LT men than the glorious past. It shows so clearly and tangible what a war can do to a person's mind without glorifying it in any way. Amazing, really, how the author tells the story of these raw, broken souls, who have seen the worse of humanity. The connection between (Grace aka) Ray and (Dorian aka) Ghost is marvelous, all around just one swoon-worthy, yet earnest and tangibly passionate moment after another. To the point that within its intensity it reminds me of the fourth Omega book, Leverage, from the first Janie Crouch series, the story between the pilot and the scientist. Not for a moment is there a doubt in my mind how Ghost feels about Ray and what he would be willing to do to keep her safe, as well as his brothers. He is a man of dignity, honor, loyalty, and he is the man for Grace. As I read the story I got to witness breathtakingly beautiful love story, heartfelt and ardent, as fierce as it is delicate, as tender as it is passionate, in a mids of raw, brutal mind games and lethal, savage violence. This story stands well on its own, but to get the depth of Dorian's connection to his military brothers, I highly recommend the whole series. Let your mind to be blown away - and challenged -with this powerful and potent romantic suspense story, a tale that I fell in love with. ~ Five Spoons

When Ginger says yes to a marriage of convenience to help keep Logan, the father of a special-needs child, in the country she figures it’ll also get her matchmaking grandmother off her back. But as inconvenient feelings develop for her new, handsome husband, she discovers he's also an undercover secret agent. When his mission ends, what will it mean for their marriage… and her heart?
Logan Stone pulled the ill-gotten invitation from the breast pocket of his sports jacket. One small fib and he would be through the doors and into the party for engaged couples. Then he could be on the lookout for Vito Hart, diamond smuggler. Vito had been working the week’s events here in Indigo Bay, hobnobbing with people like Logan, a wholesaler of loose diamonds. Little did Vito know that Logan had plans to put him behind bars before he could ruin any more happily ever afters with bad deals and violence.
Logan had been deep undercover and without agency resources for six long months while tracking Vito, edging closer and closer. And now, as a (fake) wholesaler for a (fake) international business, he was almost in. Almost had enough incriminating intel to put the man securely behind bars and stop one nice chunk of the illegal trade of conflict diamonds that supported violent rebel forces stirring up civil war and intertribal conflict in Africa. But three days. That was all Logan had left on his visa before it was game over for his cover and he was deported by the local officers of the law. They’d been tracking him ever since they’d found him with a soon-to-expire visa lurking around Becker’s visa and passport forgeries near the docks during one of their sting operations. Not his best day in the field and so much for plan B. Logan inhaled the mild South Carolina ocean breeze, letting it wash over him as he reminded himself who he was supposed to be—just a wholesaler wanting to get close to a diamond source, as well as potential new clients. He had his name tag, a small brochure, fake business cards and even a simple diamond engagement ring with a spiral Celtic knot design. All part of the shtick. All intended to get him closer to Vito. Bust him before the local officers ejected Logan from the country on Wednesday. The doors to the event were open, the music pouring outside. In line, engaged couples kissed and held hands, and Logan looked away, not wanting to be reminded of all he’d lost by being selfish so many years ago. He had a job to do today. Nothing more. He toyed with the invitation while the line slowly moved forward. Get close to Vito, gain his trust. That’s what he had to do tonight. The man knew what line of work he was in, though he acted as if he barely knew him. Logan felt Vito needed just one more small thing before he took him into his trusted inner circle. But what was that missing piece? Laughter from inside caused Logan to glance up. Vito was near the doors, his wife at his side. Logan had mentioned in passing that he was engaged, but he’d yet to show up with a woman on his arm. Was that the issue? If so, he was going to have to find a civilian, seeing as it was too risky to break his silence with HQ and ask for a female field agent to come play the part. There was a good reason he had gone silent—Vito was no dummy and likely had more than the one guy Logan had noticed sporadically keeping tabs on him. Which meant it was time to finally show up with a fiancée. Logan needed to regroup before he saw the smuggler again. Turning on his heel, he left the line, nearly bumping into a woman in a clingy green dress that brought out the spark in her matching eyes, the fiery highlights in her auburn hair. “Oh! I’m sorry,” she said. “My fault. Are you all right?” Her smile grew as she nodded. “Australian?” “That I am, mate.” He laid his accent on thick and her grin took on a hint of slyness. The sheila liked accents. And he liked her. She had the kind of curves and smile that had him taking a second look back as he made his way down to the beach. Hot, that’s what that woman was. If he hadn’t been on a mission he’d be trying to spend a little time with her. And since he was on mission, he should be doing the same, to use her to further his cover. But civilian covers were tricky. Risky. Logan walked down to the Atlantic, letting the sound of the crashing waves fill his mind. He was tired. Unenthusiastic about maintaining his cover, managing a million lies. He stared out at a blinking buoy marking a shoal, and rolled his shoulders. Maybe it was time for a new job. One with more toys, more excitement. Yeah, he had toys and occasionally even got to use them. And as for excitement? His work was either deadly boring or so exciting he nearly died. Literally. He needed something in between, like his agent friend Zach Forrester had been talking about—private security. That would be nice. Lots of toys and the kind of excitement that didn’t get him killed. Just about perfect. He also wouldn’t have to worry about his next mission taking him away from Annabelle Babkins, daughter of a fellow agent who’d been killed in the line of duty. Eighteen years old now, Annabelle had a room in an assisted living facility, but her only guardian and advocate was Logan. Frustration still stirring within him, he began walking back to the party. Wednesday—that’s when it would all fall apart. Three short days. He’d worked with tighter timelines and knew that when plans continued to fail like they had with this mission, something better was typically lining up for him. And if not, well, then he’d tag out and someone else would come in and try to get close. But in the meantime, Logan would go old-school and find a nice sheila to lure into a marriage of convenience to help get his visa extended so he didn’t get deported. Plan C, because seriously? Nobody at HQ seemed to have noticed that, due to the way Vito kept going dark and the case kept getting extended, Logan’s visa was now set to expire. That meant it was time for him to focus on looking out for number one—himself—and find a lovely woman to marry him.

From author Jeanette Lewis: Sweet Illusions
After escaping a cult, Eva Malone longs for the anonymity and peace of a small town. When she meets a local police officer, sparks fly. Eva keeps her past a secret, but Ben wants to know more about the mysterious woman capturing his heart. Will the secrets he uncovers lead to a happy ending or...heartbreak?
Eva nodded as she brushed gnats away from her face impatiently, wishing this was over. She didn’t want to remember details—the hunger, the pressing humidity, the barracks with the moldy blankets and ever-present odor of dirty diapers. The endless ceremonies with the fires and the singing, everyone swaying in unison, the trancelike look that never left her mother’s eyes. And Jessie. Even when they were young, his eyes were the opposite of trancelike—cold, calculating, greedy.
“Okay, so you come from kind of a strange place.” Ben grinned and nudged her with his shoulder. “That explains a lot.” She turned to him. “Like what?” “You work in a chocolate shop, but don’t eat it. You don’t like crowds and you’re scared of policemen. You read like a crazy woman, you don’t know how to swim …” He ticked off the items on his fingers, but his brown eyes were twinkling. “I am not afraid of policemen!” She nudged him back, careful not to break the hold of their hands. “Just you.” “What?” He gave her the puppy dog eyes. “I am a total and complete pushover.” “Uh-huh.” Ben stopped in the shade of an oak tree and pulled her toward him. She went willingly, stepping into his embrace. His arms around her waist were solid, warm, a buffer between her and the world. Eva let out a long sigh and leaned in to rest her head against his chest. For a long time, they stood without speaking, and the only sounds were the occasional chirping of a sandpiper and the muffled thrum of the ocean coming from behind the houses lining the avenue. She hadn’t told him everything, hadn’t even told him most things, but that felt okay for now. What she had told him made her heart feel lighter than it had in … forever. The cotton fabric of his shirt was soft under her cheek and still carried the smell of salt water and sunscreen. “I think you’re amazing,” he said softly into her hair. “I think you’re smart and brave and strong.” His hands slid to her hips, gently pulling her even closer, and the thrill of excitement she’d been aching to feel exploded through her, replacing the anxiety and embarrassment she’d carried all afternoon. The first touch of his lips was soft, like a whisper of a breeze, but it was enough to send waves of longing trembling through her, making her knees shake. Ben drew back ever so slightly, his lips hovering over hers, letting her decide if she wanted him to be closer. She did. Almost on their own, her hands moved up his back, and he groaned as her fingers followed the outline of his muscles under his thin shirt. His kisses became more demanding and she gasped, burning for his touch as she parted her lips to give him what he was seeking, trusting him fully.

From USA Today bestselling author Stacy Claflin: Sweet Reunion
Maggie’s determined to stay single, but her meddling aunt wants her married. When, despite her intentions, Maggie falls for the notorious bad boy Canyon, Aunt Lucille doesn't think he's good enough for her, so she vows to keep them apart. Will Maggie continue to open her heart to love despite the many obstacles, or will the single life prove to be her best option?
Magnolia Kendrick jumped from the booth and darted between the tables, avoiding waiters and waitresses. She didn’t slow until she reached the bathroom. Closing the stall door behind her, she leaned against the wall and took in a deep breath of heavily-sweetened air.
That had been close. Too close. Once her heart rate returned to normal, she exited the stall. An older lady shot her a glare. Probably because she hadn’t heard a flush. Maggie flashed her a quick smile and went to the mirror to fix her makeup, though it didn’t need it. She only needed another minute or two to pull herself together before rejoining Aunt Lucille—the reason she’d fled to the bathroom. Auntie had a good heart, bless her, but the woman couldn’t take a clue. Or a flat-out request. Maggie would just have to try again. What other option was there? She lived with her great-aunt, who had tried to set her up with practically every eligible bachelor in Indigo Bay. Now at Figaro’s, the restaurant owned by a distant cousin about half an hour from their town, Auntie was attempting another set-up. Lord have mercy. It was almost enough for Maggie to head back home to Georgia—to the one place she could never show her face again. Almost. Maggie wanted nothing to do with a relationship of any kind. That was part of the reason she’d moved to Indigo Bay. A fresh start in a town where people didn’t know her problems. She stood tall and practiced her smile. It was her best feature, unless she listened to the people who adored her too-thick and too-curly dark hair. Long as it was, it was a nightmare. But she hated the way she looked when it was shorter. The bathroom door flung open. “Maggie!” Maggie turned to find her cousin Savannah. It wasn’t unusual to find a relative at Figaro’s. “Hi, Savannah.” “Auntie said you might be in here.” Maggie put her makeup back in her purse. “Did she send you to find me?” “She said you ran off like a chicken with its head cut off.” Savannah raised an eyebrow, clearly wanting to know more. “Can’t a girl use the bathroom?” Maggie adjusted her skirt. “Is everything okay, darlin’?” It would be if Aunt Lucille would quit trying to set her up with every available bachelor within a twenty-mile radius of Indigo Bay. Savannah stepped closer and put a hand on Maggie’s arm. “Everyone worries about you, you know.” Maggie smiled as sugary sweet as she could. “I appreciate the concern, but I’m fine. Hey, Auntie wasn’t talking to anyone, was she?” Savannah fanned herself. “You mean that new server, Emilio?” Wonderful. Aunt Lucille was probably planning Maggie’s date with Emilio at that moment. “You don’t like him?” Savannah frowned. Maggie sighed. “I don’t even know him.” “I wouldn’t mind getting to know him. Did you see those eyes? Blue as a clear lake.” “Must’ve missed those. Take care, okay? Say hello to Auntie Charlotte for me.” “I will.” Savannah gave a little wave. “Tell me if you go out with Emilio. I want to hear all about it.” Maggie forced a smile. There would be no date. She’d managed to avoid all of Aunt Lucille’s attempts. She could do it again. Maybe the tickle in her throat would turn into something more if she was lucky. As her cousin headed for a stall, Maggie made her way out into the hallway. She’d far prefer to stay in the bathroom until lunch was over, but Auntie would just send more ladies after her until Maggie returned. Maggie was so busy thinking about what she would say that she bumped into someone. She looked up. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t—” Her gaze locked with a familiar but nearly-forgotten set of dark brown eyes that appeared as surprised to see her as she was to see them. Maggie’s heart skipped a beat, then her pulse drummed through her body. Her cheeks warmed, heat spreading across her face. Canyon Leblanc. He still had the same effect on her he’d had so many years earlier, despite the fact that she’d nearly forgotten about him. Not because she’d wanted to, but because life had taken them their separate ways and they’d lost touch. He was just as gorgeous as ever, if not more so. Tan, neatly dressed. His dark hair was longer than it had been so many years before—and it suited him. A waitress rushed by, bumping Maggie and nearly throwing her against her old friend. He still wore the same aftershave. A wave of first-love emotions shoved their way to the surface. Feelings that had overwhelmed her younger self but she’d never allowed herself to act upon. Instead, she’d pined for him. Then he’d exited from her life. Now things had changed so much. Too much. No doubt about it—he was definitely more attractive now. He’d grown out of his boyish good looks and had matured into a ruggedly handsome man. His deep brown eyes sent a shiver to her very core. Maggie took a step back so she couldn’t smell him. So she could think straight. She didn’t have the time to get distracted by a handsome face—especially not the one in front of her. They’d been staring at each other for too long. Someone needed to say something. Maggie cleared her throat. “Canyon?” He stared at her, his expression practically unreadable. “Maggie.” She struggled to find words, so she cleared her throat again just to give herself another moment to think of something to say. “I didn’t realize you were back in town. Just a pit stop?” He shook his head. “Nope. I’m back for good. Here for a job interview, in fact.” “You are? I’ll put in a good word. My cousin owns the restaurant.” “Really?” Canyon arched a brow. Something about that simple act took her breath away. She needed to get away, and quick. Preferably before Auntie saw him and tried to set up a date. Maggie forced a smile. “I’d love to catch up sometime. I’m staying at Aunt Lucille’s. Pop in and say hi when you get a chance. We can have some tea or walk the beach like we used to.” Why had she just said that? The last thing she needed was him surprising her for a visit, especially at home. Auntie would want to set them up. Awkward. He ran his fingers through his hair. “Okay. It’d be real nice to catch up. I’d better get going. Interview in a few minutes.” Maggie nodded. “Right. Good luck.” Canyon headed down the hallway toward the offices. She watched until he was out of sight then headed back to the booth where Aunt Lucille was nearly done with her meal. At least she was alone. Maggie had grown tired of thinking up excuses to avoid dates with the men her aunt constantly tried to set her up with. “What took you so long, Maggie?” Aunt Lucille tugged on her perfectly-styled blonde hair and waited for a reply. Maggie slid back to her spot. “I kept running into people. You didn’t have to send Savannah after me.” Aunt Lucille dabbed her mouth with a napkin. “You’d been in there so long.” She hadn’t, but rather than argue, Maggie took a big bite of her salmon. “Emilio is free this Saturday afternoon.” Maggie nearly choked on her fish. “Auntie, I appreciate your concern but—” “But nothing. You aren’t getting any younger and you need to get your mind off the past. Isn’t that why you came to stay with me?” “I’m twenty-four. There’s plenty of time to figure out what to do with my life.” Aunt Lucille tilted her head and sighed. “Young people these days. You can marry rich and not have to worry about a career. In my day, ladies went to college to get their MRS degree.” Maggie shoved a piece of broccoli into her mouth before she said something that would start an argument. Auntie got a dreamy look on her face, then started talking about her late husband and their courting days. It may as well have been a hundred years ago, as far removed as it was from Maggie’s situation. She fought back tears that threatened. Why couldn’t her aunt realize how painful all this was? Dating wasn’t going to solve Maggie’s problems. Getting engaged again certainly wouldn’t. Maggie was done with men, period. She couldn’t take any more heartbreak. Once she figured out what she wanted to do with her life, she could focus on that. But that was the problem. Nothing made her happy. She couldn’t escape the pain of her past no matter how hard she tried.

From USA Today bestselling author Melissa McClone: Sweet Holiday Wishes
Saving his marriage is at the top of Mitch's Christmas list. Will a romantic holiday vacation be his and Lizzy's second chance at a happily ever after or will it lead to a final goodbye?
“You cannot kidnap Lizzy, dude. That would be a huge mistake. Not to mention illegal.”
“What are you talking about, Dare?” U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Mitchell, aka Mitch, Hamilton sat in his car across the street from an apartment building. He appreciated his team leader Sergeant Darragh O’Rourke’s early morning phone call, but the guy had it all wrong. “I’m surprising my wife with a trip to Indigo Bay for Christmas,” Mitch explained. “That’s not kidnapping.” “It is if she doesn’t want to go.” “She’ll want to go.” The words, however, rang hollow. Once upon a time, Mitch would have been certain Lizzy would say yes to a surprise getaway on the South Carolina coast. Now, not so much. He hated how the truth gnawed at him. Rangers lead the way! Mitch hoped he got the chance. “What’s your plan B if she says no?” Dare asked. Plan B? Mitch had spent weeks figuring out how to get his wife back after she left him in October. She’d said she needed someone to take care of her for once. He thought he was doing that already. He dragged a hand over his tired face. “Uh…” “This is too important. You need a backup plan.” The words flew from Dare’s mouth like artillery fire. “I had one when I wanted Jenny to give me another chance. Didn’t need it, but it was worth renting that Bigfoot costume just in case.” Dare and Jenny Hanford, a bestselling thriller author, had become an official couple in September while Dare was recovering from serious injuries after a helicopter crash. The two hadn’t been together long, but they seemed perfect for each other. Mitch had thought the same thing about him and Lizzy when he married her three years ago. “I don’t need a backup plan.” He glanced at Lizzy’s empty parking space. Her overnight shift as a registered nurse had ended nearly an hour ago. Where was she? “Lizzy has wanted to go to Indigo Bay since we met. She won’t say no.” “If you say so.” Dare’s uncertain tone matched the way Mitch felt. “I do. My bag is in the truck. The gas tank’s full.” Mitch wanted to sound confident. His guys counted on him to lead. He needed to appear strong and capable. And he was those things when it came to him being a Ranger. He’d faced terrorists and insurgents while deployed with his platoon from Fort Benning. He’d been ambushed, caught in firefights, and battled for his life. But waiting for his wife was taking his nerves to an all-time high. He missed Lizzy. He wanted her back in their house and in their bed. “You’ve got this.” Dare’s serious tone suggested the younger sergeant understood what was at stake. “Remember, this vacation is about Lizzy. Show her how much she means to you. Make sure she doesn’t feel taken for granted.” Lizzy had told Mitch she’d felt like nothing more than the person who took care of the house and his sexual needs. He didn’t understand because he thought their marriage was perfect. “I’ll do whatever it takes.” Failure wasn’t an option. He’d escaped from impossible situations before. Reconciling with Lizzy should be easier than getting himself and his guys home in one piece. She was his family. The most important person in his life. Maybe he shouldn’t have walked out of that stupid marriage counselor’s office in June, but what else could he do when Lizzy was blaming him for nonexistent problems? He hadn’t done anything wrong. “Have fun wooing your wife. She won’t know what hit her.” Sincerity filled Dare’s voice. “Call if you need me. I’ve got your six.” “Right back at you. Enjoy the holidays.” “The gifts are packed, and the engagement ring is in my pocket.” Dare sounded like he was smiling. Given he was spending the holidays in Berry Lake, Washington with Jenny and a recently adopted kitten, he was probably grinning from ear to ear. “Have a Merry Christmas.” Mitch tucked his phone into his back pocket. The silence in the truck’s cab pressed down on him. A marriage takes two people to succeed. I can’t keep holding everything together any longer. I want a divorce. Remembering Lizzy’s words made his shoulders sag as if he were wearing body armor and a seventy-pound pack. Divorce wasn’t the solution. Mitch loved Lizzy. He needed her. No one had ever loved him like she did. As soon as they arrived in Indigo Bay, he would show her their marriage was fine and they belonged together.

Vivi's Leading Man
Durango Street Theatre Book 1 by Emily Mims Genre: Contemporary Romance
A year after their divorce, Vivi and Miguel are forced to work together to save the Durango Street Theatre, and learn they might really love each other after all.
EXES AND OHS The marriage was one of convenience. She had status and he had money. But... there was something there, and both of them felt it. After three years of him working long hours and her spending too much time at the Durango Street Theatre, Miguel Abonce and Vivienne Heiser called it quits. One year later, they are forced to work together to save or sell the theater. In the process they discover things they never knew about each other and they learn there's more between them than burning up the sheets. They might really love each other after all. He unlocked his car and was about to get in when Vivienne hot-footed it across the street. “Fancy meeting you here,” she said dryly as she beeped her car open. “Imagine that. Did you get finished saying shitty things about me to Josh and decide to go home?” “No, I could have gone on a lot longer than I did. Too bad you didn’t stay for a little more. I really got going after you walked away.” “I heard enough, believe me. But you left out some things, didn’t you? Like the fact that you jumped at the chance to marry me and continue to enjoy the lifestyle you couldn’t pay for any more.” Vivienne shrugged. “It was the least you could do. Your income doubled the first year we were married, thanks to all the business you picked up from Daddy’s old friends.” “Maybe it was. But you don’t have to make it sound like I took advantage of you, because I sure as shit didn’t. You got a hell of a nice lifestyle every damned day of the three years we were married.” He stepped closer to her in the darkness. “And you got something else out of it, too. You got some great sex out of it. The best sex of your life. You said so more than once.” “Ah, yes. All that empty, meaningless sex we used to have.” She took a step closer to him. “Thing is, you liked it too.” She poked a finger in his chest. “You liked it a hell of a lot better than what those coy little Latina girls ever delivered. You said so more than once. So don’t act like the great sex was all for me. You liked it just as much as I did.” “Yeah, I did. I liked it a lot. I’d still like it, come to think of it.” He slid his arms around her and pulled her toward him. “Let’s see if we still like it as much as we used to.” Slowly he drew her closer, giving her plenty of time to pull away from him if that was what she wanted. Instead she moved toward him, meeting him halfway. With no real height difference between them, their lips met straight-on as they always had. Their kiss was gentle at first, touching and exploring. Miguel breathed in the familiar coconut and lemon of her hair as he wrapped his arm around her waist. He’d missed that smell, and her soft hair draped on the pillow just inches from his nose. He felt her hands rise to cup his face between her palms as she deepened the kiss they shared, her tongue snaking into his mouth and ensnaring his in a sensuous duel. She’d kissed him like that often, cradling his face in her hands as she explored his eyes and his nose and his cheeks with butterfly kisses. He’d missed those kisses when she left him. His breath hitched in his throat as his cock swelled in his jeans. He felt her nipples pucker under the loose T-shirt and pictured her naked breasts, high and firm and oh so responsive to his touch. He ran his hand down her rounded ass, tight and shapely with the muscles of a dancer and pictured it poking up in the air, pink from a sexy spanking and waiting for him to shove his cock inside of her warmth. He tangled his legs with hers and imagined them wrapped tightly around his waist as he thrust himself into her and she came and came and came in his arms. He sneaked his tongue into her mouth and remembered the way her lips and tongue had closed around his cock, milking him until he gave it up. Damn, he’d hoped the attraction had faded in the months since their divorce. It hadn’t worked that way. If anything, his desire for her was stronger than ever. He should pull away. Instead, he held her even closer while he plundered her sweetness. They clung together for long moments, oblivious to the fact that they were kissing in a public parking lot in full view of whomever chose to look. Finally he pulled away and looked longingly into her eyes, dimly lit by the streetlights and a waxing moon in the night sky. “Well,” he murmured softly as he took in her swollen lips and her glazed expression. “Was it as good as it used to be?” His question seemed to snap her out of her trance. “Yes, it was. It’s as good as I remember it. In fact, it was the best empty, meaningless kiss I’ve ever had.” Her expression was snarky and sad at the same time. “Too bad it couldn’t have meant more.” She got into the Beamer and in typical Vivienne fashion pulled out of the parking lot going a little too fast. He watched her go, his fingers on the lips she’d kissed so passionately. It stung more than he cared to admit, that she found the kisses and lovemaking he missed so badly these days empty and meaningless. It had never felt empty or meaningless to him.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joanna Wylde comes a new story in her Reapers MC series…
Peaches Taylor spent the last seven years slinging drinks and dodging drunks at the Starkwood Saloon. Some might call it a dead end job, but to her it was an investment—another six months, and she’d have enough money to buy the place. Life would've been perfect if Eli hadn’t come home. Eli King is ready to settle down. He stood by his brothers when they needed him, paying the price for their freedom with his own. Now it’s time to claim his reward—the Starkwood Saloon. He’s got the cash to buy the bar, the skills to run it, and just one person standing between him and his dream: Peaches Taylor. She’s been driving him crazy since they were kids, and not in the good way. When she was six, she shoved a spider down his pants. When he was ten, he locked her in a closet overnight. Then she hot-wired his car at seventeen, and things got ugly… They’re adults now, and the Starkwood isn’t a toy to fight over—it’s the hill they’ll die on. No prisoners. No compromises. No mercy. Peaches Taylor and Eli King are going to war. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.** “Kinda desperate, coming here on your night off,” Eli said as I walked up to the bar. “Usually, girls just text me when they want a booty call.” His lips quirked up in a smirk. “Go to hell,” I replied absently. Where was Gus? The place was mostly empty, just a few of the Reapers hanging out in one of the corner booths. Megan was wiping down tables, and Eli was the only one behind the bar. I frowned, boosting myself up onto one of the bar stools. “Oh, and can I have a rum and Coke?” Eli leaned forward on his elbows. “Too late. I already did last call for the night.” “It’s hardly past eleven,” I said, surprised. “Slow night.” He shrugged. “Decided to close early.” “I’ve been trying to convince Gus that we should close earlier when it’s like this for the last three years.” Eli’s mouth quirked up, radiating smugness. “Gus isn’t in charge anymore.” My stomach dropped. “Does that mean you signed the papers today? I thought they weren’t ready yet.” Eli raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t give me a direct answer. Instead, he grabbed a couple of shot glasses and set them out between us. Then he grabbed a bottle of Crown Royal from the shelf behind the bar. “Eli, did you sign the papers?” I asked again, feeling nervous. He filled the shot glasses. This was starting to look like a celebration, which didn’t make sense. They weren’t supposed to finalize things until next week. “Got them today,” he said, and I heard the triumph in his voice. That fucking bastard… It wasn’t enough for him to take the bar from me. Nope. Now, he wanted me to celebrate with him. This was about him winning. Again. “Already looked everything over. We’ll sign them tomorrow morning at the title company. Grab your drink, Peaches. It’s time for us to make a new start.” Eli caught my eye, raising his glass in a toast. I briefly considered throwing the shot in his face because I’d be damned if I would concede defeat. If the papers hadn’t been signed yet, I still had a chance to make my offer. Eli didn’t need to know that, though. So, I gave him a strained smile and forced myself to give his glass a token tap. Together, we downed the shots. He reached for the bottle and started pouring again. “Are you trying to get me drunk?” I asked, wondering if he had a deeper game. “Because I stole bottles of this shit all the time in high school. It’ll take more than two shots.” “Not true,” he said. “You always went for the crappy vodka. Easier to water down. Cover the crime.” He had me. I’d totally done that. TANGLED UP IN YOU
Author: Samantha Chase Series: Shaughnessy Brothers Release Date: April 30, 2019
He was only five feet from the door when Teagan stepped in front of him. Bobby stopped short so he wouldn’t slam into her. “Oh no. You are not doing this again.” “Excuse me?” With her arms crossed over her chest, she nodded. “This running away crap? I’m done with that.” He still wasn’t sure he understood what she was getting at, and she must have figured that out. “First time we met? You walked away after a plate almost slipped out of your hands.” “Teagan…” “Then you pretty much sprinted out of here last week after you hurt your shoulder.” “I had ice cream first.” She gave him a sour look. “And you didn’t come back like you said you would.” She stepped in close to him. “I prefer it when people honor their word.” Now he was getting a little annoyed. “I think if Anna hadn’t asked you to come today, I’d probably never have seen you again. I mean, sure, maybe at some Shaughnessy family event years from now, but other than that, you would have done whatever you could to avoid me. Except thanks to Anna, you did come back, and you’ve played with Lucas and by now he’s got some sort of hero-worship thing going on with you. So if you think I’m going to just let you pull another disappearing act, you’re crazy!” She was doing her best to keep her voice down, but there was no mistaking how angry she was. Now what was he supposed to do? Or say? Teagan must have taken his silence for something else because she let out a huff of annoyance and stepped aside, motioning toward the door. “Fine. Whatever. Just go.” He heard her annoyance, but he saw her disappointment. And that got to him more than anything else. Instead of walking out the door, he advanced on her. Her eyes went wide and she took a step back, even as he took another toward her. “You’re wrong,” he said, his voice low and gruff. “I did want to see you again. Since the day we met, I’ve wanted to see you again. Even after I stormed off like a jackass, all I could think about was how good it would be to see you again.” Teagan took two steps back and hit the wall. Bobby moved in until they were toe-to-toe. “I don’t like asking anyone for help or needing help, but the fact that I kept embarrassing myself in front of you? It was almost more than I could stand.” “Bobby, you had nothing to be embarrassed about. I totally understand what you’re dealing with,” she argued. But he shook his head. “You don’t. You can’t,” he countered. “I’m just a man, Teagan, and I can’t help but have a little pride. I don’t like looking weak. I don’t like being weak. If we had met at any other time—” “But we didn’t,” she whispered. Yeah, it was crazy to wish for something he couldn’t have. In a perfect world, he wouldn’t have gotten shot. In a perfect world, he would have been confident enough to ask her out. And in a perfect world, he’d have every right to close the distance between them and kiss her. She swallowed hard, her big blue eyes never blinking, and watched him as if waiting for…something. “What is it you want from me, Teagan? You want me to apologize for walking away? For not coming back? What? Tell me what it is you’d like me to do.” He hoped and prayed she wanted the same thing he did. “I want you to stop running. You have nothing to fear from me,” she said, brutal in her frankness. “I don’t care that you’re still recovering. I don’t care that you may need help from time to time. But I expect honesty from my friends, Bobby. Always.” Friends. The kiss of death. Dammit. So many retorts were on the tip of his tongue, yet he couldn’t speak. Friends? So the attraction he’d been feeling was all one-sided? For a man who never had to put much effort into getting a woman, this was like being hit in the face with the ball all over again. “Friends,” he finally said. She nodded. “It’s all I can offer you.” Apparently, he was that transparent. “My main priority is Lucas, and I’m not looking to get involved with anyone. Especially someone who…” She paused and looked down at the floor. “Someone who what?” he prompted, feeling more than a little annoyed now. After a moment, she looked back up at him. “Someone with a history of being a serial dater,” she said defiantly. “If I were single, no kids, it would be one thing, but I have my son to worry about. I don’t get involved in casual relationships. I can’t. As it is, I was scared even to let you come and watch him today, because other than my dad, Lucas hasn’t had any other male role models. Now that I see how quickly he bonded with you, I regret my selfishness.” “How the hell were you selfish?” “I was desperate to have a day to myself!” she cried. “To get my nails done and my hair cut and do all the things I haven’t had the time to do in forever. And now I’m going to be hearing all about you for who knows how long!” Now he was thoroughly confused. “So now I’m not good enough even to have around as a friend?” he asked incredulously. “That’s not what I’m saying, Bobby. I’m saying…I don’t want to confuse Lucas. I don’t want him getting attached to someone who has no interest in sticking around.” Again the questions about Lucas’s father came to mind, but he was too wrapped up in all the ways Teagan was insulting him right now to ask. He leaned in close. “You don’t know anything about me.” He meant to sound menacing, and he felt like he pulled it off. “I know enough. People talk,” she replied confidently. “People? What people?” “Quinn,” she said with a smug smile. “He told me all about you.” If he thought he was angry before, it was nothing compared to how he felt right now. How dare his brother-in-law say anything derogatory about him! That crap was supposed to be all ancient history. “You know my history with your cousin,” he countered. “Of course he was going to talk trash about me. And why would you even ask him? Why not just come to me if you wanted to know something?” “Because you were usually walking away. When was I supposed to ask you anything?” Okay. She had a point. But still… This wasn’t getting them anywhere. He wasn’t doing himself any favors with the way he was acting right now, and thanks to Quinn, she already had a bad opinion of him, one that he would have to fight. Stepping away from her, he raked a hand through his hair and let out a weary sigh. Maybe it was time to just let this go. His life was total crap right now, and she wasn’t looking to get involved with anyone, so why was he fighting this? When he faced her again, he had his answer. Because she was beautiful. Because she challenged him. Because she had the potential to break his heart. In a perfect world, all the obstacles would be removed. But this wasn’t a perfect world and he was an imperfect man. And because he had nothing left to lose, he leaned in and kissed her.
Sweet Home Louisiana, an all-new sexy, small town, second chance rom com from
New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas, is available now!
Thanks to a drawn-up-while-drinking-moonshine partnership agreement, Madison Allain has to spend thirty days back on the bayou before she can sell her part of the family business.
And if the heat and humidity and freaking alligators of Louisiana aren’t enough to agitate the cool and in-control California girl, then Owen Landry, the equally hot guy who stole her heart twelve years ago, will sure do the trick. Owen just has to remember three simple-ish rules: Do not fight with her. Do not fight *over* her. Do *not* kiss her. He can do this. He’s charming and friendly for a living after all. But this is Maddie. The only woman to ever shake up this laid-back bayou boy. Besides, she’s not staying. No way. These people and this town make her crazy. She doesn’t want to be crazy. She definitely does *not* want to own a swamp boat tour company. She just wants to paint. In her quiet, beautiful, alligators-not-allowed, *air-conditioned* art studio. As for that hot bayou boy? Well, he’s…amazing. But he belongs here in the South. And she definitely doesn’t. Even if her heart stays behind when she leaves.
Owen felt his mouth curve into a grin as he heard the familiar clap, clap, clap behind him.
That was one of his favorite sounds—high heels on the wooden dock of the Boys of the Bayou swamp boat tour company. He took his time turning and once he did, he started at the shoes. They were black and showed off bright red toenails. The straps wrapped sexily around trim ankles and led the eye right up to smooth, toned calves. The heels matched the black polka dots on the white skirt that thankfully didn’t start until mid-thigh, and showed off more tanned skin. He straightened from his kneeling position in one of the boats as his eyes kept moving up past the skirt to the bright red belt that accentuated a narrow waist and then to the silky black tank that molded to a pair of perfect breasts. He was fully anticipating her lips being bright red to go with that belt and her toenail polish. God, he loved red lipstick. And high heels. In any color. But before he could get to those lips, she used them, to say, “Oh, dammit, it’s you.” Owen’s gaze bypassed her mouth to fly to her eyes. Because he’d know that voice anywhere. Madison Allain was home. A day early. Not that an extra day would have helped him prepare. He’d been thinking about her visit for a week and was still as wound tight about it as he’d been when Sawyer, his business partner and cousin, had told him that she was coming home. For a month. Owen stood just watching her, fighting back all of the first words that he was tempted to say. Like, “Damn, you’re even more gorgeous than the last time I saw you.” Or, “I haven’t put anyone in the hospital lately.” Or, “I’ve missed you so fucking much.” Just for instance. She blew out a breath and now he did focus on her lips. Yep, red. Terrific. That wasn’t going to make ignoring them any easier. “I was hoping you were Sawyer,” she said, propping a hand on her hip. Owen tossed the wrench he held into the toolbox at his feet. “Nope. Sorry.” So she wasn’t happy to see him. Big shocker. He hadn’t always been the perfect Southern gentleman around Maddie, that was for sure. He wiped his hands on his jeans. Okay, he was supposed to be niceto her. That meant treating her like she was one of the tourists who frequented this dock. Polite. Friendly, but not I’ve-known-you-my-whole-life-and-kissed-you-a-whole-bunch friendly. Just mildly hey-how’s-it-goin’ friendly. So that she didn’t sell off her portion of the business that not only fed him and his other two partners, but that was their pride and joy. And the only thing he was really good at. Nice. Polite. A little friendly—but not too much. He could do that. Annoyed that within thirty seconds of seeing her again he was already thinking about kissing her, he kicked the toolbox, trying to slide it into the nook under the bow of the boat. Of course, he kicked it too hard and it tipped, spilling tools over the floor of the boat with loud clangs of metal against metal. He shoved a hand through his hair. That was typical. Everything was an overreaction when it came to how he acted around Maddie. Even the little stuff. Certainly the big stuff. Always had been. “Sawyer’s over at Ellie’s.” Owen pulled himself up out of the boat and onto the dock. That took him about two feet closer to her and he instantly became aware that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. Very aware as Maddie’s eyes tracked over his shoulders, chest and abs. The heat that arrowed through him was unwelcome. Though not unexpected. There had always been this crazy chemistry between them. Key word: crazy.
